《The Whipping》Chapter 7

"Logan, we spoke about this, I said I didn't want to be introduced to anyone," I shook my head, frustrated that Logan had ignored my requests.

"Please, Eliza. I tried getting her out of the house for the day, but she's babysitting for my sister," Logan pleaded, furrowing his brows sadly.

I shouldn't have come. I specifically said I had not wanted to be introduced to anyone. I didn't want to get to know anyone. I wanted to see the pure evil pack Logan was running with my own eyes and then leave, never to return.

I glared into Logan's eyes, rolling my eyes. "Fine, but just a quick introduction. Don't tell her who I am."

Logan's face fell and he bit his lip, nodding, composing himself. "I wasn't going to. It's okay."

Logan pushed the door open, holding it for me. Offering an awkward smile as a thank you, I stepped into the house. It wasn't what I was expecting. I wasn't sure what I was expecting. Was I expecting the walls to be painted black and cobwebs dangling from every corner of the ceiling? Was I expecting blood stained tiles and a creepy old wooden rocking chair, moving on its own in the corner? It wasn't what I got.

Instead, the inside of the house was decorated to perfection. It didn't have everything perfectly placed, and it was busy with furniture and accessories, but it looked personal and really lived in. It was cute and rustic which I liked. The curtains were a majestic blue colour and the walls were painted a pale yellow. Everything was colourful, almost to the point where it was tacky, but not quite crossing that line.

"My mother likes to collect," whispered Logan, obviously noticing me taking in the crazy amount of collectable mounted on the walls and sitting on the tables.

"She lives with you?" I asked.

Logan nodded, guiding me through to the kitchen, which was decorated just as beautifully. I rounded the corner to see a petite red haired woman at the stove, slaving away.

Logan coughed, grabbing the woman's attention, and she turned, startled.

"Oh my goodness, Logan, I didn't hear you come in. Who's this?"

"Um, this is Eliza."

I smiled awkwardly, not knowing what to do, but the woman rushed up to us, beaming. "Nice to meet you! I'm Diane, are you a newbie here?"

"No, Mom, she's from another pack. She's just visiting."

Logan's voice was quiet and emotionless and I noticed how he stiffened next to me.

"Oh, well I'm making lasagne, so if you guys want any-"

"It's fine, don't worry about it," said Logan, pulling his Mom in for a one-shouldered hug. "Let's go, I'll show you around."

Logan guided me through the house, showing me every single room, talking through how he and his mother had spent months decorating it. "It's small, but it's comfortable, and my Mom loves it- that's the main thing. I'm not here the majority of the time anyway, so it's practically hers."

I smiled- a genuine smile. Logan clearly loved his mother and I respected that, as not all sons did. He seemed to really appreciate her, causing my insides to flutter. I had always been a family orientated person, and it made me happy that Logan was too. However, it was unexpected. I had expected him to have no family at all.

We walked back into the kitchen, to now be joined by a little girl, who seemed to be around the age of about five.

"Hey, how you doing squirt?" asked Logan as he scooped the young girl up in his arms, brushing her curly brunette pigtails out of her face. She laughed, beaming up at Logan as she poked at his cheeks playfully.

I gazed in shock, my lips parted in amazement at the sight in front of me. I did not think of Logan being a kids person, but I guess I was wrong.

"Eliza, this is Millie, my niece," Logan announced, proudly, stepping closer to me so I could say hello.

"Hi," I smiled, not knowing what to say. I had never had much experience with children. I had no siblings and our pack was small, meaning babies didn't come around too often.

Millie giggled, covering her eyes with her tiny hands.

"Don't be shy Millie, she's nice," said Logan.

Diane laughed, shaking her head. "You are a silly one Millie."

Logan set her down, allowing Millie to run back to her collection of stuffed animals she was playing with before we entered.

"Alright Mom, we're going out for a bit, I'll be back later."

Logan's mother nodded in understanding, waving goodbye to me nicely as we exited the house.

"That was...interesting," I stated, causing Logan's face to fall.

"Why? Didn't you like them?"

"No, of course I did, it wasn't that. I guess, I wasn't expecting such a family?"

I was aware that what I had said sounded rude and obnoxious because, really, I didn't know Logan at all, but he had given me a pretty awful first impression, and that's all I had to go off.

Logan laughed, obviously understanding what I had meant. "Family is important to me Eliza. It's important to all of us."

I nodded, unsure of how to reply without sounding rude, so I settled with silence.

"Let's go for a walk."

Logan grabbed my hand softly, pulling me down the path through the village. I tried my best to ignore the tingling sensation that my fingertips were feeling, but longer Logan was holding my hand, the more intense it got. I eventually pulled it away, not wanting to let this go too far whilst I was here.

We ended up at a wooden bench, the village just in sight, but it was a nice and private area. Blossom trees shaded us from the warmth of the hot sun, and of course made the place look even more beautiful. A large lake was positioned next to us, with ducks and frogs happily wallowing away in the deep clear water. The grass was a stunning emerald green colour and budding flowers were dotted around us, adding yet another splash of colour to this spring-looking paradise. I couldn't help but compare this place to my land. Everything here looked so clean and fresh. The village was bustling with people paroling, landscaping, running, laughing, training, creating and building. It was almost magical. I had never seen a pack so independent. They seemed to live as if no one else existed.

I perched on the edge of the wooden bench, taking everything in and breathing in the fresh air, the wind carrying scents of fresh flowers and blossom.

"Do you like it here?" asked Logan, interrupting my relaxing thoughts. I sighed, unsure of what to say, but I knew the truth. Yes, I did.

"Yeah," I admitted, gazing into his glowing hazel eyes.

"I would really like you to come back again Eliza."

Logan's eyes held the truth, and I could tell he was truly happy I had come today.

This was nothing like I had expected. I had expected to be feeling eager to leave, but I didn't. I wanted to explore some more; to look around everywhere. His pack was much bigger than mine, and I was sure there was lots more to see.

My conflicting thoughts were confusing me, messing with my head. I knew this was so wrong, but it just felt so right. My family wouldn't allow it after everything that had happened, but maybe they could forgive and forget.

But, could I?...
