Jade Black is the youngest child of Billy and Sarah Black, this makes her the younger sister of the twins Rebecca and Rachel, and the younger twin by one minute of Jacob Black. Growing up, Jade loved swimming at the First Beach in La Push. This led her parents to signing her up swimming training.

Until tragedy struck when she and Jake were nine years old when their Mum died because of a horrible car crash. This led to the older twin girls leaving, making Billy look after himself and the youngest two twins. Not being able to handle the pressure, Billy sent Jade to his sister in Gold Coast, Australia.

Living in Australia, Jade pursued her dream of becoming a swimmer. This led her to meeting Emma Gilbert, who later introduced her to Cleo Sertori. When Jade was fifteen she met her new friend, Rikki Chadwick. That day changed the girls lives forever.

Jade is a stunning young woman with olive skin tone, which makes her tanner than her friends, long black curly hair that is up to her waist, dark eyes, and pink lips. She is also the smallest in her group of friends, and in her family, with only being five foot one.

Jade's appearance does not really change much when she is a mermaid. The only few differences that happen is that after being in contact with water for ten seconds, Jade and her friends grow long orange scaled-tails and a matching orange-scaled top. Their tails are covered in scales that end in a classic dolphin-shaped fluke. They also have a short dorsal fin running along the backs of their tails from their waists to a little more than halfway down their tail.

Jade's posses the natural abilities of mermaids and mermen.

- Merpeople are able to hold their breath for so long as they wish. They are known to be able to hold their breath for at least fifteen minutes before the need to surface. Merpeople lacks gills, except when infected with Fish Fever.

- Merpeople may have slightly enhanced senses suited to life underwater due to living in the sea. To sea born mermaids, land people smell horrible, even the average hygienic human emits this smell but only mermaids can detect it. However, they can get used to the smell.

- Merpeople are able to swim for days without exhaustion, something which no human has the stamina to do. They can dive at depths no human could withstand, even with submarines or the most expensive dive equipment.

is the ability that all merpeople are shown to have. It allows merpeople to swim at an incredible speed, and as such, their bodies is encased in bubbles.

- Depending on where they are born and raised, merpeople may be resistant to certain elements in that area.

Just like her friends, Jade has two special abilities which she received at Mako Island. Her first power is is the power to turn water and liquids in general into a jelly-like substance. Her second power is is the power to turn water and liquids in general into a substance similar to crystal or glass, rendering it nearly indestructible.

Other than her stunning looks and amazing powers, and the fact that she can change into a mermaid, another way to recognise who Jade is by her locket. Jade wears a Sterling Silver locket with a Provence Lavender crystal. The locket was made for her by her friend, Lewis McCartney, after her mermaid all had one and she was the only one left out. The lockets represent their mermaid secret.
