Will you marry me?

Those were the words on Patton's wrist. The amount of time he'd spend just staring at them was probably more than a healthy amount. He traced the neat handwriting over and over again. His thoughts were wondering and his gaze had gone distant. It wasn't until he felt a hand on his shoulder that he snapped out of it, jumping slightly at the contact. He turned to look at who it was.

"Oh, Logan, it's you," he said, smiling a little. His necktie wearing best friend and roommate smiled but said nothing in response. He never did.

Logan was a mute.

Sure, he knew how to talk, he could if he wanted to, but Patton had known him since first grade and had never once heard his voice. It didn't stop them from being friends. Despite how long they'd known each other, neither one of them had ever shown each other what their words were. You don't really show your words to people. Nevertheless, they were inseparable friends. They didn't think they'd ever stop being friends. Well, until...

"Logan?" His friend looked up. "I don't think I actually have a soulmate."

Logan's eyes widened and his brows furrowed as he tilted his head. Patton knew he was silently asking him to elaborate. They'd known each other for so long Logan rarely had to use his notepad during "conversations".

Patton sighed. "It's just- there's no possible way for me to have a soulmate with these words," he said sadly. "There's no way..."

Logan moved across the room to sit next to him. He placed a hand gently over Patton's. He squeezed his eyes shut as he hung his head. He felt Logan place a hand under his cheek and pull his face gently to look at him. It was then that Patton realized his affections for his friend. Feelings he'd been shoving away for years had resurfaced by the touch of his hand.

"M-Maybe I don't need to have a soulmate to be with someone," he said softly. He realized how close Logan was, feeling his heart race and his head pound.

Logan shook his head the tiniest bit as he leaned closer. Patton's breathing hitched as he continued.

"M-Maybe I'm in love with someone else..." he said softly. Logan nodded with a small smile as his lips ghosted over Patton's.

"Maybe..." he said softly, before closing the gap between he and Logan. Both of Logan's hands held his face as he slid his arms around his neck, tangling his fingers with his hair. It was a gentle kiss, but was filled with passion and love. Love that filled their gazes as they pulled away panting and looking at each other.

"Logan, I understand that you have a soulmate so you shouldn't be with me," Patton said. "But I'm yours if you want me."

Three Years Later

Patton woke up from his nap to find a note on his bedside table. He yawned as he slipped his glasses on and picked it up. Opening it, he wasn't surprised to find a letter from his boyfriend.

My love, I have something special for you. Please put on your favorite suit and meet me in the park for an evening you'll never forget.

Love,

~ Logan <3

Patton smiled, jumping out of bed and rushing to his closet. Sure enough, he pulled out his favorite suit, not wasting a second to get changed. When he looked in the mirror, he smiled. Patton really did like this suit; it was white and he wore a light blue vest and bow tie with it.

Smiling, he started walking to the park, excited and nervous. What did Logan mean by a night he'd never forget?

As the sun began to sink closer to the horizon, Patton found Logan standing by a large tree. He gasped as he looked at the scene. There was a picnic blanket laid out under the tree, which had small paper lanterns hanging from it, and candles on the ground around the blanket. Patton could see that Logan had prepared a dinner that was ready to be eaten at any moment, making his mouth water as he approached him with a smile.

"Well doesn't someone look handsome," he said as he gestured to Logan's suit, which was black with a deep blue necktie. His boyfriend blushed bashfully before gesturing to Patton's. he knew what he meant, blushing himself. "Oh, thank you," he said. "May we?"

Logan nodded, taking his hand and leading him to sit on the picnic blanket. They ate dinner together, Patton talking and Logan chiming in with a gesture the other easily understood. When they had finished, Patton finally turned to Logan with a big smile.

"So what was all this about?" he asked. Logan was silent for a moment before standing up, offering him a hand.

They began to walk, swinging their interlocked fingers back and forth under the now star covered sky. They reached a bridge where Patton walked over to the railing, looking up at the moon with a smile. Logan took a deep breath next to him, moving behind him. He gently tapped Patton's shoulder who turned out distracted by the moon as he smiled.

"Yes Logan-"

His sentence stopped dead as his gaze landed on his boyfriend. His boyfriend was on one knee and holding a ring box. Logan took another deep breath as Patton watched him open it in shock.
