In the Hyuga family, it is important to stay within family relationships. Meaning a cousin would date another cousin. This was in order to keep the blood pure, away from cross-contaminating genetics with other clans.
You were the chief's daughter, right about ready for marriage.
Today was the day you'd be dress fitted for your wedding dress. Your husband was going to someone your father choose for you, and expected the two of you the give birth to children of the next generation. But f*ck those traditions- you wanted to be something more than a child bearer.
"Mother," you said, walking next to her.
Her lavender eyes met your with a kind smile.
"Yes, my dear?" she asked you.
Puffing out your cheeks, you crossed your arms.
"Did you meet dad the day you got married, or did you guys grow up together like the couples do in the old romance books in the library?"
The wrinkles/creases of her face moved and folded against one another as she chuckled. "Well, I met him a few times before we got married. In fact, we were friends when we were kids. However, I got distant with him as he went out to war."
Rolling your eyes, you let out a gentle sigh.
While you were walking to the dress shop, a loud noise was coming from the other side of the street. Both of you looked at the other side to notice Harishima, the Hokage, and a herd of sheep were being chased by him.
Reflexively pulling your mom to the side, you watched wide eyes as a hundred, fluffy, white sheep ran past you all.
Luckily, a horse was nearby being held by a rope.
"Mom. I'm sorry, but I'm going to help Lord Hokage!" you exclaimed, going over to the horse and getting on top of him. The black horsed whined, moving a bit under you. But after a second, you were able to untie the knot and run like the wind on top of him.

Shocked, your mouth watched in horror to watch her fifth child follow the herd and a screaming Hokage.

Somehow they were able to run far enough into a field of flowers.
"LORD HOKAGE-" you yelled over their loud stomping as you raced ahead with the hose. "-I'LL TRY TO TURN THEM AROUND! PLEASE STAY THERE!"
Harishima's, aka Lord Hokage's, dark chocolate eyes widened as you went up. But his top priority was to get the sheep back to their rightful field.
Though you didn't have a whip, you grabbed a flimsy tree branch and swung it near the sheep. They eventually began to turn around, looping back to the street you last saw them with you mother.
Thirty minutes later, Harishima and you got them to their field.
Walking next to him, both of you were covered in sweat.
"Thank you, Hyuga..." he told you, giving you a respectable bow. Your cheeks heated up softly, looking away from the bent Hokage. "No problem, Lord Hokage," you told him, bowing in respect back.
He smiled while he stood up straight. "Please, call me Harishima. While you know my name now, is there anything else I can call you beside Hyuga?" Harishima asked you. Nodding, you smiled wider. "Please call me Y/n, Harishima." you told him.
Nodding, he began to walk.
"I will walk you home. A young lady like you shouldn't walk alone." he told you. Staying by his side, you frowned slightly. "I hope you do not get offended, Lord, but you're about the same age as me. It must be a lot of stress for someone out age to rule over a whole land."
Harishima's cheeks dusted red. "O-Oh, we are?! You looked prettier than most people our age, and younger....I hope that doesn't offended you, too." he said. Both of you began to laugh.
It seemed your upper-classed Hokage wasn't as scary as you thought.

That night, it seemed all the belief of getting married to a stranger was still indeed silly.
You also didn't get to get fitted for your wedding dress.
Tonight was the first, secret date for Harishima and you. It was quite late out at night. The night sky was already out, and some people lit up their out door lanterns. This also meant everyone was asleep.
Your goal was to escape silently without ruining your look or acting funny. Looking down at your kimono, you wondered if it was to much.
It was almost time to go though.
Looks like I won't time to change. You only live once, right?...
Walking out to the back door, you opened it silently as you stepped out.
But, who was sitting on the porch?! Your father.
"Father I-"
"The roots of a plant stay in the same soil as their parents. And as the outside environment might give them the nutrient, it grows. However, the plant would not grow in the first place if it wasn't for the soil. In the end, the roots will stay put in the ground to maintain tradition of what the plant should do, no matter how little water they are given or how much heat is brought up upon. My daughter, why must you disobey your ancestral dirt?"
Biting your lip, you walked over to him and sat down next to him. He wasn't to mad, but he also wasn't to happy as he looked at your fancy kimono and the way you did your hair.
It took you a moment to speak as you stared out at the city.
"Not every plant relies on the organic tradition. There's plants where the roots were never growing in the dirt, and some of them are in the dirty water of nature's kiss. I am neither of those. However, I do not stand by your statement. I do not want to rely on the soil we've been planted on, I want to revolutionized to became something more than a simple plant. I want to be a flower. I want to blossom my relationship with Lord Hokage. Forgive me for saying this."
He took a deep breath in before smiling slightly.
"Your mother used to be the same. When we were kids, instead of staying home to practice how to cook the perfect meals for her perfect husband, she was swinging a makeshift wood sword at me. But, I cannot bless your relationship."
Harishima was at the end of the block from the large Hyuga clan. He paused to listen in on what you were saying.
Taking his words calmly, you stood up. "Then I will continue to fight for what I love: Harishima. You cannot stop me, and nor do I think I will become the tamed plant you want me to be. I'll be taking me leave now."
Your father stood up, ready to tell you to come back. But your mother's hand gripped his shoulder. "Let her go, (father's name)." she whispered to him, watching you meet up with Harishima at the entrance of the Hyuga clan. "Reminds me of someone I know..." your father said, getting up with the help of your mother.
They both watched as you spoke with the Hokage.
"What you said...was it true?" Harishima asked you as soon as he saw you, wrapping his arms around you tightly as he had a wide smile.
Blushing madly, you looked up at him. "Y-You were listening in on our conversation?!" you asked him, hiding your face in his chest after you spoke. He let out a hearty laugh before blushing back. "Just the most important part! I love you too....Y/n." he told you.
Gasping (not dramatically tho), you leaned up to his face. "Ah, what a relief~!" you whispered, glancing down at his lips. Both of you touched mouths as he held you close to him.

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
