"Lanae wake yo' ass up," I heard my dad yell from outside of my bedroom door. I groaned and rolled over trying to get away from the noise, but he began banging on the door.

"Okay dad, I'm up," I shouted with my eyes closed.

"Hurry up and get ready, Nae. We goin' out for breakfast," he said before I heard his footsteps retreat.

I stretched my legs out and sat up inside of my bed. My body still felt tired even after hours of sleep, but I still found enough strength to get out of bed.

After an hour and thirty minutes, I was ready to leave. I grabbed my phone off of the charger and snapped a quick selfie.

I posted it on Instagram before I went through my notifications. I saw that I had some from YouTube letting me know that Spicy Management posted a new video of Clarence and Queen and that Lil Dicky posted a new song called Freaky Friday. Then, I noticed that Omari had texted me back, last night.

I couldn't stop myself from opening it because my curiosity was overwhelming me.

😩😍Watch... when I'm done wit' my business imma fuck you up cause you keep playin' games and shit. That shit gon' stop when I see you, keep fuckin' wit' me💯

I smacked my lips, he ain't gon' do shit. I left him on read and locked my screen. I wasn't about to worry about him right now, today my focus will be on spending time with my dad.

I walked out of my room and found my dad scrolling through his iPhone X. He didn't even know how to work it, but he wanted the newest phone that was in stores.

His eyes lifted up to me causing him to sigh dramatically, "Finally! Yo' ass got me out here stravin'... looking up food and shit."

I busted out laughing. "No you didn't," I said in between laughs, "I be doin' the same thing."

He shook his head before putting his phone inside of his coat pocket, "Ah damn shame, let's go."

"Okay," I said as we both made our way to the front door, "where are we about to go?"

"Shit, I don't know yet," he shrugged, "we'll figure it out when we get in the car."

I nodded my head before grabbing my coat and opening the door. As I stepped out into the hallway, I quickly put my coat on and zipped it up. My dad followed my actions and locked the door. Not long after we made our way to the elevator, my phone started ringing.

"No phones today," my dad said as I pulled out my phone.

"Daddy," I smacked my lips, "I can't answer my cousin's phone calls now?"

He laughed and pressed the down button that was on the wall, next to the elevator, "Go head.. I know y'all two can't go ah day wit' out talkin' to each other."

I laughed before answering my phone, "Hey girl."

"Hey boo, what you doin' today," Queen asked as the elevator doors opened.

"Well.... today I'm spendin' some time wit' my dad since I fell asleep on him yesterday. What you doin' today?"

We both stepped inside of the elevator before my dad pressed the floor one button.

Queen sighed dramatically, "Girl I'm not doin' ah damn thing. I was tryna chill wit' you, but you busy."

"Awww, it's okay Queen. Chill wit' Aunt Mo today," I suggested.

"Yeah, I am. We gon' watch all the 90's movies," she laughed.

"I know that's right," I said as we finally got onto the first floor, "but I'll call you later."

"Aight, love you."

"I love you too," I said before hanging up and stepped off of the elevator.

"Aight now, put that damn phone on vibrate or something," my dad said causing me to smack my lips, "don't be smackin' yo' gigantic ass lips at me."

I gasped before I began cracking up, "Dad, don't play me!"

He chuckled as people nearby gave us funny looks.

"Fuck y'all niggas lookin' at," he spat while eyeing everybody causing their eyes to quickly avert off of us, "but Nae you know yo' lips big as hell."

"I know," I agreed, "but whose fault is that?"

"Shittt," he dragged out, "two big lipped mothafuckas."

I shook my head, laughing, as we exited out of the building, "Dad.. you is off the hook."

He shrugged his shoulders before he pulled his keys out of his coat pocket and unlocked his car doors. Once we made it to his car, we quickly got in.

I fastened my seatbelt before I repeated my question from earlier, "Where we about to go?"

"Shit anywhere wit' food," my dad answered causing me to give him a straight face.

"What are you in ah mood for?"

"Everything. Pancakes, tacos, pizza, chicken, cereal, gyros, grits," he continued naming random foods causing me to sigh.

This is finna be a long day.....

After a few minutes of debating over restaurants we finally decided to get some Wing Stop. My dad ordered himself a 10 piece combo. He got the Atomic wings and fries, which was too hot for me. It literally burns your taste buds. I ordered myself a 10 piece combo as well, but I got Barbecue and Louisiana Rub wings along with some fries. We also ordered six bread rolls and two Sprites.

We just began eating inside of the building at one of the tables. I chewed on some of my sweet and salty fries as my dad picked up one of his atomic wings.

"Daddy, I don't see how you can eat 'em wings," I said with my face scrunched up.

"Nahhh. You just can't handle the heat," he said with a mouth full of food.

"Ew," I laughed before putting my fries into my mouth.

