《HUNGRY EYES || J.JK × Reader ✔》chapter 1 | Stare at me

'JUNGKOOK'S P.O.V'
I get out of my room after getting ready, and I hold my bag on one shoulder, grabbing the strap but looking at my phone. I get out of the building while answering the texts I received to join my friends.
Once I am outside, I put my phone back in my pocket and walk up to the three jerks who are already together. "Hey," I nudge my way to have some space in this circle, and they greet me. "Hey, finally. You're twenty minutes late, bro," Hojun mentions it.
"I know, I wanted to sleep a little more, I'm tired," I tell him the truth, and he chuckles. "Uh. Sleep is more important, I agree," he does not get upset as usual, knowing how I am. I take a peek at the time it is but look on my left at the sound of an annoying voice.
"Baby," Gayoon wraps her arms around my best friend, Minhyuk, her boyfriend. She kisses him, and I look away to not see this display of affection that I loath, but I fall upon someone I always see everywhere. I fix my eyes on her as she is staying quiet around her friends, not saying anything but listening to them. She turns her head at the wrong time, and we both make eye contact again.
We make eye contact like we do almost every day since this second semester started, the same way we used to do it before the summer vacation.
She maintains it, to my greatest pleasure, and I do not look away either but stare at her, and some seconds pass without me focusing on anything but her. I swear, she always gives me that look that asks me to not break the contact but keep staring, either to tease, or to flirt.
Her pretty eyes, those pretty eyes know how to get me. Then one she smiles, that is when I lose it.
"Hey," Hojun drifts my attention away from this girl, not wanting him to catch me staring at her. "Have you done the work Mister Han gave us last week?" the topic reminds me of how much I struggled this weekend because of him, and I nod. "I did. I don't want to fail or get a zero. You didn't?"
"I tried...but I couldn't," he does not even fear the consequences of his laziness, and I chuckle but do not judge. I know he has a hard time focusing on something for too long and being diligent.
"I'm gonna fail so hard, damn...but that's my fault," he expresses some despair to make me feel empathy, but I know this type of scene way too well, and I will not give in to him. "Yes, you will. I won't give you mine."
He does not hide his disappointment, feeling no shame. "Well...I tried."
•••
I toy with my tongue piercing while listening to the teacher, peeking down at my laptop screen from time to time to take some notes while Hojun is watching some videos next to me and not even paying attention. I stick the top of my pen in my mouth and stretch, but I turn my head to the right and direct my eyes towards the girl with pretty eyes who tied her hair up, but I catch her already staring. She averts her eyes from me right away to pretend to be innocent, and I smile but run my fingers through my hair to focus back on the lesson.

"Dude," Hojun takes one earphone off, and he whispers to me. "Who are you always staring at like that? Do you have a secret girl or something?"
"No, just looking at random people," I lie and bite on my pen, my eyes remaining on the teacher even though I'm not interested in the lesson at all. "Uh uh. I'm pretty sure it's that girl who fell asleep the other day during art history class," he does not even get the right one, and I chuckle. "Nope."
"Then who is it?" he does not leave me alone, so I shut him up. "Just watch your videos, I need to focus," I ignore him to make sure he will not try to ask another question again, but I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket, so I discreetly take a look at the notification I received to check if this is a text or not, but this is from Instagram. I open it and see who liked the new picture I posted last night.
"The girls who follow you are just thirsty bitches," the frustration that he feels because of the number of likes I get makes him pop off, and I laugh behind my screen to not get caught. "You're just jealous."
"I'm not, I don't want plenty of bitches, I don't need that to feel hot," the excess of confidence leaks out of his mouth with no hint of doubt, too self-assured to even believe his face is not as pretty as mine. "I don't need that either, they're the ones following me because they like my content."
"They don't like your content, they like your abs, and your dick that you always show off in your grey sweatpants when you post a story. You do it on purpose because you know they like that," he rolls his eyes but puts his earphones back on. "Now, I can't hear you anymore."
