《1970》Chapter Twenty-Six: June 27th, 1970

Elora's point of view:
"What do you mean we're in danger? I thought it was just me and Flynn was helping," I asked my mother as we all spoke in David's kitchen. My arms were crossed along my chest as my mother and, to my surprise, Harry, stood at the breakfast bar. She had come here with Harry to tell us there was something the both of us missed.
"There's something more than what we thought. It was like the KKK knew you had killed those people before you knew they were after you. Remember how there were those few weeks where we heard nothing from them and we all thought you had gotten away with it? Well, that isn't what happened. They've been after you much longer than you thought," my mother explained. I had nothing to reply as fear washed over me. I was in twice as much trouble that I thought I was in, and that was more than enough to want to faint. Not to mention I may have a baby on the way.
"They've been watching you, the both of you. We went looking into this house of people that killed for the Klan. No one was in there, save the dead body of Julius," Harry replied to us. That was when I snapped into the conversation. I knew that name, I knew that man.
"Julius? Your friend from the fair?" I asked. Harry nodded solemnly and ran his hand through his long hair, as if he was about to cry. "I'm sorry about that," I added.
"Anyway, Hilda found plans to take you and Flynn away. They've waited to prey on you, to track your patters so they can get you by surprise. They have a date in which they're going to grab you, and that's tomorrow night," Hilda said to us. Flynn's eyes went up and his back straightened. He stood from his chair and went to my side, holding my waist and hand.
"I have to get us out of here," Flynn said, "there has to be a place." That was when my mother shook her head and walked closer to us, her arms crossed along her chest as she looked at us with a motherly and concerned expression.
"There's nowhere you can go. This is so much bigger than we ever imagined. It spans more than just America, Elora. I saw the papers. They have plans to take you both out of the country. To Europe to be exact," my mother explained. I was almost catatonic. I couldn't speak, I couldn't think. All I could do was stand there and try not to cry my eyes out and think of how horrible it would be if I found out I was having a baby and then kidnapped by the KKK. I was silently praying to God that I wasn't having a baby, that I didn't have to have my heart broken when they would undoubtedly take my baby away. There was no way any part of me would be able to stand that.
"What'll happen to us there?" Flynn asked. My mother shrugged and ran out of things to say. We didn't know what would happen to us. And as I dug my face into Flynn's chest softly, I felt my eyes begin to water with fear.
"We have no idea. All we know is that we have to get you out of here. They could be listening in to us right now. Or at least have a bug placed in here. David, I'd instruct you to find your wife and stay with her. Or one of your kids. It isn't safe for anyone here," Harry said to all of us as my mother couldn't say another word. She seemed to be just as traumatized as I was. I wanted my dad with me, the both of them. It wasn't natural to have just my mother. I wanted my dad around to help, he was always there to help me. Even if he was incapacitated. Why wasn't he here with me now?

"Where will we go?" I asked.
"I have a place. I won't say where it is now just in case. But I have somewhere we can go," Flynn said. I looked to him as he held me in his arms, and he stared off at everyone else in the room. He always seemed to have a way for us to be safe again for a little while. Even if it only lasted a few days. Still, this was no way to be for the rest of our lives, not with all that was happening. It just wasn't stable enough, not nearly balanced.
"Go to that place. I'll follow you to make sure no one else is. Don't worry, as long as you have a place to go, I may be able to help. I just have to see what I can and cannot do. If Julius were here he could tell us something, but we have to figure it out ourselves," Harry said to us. I nodded and everyone else just stood completely still. No one could contain how scared they were, except for David who kept his composure at all times, which I knew had taken quite a lot of practise and experience.
"I'll be going somewhere as well. Don't worry, I'll come into contact as soon as I can. You all go now, there isn't much time," David said to us. We all agreed that he was right, and with that, Flynn and I got ready to leave once again for a place I didn't even know existed.

Jack's point of view:
I was completely paranoid. Hilda had vanished, and even though she told me where she was going and who she was with, I was still afraid. Emmaleigh had come home in a fit, explaining to me that everything was bigger than we thought it was and Elora was in more trouble than we could ever imagine. Her saying this in itself was enough to drive me up the wall with worry and a desire to track down this whole organization and light them on fire, watching as they burned for trying to hurt my daughter. However I couldn't, I didn't even know where to start, and I could barely walk with my damn leg not being there anymore.
I had Emmaleigh and Max to keep me company for the last few days. Lorelei and Mihn came over with Evelyn every once in a while, and so did Carina and Peter with Camila. Jacob was here but hardly present, so busy with Rebekka and Percy. I didn't mind though, he was fine on his own for a while. He was actually trying to start a life where he could support his son. That was enough to keep me alright with him not being there all the time.
Right now, Max was the only one with me. Emmaleigh was actually sleeping for once, not having it for the last few days because of anxiety for her sister, mother and boyfriend. Speaking of him, I didn't really like that boy. If he managed to stay friends with a man who killed people because of their race, then he wasn't all that good in my books and didn't exactly show a lot of promise. Emmaleigh ignored it for the most part, and I was too exhausted to keep bothering her about it.
Max and I were having a drink in the living room, sitting there in silence as we took in the sunlight of today. The weather was all we had to not rip our hair off with worry. The air in the room was frightfully disturbing, sitting there like that. Max and I were never this quiet together, so uncomfortably. We always had something to talk about and it was great that way. Now that things were darker than ever, we had nothing else to say to each other. Both of us just sat there, even though we weren't mad at each other, our anger at the world drove us away.

