"No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another."
—Charles Dickens
~~~~~
You are the perfect living being anyone could ask for.
Muichirou sat, staring in the window beside him in a daze. He watched the clouds moved in its own pace. He was so into it that he got lost track of time.
"Thank you for dropping by Y/N-san!"
Muichirou immediately snapped his attention from his cloud-gazing session. He looked at you, who was smiling a warm smile that sets his heart ablaze. A blush tinted his cheeks as he watched you converse with a friend by the door of his classroom.
"Thank you as well! I'll be leaving."
(Y/N) (L/N). One of the three beauties of Kimetsu Academy. (Y/N) is from the class beside Muichirou's. He had it rough since he can't see her most of the time. But, he makes sure to come to school early since (Y/N) is in their classroom in the morning because of her close friend, Aoi. (Y/N) is also a member of the student council, making her more well-known in school. Every boy thinks (Y/N) is the perfect girlfriend material and maybe, wife material. She's very kind to her peers and to everyone around her. Muichirou can only dream he may claim (Y/N) as his girlfriend.
Muichirou watched with solemn expression as you depart his classroom. I'll see her again.
Muichirou looked down at his short quiz results. The big "F" in the corner is making his mood drop. It seems like he has to think of a way to improve his grades soon.
What other way is better than studying?
Muichirou found himself sitting in the library with loads of past seatwork and a few books stack upon each other. A groan slipped past his lips. It was still early before sunset, so Muichirou can spend the rest of the afternoon understanding the past and present lessons.
The sound of paper flipping and shuffling distracted Muichirou from writing down the solution. He looked up and saw you sorting some papers in the desk across him. His cheeks heat up and his heart started to thump against his chest. She's here.
He sensed he should help you. It looks like you're having trouble with it. Plus, his studying is pretty much a compromise for the betterment of his grades. He can always stop and continue back in his bedroom.
"Do you need help with that?" asked Muichirou. He was so sure he stopped himself from approaching the working you. You look so cute with that serious expression on your face.
You looked up, seeing a familiar person. You couldn't place where you had seen him. But, he's so familiar that you're so sure you're seeing his face every day.
Then, it clicked to you who it was. You beamed at him, "Tokitou-san..." You saw his index finger pointing at the paperworks. An awkward laugh came out of you as you stiffly scratched your cheek. You felt embarrassed.
"I think I can manage myself," you told Muichirou.
Muichirou sighed. He sat next to you. Confused, you turned your head. Muichirou insisted, "I think you can't."
"Well, if you insist."
You gave him instructions. He started working on sorting the papers right away. He was doing pretty good and it brought relief to your side. Sorting the Student Council documents in alphabetical order is such a pain in the ass. Sadly, no one is available, so you have to do this all by yourself.
You looked over to see Muichirou working with a determined look in his face. A smile graced your face.
Feeling your stare, Muichirou stopped from sorting and looked at you. His cheeks heat up and his heart started to skip. He stuttered, "I-Is something wrong?"
"Nothing! Nothing at all!"
You went back to sorting with a cheerful expression on your face. Muichirou can't help but to stop and stare for a moment to adore your face. Cute.
You closed the door of the Student Council room. You turned to see Muichirou patiently waiting for you. He already had his bag in one hand and yours in another. He offered help after all.
You sincerely said, "Thank you very much for your help today."
Muichirou looked away, seeming to take an interest to the window. He said, "It's nothing."
"How about I help you in my own way?"
Muichirou looked back at you with a confused look. He protested, "You don't have to. It's my choice."
You put your index finger up. You said, "You were studying earlier. Perhaps you need some tutor?"
Muichirou's face flushed in embarassment. You laughed at his bashfulness. "Don't worry. I was thinking of finding some study partner."
You looked up at him with a smile. You told him, "Tomorrow at the library after school."
You walked away, waving your hand in farewell.
Muichirou put hand over his chest to calm his speeding heart. A sigh escaped his lips before a happy expression took over. He finally has a reason to be close to you! He couldn't imagine grabbing an opportunity like that just by helping you. He thanked his conscience for giving him a chance to be known by you.
His phone buzzed in his pocket. He checked and saw Yuichirou calling him.
"Hello—"
"DON'T JUST 'HELLO' ME! DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW MANY MISSED CALLS YOU HAVE?"
"You're so noisy, Nii-chan."
* * *
Ever since that fateful day, you and Muichirou had been meeting at the library after school. It doesn't matter if it's for a study session or leisure time. After a few study sessions, the two of you just came to the library after school because of bonding.
Muichirou is glad he is able to spend time with you. He got to know you better and fell for you deeper. He had more reasons why he liked the first place. Yuichirou pulled himself out of Muichirou's way to your heart. He supported his twin brother and was silently rooting for him despite his numerous scoldings about going home early.
"I'll just get a book."
Your voice snapped Muichirou from his thoughts. He noticed there are almost no people left in the library. The sky gave off the usual orange hue in sunsets. Muichirou reminded himself to go home soon.
"Where is she?" You've been gone for quite a long time now. It was quite unusual for you since you always get back just as fast when you left.
He stood up and started to look for you. In every aisle and in every corner of the library.
Just right when he turned to see your figure falling to the ground, he saw the dozens of books falling in the same direction as you were.
"(Y/N)!"
You closed your eyes tight, expecting for the impact of the books, as you raise your arms to shield yourself. Though, it never came.
You felt someone hovering over you. Slowly, you opened your eyes, only for them to land on Muichirou's. Your eyes widen at the sight of Muichirou wincing face.
"Muichirou-kun..."
Muichirou kept his gaze on you. Your shocked face seemed to stay beautiful. He was flushed at the closeness of your body. He wished you couldn't see the redness in his cheeks. His teal eyes landed on your pink lips, parted from the shocked he brought.
Just like the day when he helped you, he can't control his body anymore as he moved closer to you and his lips found its way on yours.
His heart was beating wildly to the point he swore it was going to explode any moment now. He was taking a ginormous risk. This kiss might be the end of the friendship he worked so hard for.
When he pulled away, his cheeks were bright red and his eyes never met yours. You were still in shock at the sudden turn of events. You were dumbfounded and surprised at the same time. Plus, how should you react?!
You were so deep in your thoughts you didn't notice Muichirou standing up. You were scared he might leave you forever, so you grabned his wrist to stop him from leaving.
"I..."
Muichirou expected the accused words to strike his heart. But, he didn't predict the next words you said.
"...like you too."
After all, there was another reason why you always frequented his classroom.