I wheeze at his childish behavior but do not mind it. I like to see how jealous he gets about that. He knows I do not care about those girls, but he still wants the same, and he denies it.
I take a peek at the teacher to see where he is looking at, and I put all my attention back on my phone to check something. The girl from who I always wait for a 'like' on what I publish. She is the only one I want to see in the people who liked and commented, unfortunately, she never leaves a comment on any of them. Once I type her username 'Nounours', which I do not even know how to pronounce, I get on her account to check if she still follows me, and the relief fills me once I see that we both follow each other. I check her last post, the vintage aesthetic of her account still looking cute. I read the comments that a few people left and quit to focus on my work.
•••
I sip on my Frappuccino while sitting at a table in the cafeteria with my friends, eating some cookies that Kimoon's mother baked and which he does not mind sharing with us because of the amount she gave him.
"How old is your mom?" I ask, this question running through my head since I first bit into the cookie. He fixes his glasses on his nose bridge and pulls his black hair back but already feels like he should not trust me. "Thirty-eight. Why?"
"Just asking..." I shrug and chew on the sweet, but Hojun, who is right next to me glances at me. "You said she's a single mom, didn't you?" I do not leave him alone, the three of us chatting while Minhyuk is focusing on his ugly girl that I hate. "Yes. Why the fuck do you wanna know that?"

"I'm curious, that's all," I act innocent and shove the end of my cookie in my mouth to drink my coffee, but Hojun chuckles. "Tell her that Jungkook finds her very beautiful," I annoy him, and the guy next to me who has the same level of maturity enjoys it. "Shut up. I won't."
"Why? She said that I was the cutest among your friends, come on," I insist, but he gets upset about it. "I won't! Bro. Stop talking about my mom."
"You're rude. I'm just being kind," I slide the straw between my lips and sip the liquid, giving him a break. "Choke on your Frappuccino," he wishes me bad luck like a jerk, but I do not react since I kind of deserve it. "It's too expensive to choke on it though..." I still remark. "I don't give a damn about that."
"What are you talking about, guys?" Gayoon ruins the mood, bending over the table to lay her forearms over it and expose her cleavage to us when her guy is right next to her. I peek down at it, uncontrollably but do not feel anything at all. The hatred I feel towards her is way too big to even let me enjoy the sight of her breasts.
"Guy stuff, you can't understand," Hojun does not even hold back, letting his thoughts and mind out. She forces a smile while staring at him. "I know, you're way too dumb for me."
"Leave us alone," he throws her a look full of disdain, and she rolls her eyes and goes back to her boyfriend. I wish he had a brain, he would not date such girls. I do not pay attention to any of them anymore but take a look around us, and in only short seconds, I come across the 'Nounours' girl, eating a burrito at a table without anyone, wearing the hood of her yellow hoodie. She really seems to be enjoying that burrito, I hate to say this, but she is cute.
Too weak to even look away and put my eyes on someone or something else, I discreetly have a glimpse of her every five seconds, but after the second time only, we both make eye contact, holding her lunch right before her mouth to chew. Her eyes dart to the left, and the straw in my mouth gets bitten by my teeth once I smile like a stupid boy, finding this adorable.
I avoid looking like a creep, even though I often catch her staring, and I take my phone out to browse on Instagram but checking how many followers I now have, as well as the number of likes on my last post.
Something bugs me, literally disturbs me, I need to look again. I know I should control myself and stop, but I want to know if she's still being interested in what I am doing, if I am still the center of attention for her. My eyes shoot up towards her, the large feet separating us. I lick my lips once our eyes meet, both playing with each other all the time when we never talked or got near one another.
I bite my lips, nervously, nibbling on my bottom one, noticing how hard she is trying not to smile while avoiding my gaze and then coming back. I stop making her feel so shy and just look down at my drink.
"Kook," Gayoon asks for my attention again, getting me to roll my eyes and shoves my mouth with another cookie. "What?"
