《Return • Todoroki ff》Chapter 18

"Niko? Why are you home?" Niko's father asked when he lifted his head up from the newspaper he was reading.
"I gave my employees a break for 2 days and asked them to return on Monday," Niko replied taking a seat in front of her father.
"So why are you looking for me?"
"I want to discuss something with you."
"What is it," He said putting the newspaper down to give Niko his full attention, something Niko never got unless it was related to work or school.
"I would like to ask for your permission to withdraw from my position as the company's CEO."
"Why."
"Todoroki asked me to follow him to United States."
"Todoroki..? Ah that boy you were dating back in high school. The last I checked you were the one who initiated the breakup and you were also the one who asked if you could go over to Korea to help out. Why the sudden change."
"First of all, our breakup wasn't because we fell out of love it was because of Endeavour, he deemed that I was unsuitable for his son and forced us to breakup and secondly I asked if I could go to Korea to help out because I didn't want him to have a hard time getting over me."
"I am not really interested with whatever reasons you give me. All I can say is no. You are not leaving the company and you are most certainly not going to United States. If there's nothing else you may leave," Reo said picking up his newspaper again.
"But why," Niko asked leaning forward in her chair.
"If you were to leave who is going to take care of the company, Asahi is still in school and said that he most certainly not going to take over the family business. Akira has her own business and knows nothing about the company. So that leaves you. Does that answer your question?"

"But Akira said that she is willing to take over the company if I were to leave."
"Niko Hitori this is final. You are not leaving the company."
"Dad!"
"Niko Hitori! Do not raise your voice at me. This is not how I raised you to be."
"So are you telling me to shut up and continue doing something I don't like?"
"Yes."
"You're so selfish."
"How dare you call me selfish. Everything I am doing now is for our family and Akira knows nothing about the company," Reo said sighing as he massaged his temples.
"You're lying! You're saying all this because you don't want to ruin their dreams! Don't think I don't know when Akira said she didn't want to take over the company you said it was fine and when you asked Asahi about it, he also said no. You didn't bother to ask me. You didn't bother to ask me if this was what I wanted. Because of you I might not have the opportunity to mend my relationship with the person I love. Because of you my dreams were ruined. You were just taking advantage of my willingness to get away from Japan just because of a breakup I faced. I said that I was going to Korea to help out but I never said that I had any intentions of taking over the company-"
"Niko Hitori stop playing mind games with me, if you didn't want to take over the company you could have just said so," Reo said slamming his hands onto his table hoping to scare Niko but that obviously went down the drain because Niko continued to talk.
"Rubbish. Since young have you ever once listened to what I really wanted. Did you ever ask why my grades were plummeting in middle school. Did you ever ask me what I really wanted, did you ever ask what I wished to be when I grew up. No. You didn't. When I was in Korea intended to come back to tell you that after the company in Korea was doing better I would come back to Japan and continue my dreams. But as I was video calling you, you told me that didn't matter and my first priority was the company. What did you want me to do? Rebuke you? As if I dared," As Niko was saying all this tears were forming in her eyes and they were threatening to fall with every word she said.

But what she didn't know was that her elder sister, Akira was standing by the door listening to their conversation. Yes of course Akira knew this wasn't right and it was wrong for her to do so but if she didn't would she have known all the regret and pain that her sister was bottling up within her? No. Although the root of the problem lied within Reo Hitori but deep down Akira knew that if she wasn't so stubborn and accepted her fate of being her father's heiress her younger sister wouldn't have to go through the pain she was going through now.
Just as Akira wasa about to open the door, the door opened and Niko stood by the door.
"Akira? Why are you here," Niko asked wiping away the tears that were by her eyes.
"I was going to send Father some tea that he wanted."
"We're done with our conversation so you can go in now," Niko said as she turned in the direction of her room and walked towards it.
But before she could walk any further Akira called her.
"Niko I know you want to go to the United States and I am going to do whatever I can to let you go," Akira said as she smiled.
Before Niko could reply Akira walked into the study room with the teapot and teacup closing the door behind her. Niko could only watch as her sister disappeared within the study room. Niko walked back to her room and sat on her bed hugging one of the stuff toys that was on her bed.
"What if Dad really made up his mind. What if I can't go to the United States. I mean I could sneak away but mum would be so heartbroken and what about the company.." Niko mumbled.
Eventually realising that if her dad doesn't approve of her request it would be impossible for her to go to the United States with Shoto. She stuffed her head into the stuff animal and screamed.
"Why is life so unfair.." Niko grumbled as she lied down and placed her stuff animal to the side grabbing her phone.
She clicked into her chat with Todoroki and her fingers hovered above the call button wondering if she should call him and as if Todoroki read her mind her phone rang with his name showing up as the caller ID.

Epoch: An NPC's Tale
Epoch is a slow-burn LitRPG/Gamelit novel that tells the story of Luke, later named Lucius—a natural inhabitant of the game-like realm of Elyssia where thousands upon thousands of detached, virtually unkillable entities known as the Players were suddenly introduced right after the dusk of the magnificent Age of Heroes. Shortly after the Players arrived, the balance of power in Elyssia instantly shifted. Kingdoms fell, wars were waged, alliances between races were made, and Lucius, after ten years of training in captivity, found himself being used as a pawn in a prophecy that he had no intention to fulfill. With aspirations and desires of his own, Lucius must find a way to cautiously adapt to the drastic changes in the very foundations of the realm after being sent 300 years into a future that was forever altered by the outcome of the war that his captors had lost and the Players won in a victory that resounded throughout the ages, all for a terrible price. Author's Note As an avid fan of the LitRPG genre myself, I wrote this novel with character progression, heavy Gamelit elements, and some degree of world-building in mind. If you like these, please feel free to give this novel a try. Oh, and the MC is also an NPC, in a sense. And wait, isn't this also an isekai story? Well, it's all a bit complicated to explain here. Maybe you should start reading now?