"So... you gon' tell me who had you sad as hell yesterday," he suddenly said causing my heartbeat to speed up.

"What makes you think it's ah person and not something?"

"Cause I'm not stupid, Nae," he uttered before taking a sip of his drink.

I sighed and shrugged my shoulders. I spoke as I grabbed one of the rolls, "It's complicated."

"Mm," my dad hummed before licking the sauce off of his fingers, "I think you just makin' it complicated."

I raised an eyebrow and slowly chewed the food in my mouth, "What makes you say that?"

"Cause I know who got my daughter in her feelings," he admitted taking me by surprise.

"In my feelings," I questioned, "I ain't in my feelings dad."

He shook his head with a smirk. He began eating another one of his hot wings.

When I realized he wasn't going to respond to my lie I huffed, "Okay... maybe I am in my feelings ah lil' bit, but I'm curious. Who do you think has me in ah bad mood?"

"Lucky. Or what you usually call him, Omari," he answered so casually.

How does he know, I asked myself before clearing my throat.

"I'm not gon' lie and say that what you said isn't true because it is, but I'm in my feelings for good reasons."

"Like..."

"Him ignorin' my calls and texts, but Nick textin' and callin' Victoria whenever he gets the chance," I said in a bitter tone.

"Well.. that's different, baby girl. Nick and Victoria are together, but you and Lucky aren't."

Even though I knew what he was saying was true, it didn't make it hurt any less.

"Aight," he suddenly said before setting his food aside and giving me his full attention, "talk to me."

"About what," I asked with a confused face.

"About you and Omari's relationship. What's really goin' on 'cause I ain't buyin' that best friend bullshit."

"We really are just best friends dad," I honestly said and sipped my Sprite.

"So... you ain't got no feelings for him?"

I swear time stopped when he asked me that question, but I got knocked back into reality when I began choking on my drink. I let out a series of loud coughs, attracting unwanted attention.

"Relax, Nae. Gon' fuck around and end up in the hospital 'cause of yo' exaggeratin' ass, just breathe," my dad tried to coach me in his own way.

Once I regained my composure, I wiped my face with a napkin as I stared at him with wide eyes.

What made him ask me that? I know I can sometimes make my feelings towards Omari obvious, but I always been careful of my actions around my dad. Did Queen tell him? Or maybe he heard us talking about him over the phone?

"Lanae," my dad called out causing me to come back to reality. A reality that I didn't wish existed right now.

"Dad.." I hesitantly spoke, "what made you ask me that question?"

He gave me a really face, "Why did I ask? I mean.. I'm not sum dumb nigga aight? I see how y'all interact wit' each other and almost everybody knows something bigger than friendship is goin' on between y'all. Lanae just be real wit' me.. do you have feelings for him?"

My heart was literally pumping out of my chest. I was so nervous because this is my dad I'm talking to. I wanted a man's perspective, but I was a little nervous about his thoughts on the situation. I never know how my dad will take certain things because he's unpredictable.

After a few seconds of thinking, I sighed before truthfully answering his question, "Yes."

There was no point in lying if he already knew the answer to his own question.

He smirked before he grabbed his food and began eating again. "Man, I knew it," he laughed, "how long have you been havin' these feelings for him?"

"Since I was fifteen."

He completely paused his movements as he held his half eaten drumstick. "For real, Nae," he questioned with a surprised expression on his face.

"Yes," I confirmed, "I always had a crush on him, but around the time mom died.. I realized what I felt for him was deeper than anything I ever felt before."

"Damn... that peanut head ass nigga had my daughter loving him when she was only fifteen years old," he paused, "that's some deep shit."

I nodded my head, "Yeah, but daddy you can't say anything."

"Why not?"

"Because I don't want him to know yet. I'm not ready to tell him about my feelings towards him because I'm afraid of his reaction," I admitted.

"Who the fuck are you," my dad asked out of the blue causing my face to scrunch up.

"What," I questioned.

"Who the fuck are you," he repeated, "what's yo' last name, Nae?"

"Roberts."

"You damn right. You ah mothafuckin' Roberts. You don't fear ah damn thing and I mean that shit. You got savage blood runnin' through yo' veins so you better boss the fuck up."

"Dad," I laughed, "I know what you're sayin', but this is different."

"How? Just because it involves Omari doesn't mean it's different. At the end of the day you'll be followin' yo' heart. When you fight 'em bitches out there, you using yo' heart. When you come across any fuckin' obstacle in life you use yo' heart to get through that shit. It's all about spirit, period."

I understood what he was saying, but I was still nervous about telling Omari about my feelings.

"You're right, but what do you think I should do," I asked.

"Stop makin' this whole situation complicated. I think you should let him know about yo' feelings. Just sit his ass down and keep it all the way real wit' him. Trust me.. y'all will be together by the end of the conversation," my dad said with so much confidence.