She stands up and walks up to me to sit down next to me. "Don't you check your dm's anymore?" she speaks in a lower voice. She must have noticed that I have not answered her messages, nor opened them. "Yeah, daddy," Hojun touches my thigh to mimic her and uses an annoying voice. "Why don't you answer my dm's anymore when I'm asking for your attention and flirting with you nonstop? Hm?"
I chuckle but ignore this dumbass, who always enjoys calling me daddy because he knows I will play along. "I don't check my dm's anymore, that's why," I lie to her, putting my eyes on 'Nounours' instead of her. "Oh, but could you check them today? I texted you."
"About what?" I barely give her my attention, but she does not get the hint. "About your last post."
"Hm, I'll take a look if I have time," I let her hear what she wants to get from me, but she pecks my cheek and thanks me before going away.
Is she serious?
•••
I enter my room, now done with the courses, my roommate greets me in his hoodie and sweatpants while being busy on his phone.
"Did you come back earlier?" I take my shoes off and leave them at the door, and he looks at me. "No, I was just faster to come here."
"Oh," I chuckle but drop my phone and bag on my bed, and I move to the mini-fridge. I grab a can of peach juice with a sausage and some cheese. and I get in the cabinet next to it to take the tteokbokki baked rice. I open it, and I add the cheese, with the sausage cut into pieces, and I put everything in the microwave to let it warm up.
"I forgot to tell you, but you received a package. I put it in your nightstand," he points his finger at it, so I move towards it and check what it could be. Hoping for this to not be a prank, or something from my ex.
Once I have it within sight, I relax, and the tension leaves my body to let place to some delight. This is the order I was waiting for this whole week. I sit down and hurry to open it, feeling way too impatient to be gentle.
"What is it?" Chiwon curiously asks me, so I show him the clothing once it's out. "A hoodie."
"It looks good," he does not criticizes it, both thinking the same. I know he could try to steal that from me because we have the same taste, but he better not. "Yes, but this is mine," I make it clear and stand up to take my top off, getting shirtless, I try the black hoodie on but feel happy about my purchase right away. This feels cozy as ever.
"Also, I wanted to ask you something," he puts his phone down on his chest, and I take my hoodie off to put it in my wardrobe. "Did your tongue piercing hurt? My best friend wants to get one too."
"Personally, it didn't, but it depends on how he stands the pain," I take my food out of the microwave, my stomach screaming to be fed. I land on my bed and finally have some free time for myself. "And your nose ring?"
"It didn't either," I shake my head to tell the truth. "All right, I'll tell him then," he nods and goes back on his phone, probably to text that guy. "And...you know...with that tongue piercing," he shows some more restrain as if what he is about to broach was not very appropriate. "Oral sex...Is it better like everyone says?"
I smirk but shove some rice and pieces of sausages in my mouth. Each time someone knows about this one piercing in particular, all they want to know is that matter. "My ex said it felt amazing, so I guess," I do not give him a clear answer since I am not sure, but he takes it. "Okay."
"But he shouldn't get one if he just wants it for sexual purpose," I warn him, knowing what most people think about before getting one. "He's going to regret it if he does."
"I don't think he wants it just for that reason, he just finds it cool and wants one on him," he types on his phone to text, speaking to me at the same time. Not asking me any more questions but focusing on his other conversation, I take this opportunity to enjoy my food, but my phone rings. I set my eyes on my screen to check what this is but see a notification from Instagram.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.

The Last God (Excerpt)
This is an excerpt of the upcoming novel The Last God. Everyone cheered the day the world ended. Everyone cheered the day he saved the world. Cael Cavanaugh did not. Cael Cavanaugh survived the brutal invasion of his home and is now living with his family and adopted siblings on the ashen lands of the west. He rescues people from a fate that eclipses death and is the bridge between a rebel group that will stop at nothing to achieve its goals, and a tyrannical government that treats those who have not been reborn as dregs. But when Cael inadvertently sets off the end of the world, he will have to choose between a government that could avert world annihilation but that holds sinister motives, or the equally vicious rebel group that would sacrifice everyone for what they call liberty, even those Cael holds dearest. How far would you go to save the world?
