《The Assassins of Skyrim |Skyrim Fanfiction|》Chapter 9 Rapier

I watched as Kharjo walked calmly out of the room. I wanted to follow him but my mind was so full of everything Arngeir had taught Archer and I that I wasn't sure I would make much sense. I lashed my tail and almost cleared a whole table onto the floor. Archer and Shay were talking about something. Archer mentioned Templars a couple of times. I didn't know what that meant. Finally, I decided that finding Kharjo would be better than standing around until Archer knew when we were going.
I wandered through the halls, doing my best to ignore the Graybeards watching me as I passed them. I reached the main hall in time to see the tip of a gray tail disappear out the closing door. Little snowflakes flew through the door before it closed all the way. I quickly looked around to make sure Arngeir wasn't going to come and start yammering at me before I opened the door and stepped out, I held the door open so Vigilant could follow me.
Kharjo was sitting on a large rock at the edge of the path. I walked over and sat down next to him on the cold stone, pulling my hood up to protect my ears. Kharjo looked at me and smiled, he had his own hood up. "Tired of being inside?"
I sighed and swung my legs over the edge of the boulder. "Yes. I can't stand the silence in there. I like fire, but when it's the only sound, it gets tiresome."
"Kharjo agrees."
I suddenly had an idea. "Kharjo?"
"What is it Rapier?" Kharjo tipped his head at me.
"I want you to say 'I' any time you want to say your name or Khajiit. Okay?"
"I?" Kharjo looked confused. "Why?"

"Because it makes you easier to understand," I said. "You can try it and I'll let you know when you're going back to saying Khajiit and Kharjo."
Kharjo hesitated. "That sounds good. What did the Graybeard want with you and Archer?"
"He taught us how to use our power," I said hesitantly. "And he told us that we need to find The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller before they will teach us the last part of it."
"Could you demonstrate?"
I grinned. Much as I found Arngeir's lesson boring, not to mention strange, there was a certain thrill I felt when I used the shouts. I focused on the words of Unrelenting Force. "FUS! RO!" A sound like a boulder rolling down the mountain came, followed by a blue mushroom shape that pushed all of the snow away before it dissipated in the air.
Kharjo stared at the place it had been. "That was..." he trailed off.
I grinned and wished I could do it again. Or at least do Whirlwind Sprint right away. Unfortunately I needed to wait a minute before I was able to do either one again. "It makes me feel powerful. Like I can do anything."
Kharjo looked like he was about to say something, but Vigilant barked and pointed his nose toward High Hrothgar. I looked over and saw Archer helping Shay out the door. I got up and ran over. "What are you doing? You might cause more damage!"
Shay shook his head. "No, he won't. This has happened to me before... I have a slightly higher immunity to it than most others."
I frowned at him but didn't argue. I turned to the path and whistled. Instantly Vigilant nudged my leg. I looked down at him. "You aren't the one I was calling and you know it." Vigilant whined and sat on my foot. "Get off my foot you moose!" I pushed him off and he gave me his doggy smile. I huffed and looked back down the path. Shadowmere was standing a hundred yards away. I whistled again but Shadowmere reared back and whinnied.

"What's up with her?" Kharjo asked, getting up from his place on the rock and coming to stand at my side.
"We had a bad experience here," I nodded to Shadowmere. "Unless I personally lead her up here that's all the further she'll come."
"So we walk to her?" Archer asked.
I shook my head. "No. Shay, I know you feel fine but I'm not going to let you walk all the way to Shadowmere."
Shay grumbled something as I jogged through the deep snow to Shadowmere. I vaulted onto her back and nudged her toward High Hrothgar. "They're not going to kill you Shadow, I promise." Shadowmere seemed to relax a bit after I said that and trotted willingly toward my little group. Vigilant panted happily when he saw me and barked.
I got off and gestured to Shay. "Up you go."
Shay mumbled something under his breath, but he climbed into the saddle without another word.