Just as I was about to say something I knew was totally unimportant, my front door was opened forcefully and a woman walked in. Not just any woman, it was Molly, foaming at the mouth with anger. Her tiny body looked like it was filled with flames and the blood of her enemies as she stormed into my home. Both Max and I stood from our seats and watched as she went up to her much larger husband. It was then that she pushed on his chest and made him step back a little in offence.
"You son of a bitch!" She shouted at him. I stood there in the background like an idiot as Max took the wrists of his wife and stopped her from hitting him. He probably barely even felt it, but she needed to calm down and I didn't think I would be much help with that.
"Molly, stop, please," Max replied. She ignored his request and slipped out of his grasp, her hands flying free as she punched him hard in the shoulder. He winced, which was quite the surprise to me. Molly must be unnaturally strong for her size if she can make Max wince in pain.
"Me stop?! How about you stop?! Stop hiding your past from everyone! It was fine before but now your whore is coming back to haunt you, isn't she?! And the two children you had that you neglected to tell me about!" Molly screamed at him like I wasn't even in the room. I didn't know what to say to any of this, so I kept standing there like I didn't have anything else to do. Why was I not leaving the room?
"Molly, I---"
"Don't 'Molly' me! What is there for you to say or explain?! I read your journal, Max! I know everything! So don't tell me that's not true because I know it is! This Giselle woman is no fictional character. And you have two children, Rein and Rebekka! One of which is currently sleeping with your son, Jack!" Molly shouted at me. Her eyes went to me and she glared. So it was now safe to say she knew about Max and Giselle. Well, there wasn't a lot to know. He hadn't seen her even if he knew she was around.
"Hey, don't bring me or my son into this. It isn't his fault, and it isn't her fault either. She didn't mean to be born and Max didn't mean it either. I'm sorry Molly, I love you, but I can't let you talk about my son like that," I said to her. I didn't blame her for being this upset, I would be too if I found out that Hilda had these two children with a man I didn't even know she was with at one point. Thank God I was the only man she ever had. I didn't even have to worry about past lovers, she didn't have any!
"I'm not blaming Jacob or Rebekka, but you knew about this and you didn't even think to tell me! Why would you just keep that to yourself?!" She asked me. I shrugged and stepped a little closer to Max and Molly. My arms were crossed along my chest as looked at her with a matter-of-fact expression.
"Max is my best friend. And although I am close with you, I was best friends with him long before I met you. Max asked that I say nothing, so I didn't say a word. It was up to him whether to tell you or not," I replied. Molly was beside herself with this seething anger and her newly made frustration for the choices I had made. The girl was the wife of my best friend, I respected and got along with her most of the time. But she had no right to tell me I couldn't keep a secret for my best friend, no matter how much of an asshole it made him look like.
"I can't even look at either of you. I am going home, Max, and you won't be seeing me there when you get back," she replied. Max was about to tell her to come back but she stormed out of the house and slammed the door behind her. There was a few seconds of silence before she ran back in again, slapping Max in the face. I had to admit that the surprise of it made me jump.
"How could you do this to me? To our children? How do you think they're going to react when I tell them that I'm not with you anymore because you have this secret life? Do you really think they'll accept it the way that Jack did? I don't think so," she said to him in a hushed tone. Max looked totally discouraged and I stood there again in the background, thinking of what she said.
Even as they both sulked, I was brought to my own thought. An idea that popped into my head that wouldn't leave. It was like it kept stabbing at me like a serrated knife. That thought was why I wasn't helping my child right this second. Elora was out there without any sort of assistance from me, and I promised her that I would help if she needed anything. This was dire, and here I was watching my best friend and his wife fight until they had nothing more to fight about. That was enough to tell me that I couldn't just stand here anymore.
"I have to go," I said to the both of them. Their heads turned and watched me in confusion as I went to grab my car keys in the bowl beside the door.
"What do you mean? Where are going?" Molly asked, turning her attention away from Max for a few seconds. I didn't know how to explain to her my moral epiphany. All I knew was that I had to go and find my daughter to keep her safe.
"I have to find Elora and help her. You two can leave whenever you want, I just---I'm sorry, I have to go," I said to them. Both of them remained silent as I took the keys, left the house with only the money I had, and drove away. It was such a snap decision that I didn't even remember to pack clothes. I'd buy some when I arrived there. I had to go, that was all I had in mind.