I raised an eyebrow, "You know something that I don't?"

"I peeped something that you should've peeped ah long time ago," he said shaking his head, "I swear, I wish you had yo' mama's common sense.. 'cause I know for sure you got that slow ass thinkin' from me."

I gasped causing him to chuckle, "Daddy don't be callin' me slow."

"Sorry baby girl. I'm only lettin' you know 'cause I love you," he smirked before his face became serious once again, "but I know that lil' nigga got feelings for you.. his actions speak louder than his words."

Could it be true?

***

It's been hours since me and my dad spoke about my feelings towards Omari. After we were done eating our Wing Stop, we went to the mall, we went go-cart racing, we went to Dave and Busters, and we out to eat for dinner. Today was eventful.

I got to learn that my dad was still a kid at heart and he is funny as hell. The whole day he's been having me weak and causing problems. Even with everything he was doing, nobody said anything to him or tried to stop him. Every time I tried to apologize for his behavior, he'll say Baby girl you don't gotta say sorry to nobody. You got my blood running through you.. and if anybody got ah problem they can get popped. I'll just shake my head each time.

We got home a few minutes ago and I just got out the shower. I got dressed into a red tank top and some black yoga pants. After that I fixed my hair and grabbed my phone off the bed. Unlocking it with my fingertip, I quickly speed dialed Omari's number and placed my phone by my ear.

"Wassup," he answered in a deep voice after a few rings.

"I'm finna come over your house, we gotta talk," I stated before I heard shuffling on the other end.

"Tonight? You ain't wanna just wait until tomorrow," he questioned.

I moved the phone from my ear and read the time. 9:36. I placed it back into my ear, "No, it's important."

He was silent for a little while before he blew out a breathe, "Aight. I'm finna come pick you up tho' 'cause I moved and I don't want you gettin' lost this late, so I'm finna come through."

I raised an eyebrow, "And when were you gonna tell me, you moved?"

"When you lost yo' attitude," he chuckled causing me to smack my lips.

"Bye Omari," I hung up the phone and threw myself onto my bed. My phone dinged seconds later causing me to smirk.

😩😍don't get fucked up.

😂😂😂

I locked my screen and hopped off of my bed. As I walked out of my room, I was debating inside of my head if I should lie about where I was going or tell the truth. When my eyes landed on my dad I knew I was going to tell him the truth because we both had something in common. We value honesty.

"Hey dad, what are you doin'," I asked sitting down next to him on the couch.

"Shit nothing," he chuckled, "tired as hell. Today made me realize my ass really gettin' old out here."

"Awww," I laughed, "it's okay. You still livin' like you're in your twenties."

"Mhm," he smirked before looking at me from the corner of his eye, "what you want?"

My heart stopped, "What you mean?"

"I mean what I said," he laughed, "what you tryna ask me, Nae?"

I laughed nervously and began fidgeting with my fingers, "Well... I was wonderin' if I was allowed to leave...."

He nodded his head, "Leave and go where?"

"Omari's," I mumbled to the point where only I could hear my voice.

"What?"

I sighed before I blurted out, "Omari's."

I closed my eyes waiting on him to cuss me out, but he didn't say a word. He was as quiet as a mouse. I peeled my eyes open and glanced over at my dad. He was staring at the tv screen, but I knew he wasn't paying attention to it. He was in deep thought.

Right when I was excepting him to just ignore my question, he spoke up, "I appreciate you keepin' it real wit' me and I kinda excepted this, but not tonight. I thought you was gon' ask me sometime next week or sum'," he paused, "I need you to understand you still my baby girl and I'm not use to you being grown yet. I went to jail when you were just ten years old and sometimes I gotta remind myself you're eighteen. I know y'all got shit to talk about, so imma let you go over this lil' nigga's house this one time, but in the future I want y'all meeting up here or somewhere in public, you understand?"

"Okay, whatever you say dad," I smiled before hugging him, "thank you."

"Yeah, yeah," he said while patting my back twice, "all I know is when you walk back in this damn house tomorrow you still better be ah virgin."

I pulled away with wide eyes, "Dad..."

"Lanae Roberts I'm serious as fuck. Don't make me have to put ah bullet in the lil' nigga."

I gasped, "Daddy don't say that. That's your future son in law."

"Exactly, so lose yo' virginity on the honeymoon. Matter fact not ever."

I threw my head back laughing, "Dad you're a trip."

"I'm dead ass."

"I know. Trust me dad, I'm not easy," I said.

"That's what I like to hear," he grinned, holding his hand out for me. I smiled and shook my head before I dapped him up. "So how you finna get to his house?"

"He's picking me up."

He shook his head, "I should change my mind and kill both of y'alls vibes. You just knew you was finna leave."

"I'm sorry," I rushed out, "it won't happen again."

"Oh, I know it won't," he stated and switched the sports channel to BET.
