《Affection || Lee Know》하나 - Online Dating

"SIT DOWN PLEASE!" I said loudly to my class of 7 year olds, all of whom were being restless this afternoon.
After a few seconds they were all quiet and sitting down, their books put in front of them just as the bell went.
"Now you can go." I said, and they did, getting up from their seats, most of them leaving with a 'Goodbye Miss Wang!' or a 'Have a good weekend Miss Wang!', before going out to meet their parents in the playground out front.
I put on my coat and followed the children out, making sure their parents picked them up.
I caught sight of Dami, one girl in my class who is very good at sport, going home with a mysterious man who I'd never seen before.
I hurried over to her, taking the man's hand off her and asking him quietly what his relation was to her.
"I'm her father." He replies and my eyes met his.
He had a defined nose and a sculpted jaw, his exposed arms were muscular but not buff. He was very handsome and I could feel my cheeks heating up as I stared into his eyes.
"Dami- darling," I said, squating down to her height, "Is this man your father?"
"He's my daddy." Dami said.
"How come I've never seen you before sir? I can't just let children go off with an unknown-"
"I know, but I've been busy." He said, cutting me off rudely. He stared at me as if he knew everything and I was just some useless teacher, which I sure I am sometimes.
"Well alright then sir, I suppose you should get going, sorry for the inconvenience." I said through my teeth; why was he so rude?
He grabbed Dami's hand again and they walked off site.
That night, I ate alone, my microwaveable dinner turning cold because I went to the toilet and it had already cooled down a lot, what a bugger.
I sat down to do some marking when I got a phone call from a mysterious number.
Thinking it could be serious, I picked up the phone...
"Hello?"
"It's Lee Minho, Lee Dami's father, I'd like to speak to you about the treatment of my daughter. I believe she shouldn't be in a school where a teacher can be so rude-" He started and carried on, probably not knowing that I had the school phone for the weekend, picking up all sorts of calls from complaints to deliveries.

After he finished ranting about me, though I had only been doing my job, I spoke;
"I'm sorry to hear that, I'll make sure Lee Dami gets the best education from now on, I'm sure this teacher will be reprimanded." I said, my voice as concerned as earlier, and from the silence on the end of the line, I knew I'd shut him up.
He hung up swiftly and I smiled to myself, knowing I had won this 'fight', though it was so petty.
Knock knock.
Who's knocking on my door at 9pm on a Friday night?
I switched the sound off my TV and went to open the front door of my apartment.
"Hello-" I asked and saw Changbin.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, my step-brother stepped inside my apartment.
"Dad wanted me to check on you, how are you?" He asked, getting a drink from my fridge.
"I'm fine, wh- why did he ask you?" I asked, "Why didn't he just call me?"
"I was in the area, don't worry about it."
Changbin pushed through to my living room before turning on the TV so we didn't have to speak to one another.
Changbin and I have never really gotten on.
Dad and I were close before he fell for Changbin's mother after my mum died when I was little. Dad had neglected me, spending all his time and money on his new family.
Changbin's a year older than me, and you'd think the closeness in ages makes us friends, but we were hardly.
We only get on if we have to, we're civil and that's about it.
We sat in silence for an hour or two before I went to bed, brushing my teeth and changing into pyjamas before sleeping, not really caring if Changbin stayed the night or not. He was quiet and clean so it didn't matter.
The next day, I woke up to go food shopping because I never had anything to eat and I had been running off ready meals for almost a month.
Changbin left a note, using my sticky notes from the office, saying;
I left at about 7, you were still asleep
Have a good day.

"How kind." I said, putting the note in the bin before I left my apartment, still wearing my pyjamas bottoms.
I went to the local shop, grabbing a trolley and buying enough food to last me a couple of weeks.
When I got to the checkout, my mouth dropped.
There was the rude as hell parent, buying what looked like it could be alcohol but I wasn't sure.
He didn't see me, I think, thank god, he's bash me even more if he had seen me wearing purple and pink striped pyjama bottoms out and about.
I got home, putting my food in the cupboards before going out on a run, which wasn't exciting but I had to keep fit somehow.
I got back towards lunchtime, and now it was the time of day to sit online for maybe 10/15 minutes and look at my online dating profile.
I'm 25 and I've never had a serious relationship.
Yes. I resorted to online dating.
YOU HAVE A MATCH!
"Who is this?" I asked myself, looking at the profile picture. He seemed about my age, maybe a year or two younger. He looked cute, so I decided to chat, it probably wouldn't end up being something.
~
Hey. I'm Annie
I know, I can tell by your username
Hello to you too
Sorry, work's been hard.
We got off on the wrong foot, I apologize
Nice to know you're decent
So where do you work
I'm a dancer
That's cool, what style?
Mostly urban and hip hop
Ooh, I'll have to see your moves if we get the chance
I'd love to show you
Ok mister, it's only been 2 minutes
Well, who knows
Who knows
Exactly!
~
I laughed as I texted this guy called Hyunjin, he was funny and interesting. He talked about his dog, Kkami, and sent pictures.
I busted an UWU.
After 30 minutes of texting, I realized how long I spent talking to him over all the other douche-bag men who,
1. Couldn't be bothered to text back
2. Blanked me for days on end
And 3. Never asked me out on a date after weeks of talking, but I still decided to carry on talking with him.
~
So where do you work?
I'm a junior school teacher, I work with 6-7 year olds
Awww, I love little kids, is it fun?
Fun but also tiring
Must be, they're so hyper all the time. It probably drains you
Correct. But dancing does too
In different ways
Hyunjin? I've got to go, my brother's calling me.
It's all good Annie, I'll text you later Alright?
Alright, bye Hyunjin
Bye Annie
~
When Jackson called me, I was secretly super disappointed even though I love my brother, just because my conversation with Hyunjin was going so well.
"Yo bro, what's up?" I asked, hearing heavy breathing.
"Umm? Hello?" I asked again.
"Sorry- Bam was chasing me with a nerf gun. Dad wanted me to check up on you." He said.
"Changbin already came over yesterday, why does he want everyone checking up on me? I'm doing fine, can't he ring me himself?" I asked, sort of angrily.
"Changbin came?" He asked.
"Yeah, awkward as hell. But it was alright in the end. Where are you now?" I asked, knowing he was on tour with his group.
"We're in Toronto now, we have a show in a few hours, so it's just a break of a rehearsal now."
"I'll see you when I see you then oppa." I said, smiling because Jackson, my full brother, my REAL brother, actually cared about what I had to say, rather than Changbin who didn't give a fuck but only did it because Dad probably paid him.
"See you soon Annie!" He said, as I hung up.
I decided against texting Hyunjin right back because I wanted to make him wait, not give him too much too early in the game.
I got out my marking of Year 4 Art books before turning on the TV and working for almost 4 hours.
"Goodnight Mum..." I said to my picture of both my mum and I on my bedside table, "I hope you're doing ok."