Jack's point of view:
The day after, I arrived at David's home in New York. I ran out of the car, well, what an amputee would count as that, and knocked furiously on the door. As the door opened and was answered by Hilda, I couldn't contain my heart skipping a beat when I saw that beautiful face of hers. Her eyes widened as she saw me at the door, an expression of confusion on her face.
"Jack? What are you doing here?" She asked, exasperated. I went into hug her tightly, and she embraced me back. We kissed once, softly and desperately as if we hadn't seen each other in years. She then let me inside the house and shut the door.
"I had this revolution. Max and Molly were fighting, like, really fighting. It made me think of how I was there and you and Elora were here. I couldn't just wait there anymore, I had to come and help," I explained to her. She seemed to be completely amazed that I was even here at all.
"Jack, I don't know what to say. I mean, I love that you came here. But Elora and Flynn aren't here anymore," she replied to me. I stopped in my steps as we came to the living room. Elora was gone? Where had she gone? Hilda told me she would be staying there for a while until Flynn figured something out. Had he found out how to save them both that quickly? They had barely been here a few weeks!
"What do you mean they aren't here? I thought they were staying here?" I said. She shook her head and walked closer to me, her hands gently taking my shoulders and holding them. I loved her touch like I loved the idea of heaven. She was paradise in itself, and I often wondered how I would ever be able to live without her. I didn't think of it for long because I always realized that I would never be able to live without her in my life.
"They were being watched, Jack. Both of them, not just Elora. David left too, I just came here to grab him some things while he stays with some people until this all blows over. I was on my way to a hotel with Harry," she replied. Harry was with her still? I didn't even know he was even with her at all in David's home. Now he was part of this and I would have to deal with him. I knew that I wouldn't be able to avoid him, Hilda wouldn't allow me to be uncivil with him.
"So where are Elora and Flynn now?" I asked. She shrugged her shoulders and took her hands off my shoulders. Her face went down and she sighed, as if she was frustrated that she had no idea where Flynn and Elora had gone. This was understandable, I was upset too.
"I don't know. Flynn just told me that she would be safe. I'd like to find out though, so Harry is following them. He says it's to make sure they're alright, but mostly it's because I want to know where he's taking her," she replied. My thoughts were to laugh but I couldn't in these circumstances. I had to applaud her sneakiness when she wanted to use it. Not to mention I found it pretty justifiable. I always wanted to know where my daughter was, no matter who she was with.
"We better go find them, then," I said. Hilda nodded and stood on her toes to kiss and hug me. I held her close to me to keep her balanced in the air.
"I'm glad you're here," she said to me.
"So am I," I replied.

Divinity
“Let an old warrior caution you, there are parts of every tale that are not told. The part where none of those mighty champions died peacefully in their beds. The part where the hero meets their end surrounded by the enemy and in horrible agony. They were alone in their final moments and unsure if their sacrifice would bear fruit. I do not want that for you.” The Heavens created the Realm of Man and saved it from the eternal silence of the Void - once. Centuries later, humanity’s unity has fractured beneath the weight of time and the whims of man. Raegn Edelgard fights on in his home of Bastion, one of two everlasting fortifications to protect the Realm from the remnants of the darkness that still persist. When the Void wakes once more the Realm questions if the first war was ever really won…and if they might be saved again. Raegn is left searching for purpose and must navigate through a world teetering on the brink of extinction. 8 211Witch Hunt. A Warhammer Fiction
The adventures of Adebar von Bolstedt continue!Adebar von Bolstedt, fugitive noble scion of the Empire, stuck in the Great Forest of Talabecland, is gravely wounded by the bestial denizens of the dark wintery woods, only surviving due to the timely arrival of aid and relief in the form of the masters of this land. What begins as a pleasant stay with the wild noblemen of Talabecland soon becomes a matter of faith and tradition as old as the Empire itself, when he finds himself trying to root out a coven of witches from a society that prides itself on rural living and knowledge of the mysteries of the wild. This quest will either see von Bolstedt's shaken faith in his own god reforged into an intolerant blade, or shattered like ice. Word from the AuthorGreetings! Witch Hunt plays out in the much beloved Warhammer Fantasy setting (owned, of course, by Games Workshop). Do not fret, however, as I've made it a point to make the story digestible even to the uninitiated, and maybe even be a good introduction to the setting. This is the second part of the adventures of Adebar von Bolstedt, as such I recommend reading part one, titled "The Hand of Sigmar" first. While I cannot claim the places, concepts and gods etc. mentioned within as my own, the story and all characters flowed from my own fingers.
