What good are wings,

Without the courage to fly?

***

There are several stories that compare and fit to my father.

As I read into the history of old legends and myths, I could see the similarities to the legends told within the pages, to that that my father had whispered to me at night.

The story of him.

Two stood out though.

The first was the story of the sun and moon.

How their creation came about, when they were angels of above, high glorious creatures that stood over generations. However as they watched, they soon saw the emotions that came about. Anger, sorrow, hope and above all- love.

The two angels noticed these strange passions of the creatures and saw that they to had these emotions inside of them.

It hit them then how much they loved the other.

And raw, pure love consumed them like the scorching fire that it is.

But the other angels found out.

Emotions were forbidden within their realm.

Though they created such things and granted them to humanity, they were not as blessed to be able to indulge in such thoughts.

Casting them aside, the other high beings turned the male angel, in all his glory- into the sun.

The female and her dark glow was thrown into the night- caged and locked their.

The two saw each other from the distance on each horizon.

And each time they chased the other, lovers constantly, and desperately hoping to reach out. To consume themselves in the passion that they once shared.

They rarely meet, and always chase, and almost always miss each other.

But when they are able to catch up to the other and kiss- the world stares in awe of their eclipse.

But that story that I read.

That was nothing more than a sad lust story.

For the sun spent his life chasing the moon.

But all she could give was the consuming darkness of night.

And then there is the other story.

The story that I can see within my father's eyes as he looks at the world and sees no color and light.

The story of Icarus.

Of how he flew to close to the sun.

Warned not to venture within the closeness of her light.

But what they don't tell you is this.

The moon can also blind you.

The moon can also melt the wings that Icarus flew upon.

What they don't tell you is this.

That Icarus laughed as he fell.

Laughed that he had soared so close to such a beautiful celestial object that hung within the night.

That he did not care, because he was able to touch her surface and see her goddess powers that captivated him from the start to dare even, to try.

What they do not tell you is this.

That Icarus grinned within his fall.

Threw back his head into the winds, arms spread wide and eyes open to all that surrounded him.

There is a bitter triumph in crashing, when you know you never once had a chance to win.

And as the moon scorched his skin, the hot wax of his wings burning into his back, thighs, legs and ankles.Feathers falling all around him within his silent prayer.

Death fell close upon him, breathing down within the moon's shadow as she painted everything around within her pale light.

For there is a certain beauty in watching your world go up in flames, knowing from the start you were never going to be saved.

I love all the artwork/effort I put into this chapter (appreciateee meeeee).

and just in case any were wondering this is what the second book cover would have looked like (if I had the motivation/brain power)

Don't forget to check out the song featured at the beginning (the album name is 'Atlas' it's so fitting).

This is styled in a journal entry format so don't let it confuse you.

ALSO! Important announcement- With the closing of one door, another shall open! As Moon Child comes to it's final chapters (last 10 or so eh), the opening to a new story is revealed! I'm posting chapters of 'A Crown of Bones' Tues-Thus now (please go check it out and see if you like it- even if you don't, at least go to admire the pretty art).

Thank you to all who have read this chapter! I could not have done any of this without the love and support shown :)

Until next time,

Loves,
