《havoc | bellamy blake (book two)》20 | to protect you

After Jovie had pulled herself together, she figured she had to find Raven. She hadn't been there for her friend too much lately, so she had to make up for it now. She knew Raven was going to be hurting, so as much as she wanted to just close herself in, she pushed herself to find the brunette.
Jovie's hands tightened into fists when she found Raven silently kneeling next to Finn's body. Her fingernails dug into her skin to keep herself from crying. Jovie didn't say anything as she slowly knelt next to Raven, and Raven didn't say anything either. They both knew words wouldn't be enough. Just being in each other's presence was enough comfort for the two stubborn teenagers.
It wasn't until Clarke came over that Raven finally spoke.
"Go away," she mumbled.
"Raven, I'm sorry," Clarke said. Jovie glanced over at Clarke solemnly. She knew Clarke did what she did to help Finn, so he wouldn't have to suffer, but it still didn't make it easier. She also knew that Clarke was hurting too. She loved Finn.
"I said, go away!" Raven cried out as she stood to her feet to get in Clarke's face.
"I know how hard this must be for you, but I'm leaving with the Grounders, and I need you to keep working on the radio," Clarke said.
Two Grounders took Jovie by surprise as they pushed past her to grab Finn's body.
"Hey, stop!" She went to fight them, but Clarke was quick to jump in.
"They need to take him now," Clarke said.
"Like hell they do. Get off," Raven spat as she shook Clarke's grip from her arm.
"What the hell is going on, Clarke?" Jovie demanded.
"Give us a minute. Please," Clarke said. "Raven, Jovie."
"You agreed to this?" Raven choked out.
"We're taking him back to the village where the massacre took place," Clarke told them. Massacre. Jovie hated to think of it that way, but it was true. Finn had done a horrible thing and he was paying for it. They were all paying for it. "There's a death ritual. It's the only way to get our people out of Mount Weather."
"Then I'm coming too," Raven said.
"Me too," Jovie added. There was no way they were doing this without her. She needed to be there for Finn and she needed to be there for Raven too.

"And don't worry, I'll bring your damn radio," Raven said before storming away. Clarke let out a sigh. Jovie walked over and stood next to her as she gave the Grounders permission to take Finn away. Jovie didn't think there was anything she could say that would make Clarke feel better, but she wanted to let the other blonde know she didn't blame her.
"Finn would have understood," Jovie said quietly. "He knew what he was doing when he gave himself up. And you're just doing what he would have wanted. Raven's hurting. We all are. But we can't stop now, not while our friends are still in that place. So, I'm with you, Clarke. Whatever it takes."
Clarke had never doubted Jovie's loyalty, but it became even more apparent in that moment. The two blondes had a mutual respect for one another, and Clarke didn't think they would have gotten through as much as they did if Jovie hadn't been there to help push them through it. She tried to see the best in every situation, no matter how difficult that situation was. Clarke tried to do the same, but sometimes she struggled to see the good. In a world like theirs, that could be hard to do.

Jovie walked slightly behind Bellamy and Clarke as they made their way to Tondc. It's not that she didn't want to be around them, but she wanted some time to herself to think about what was going to happen. She was there when Finn killed all those villagers. She couldn't help but feel nervous.
She was still close enough to hear their conversation though and it was one that piqued her interest.
"You did the right thing," she heard Bellamy say.
"Now I get to live with it," Clarke said. Jovie frowned at the blonde's words. Each day it seemed like there was something more that they were finding themselves having to live with. "You still think this truce is a bad idea, don't you?"
"I think we're wasting time with politics while our friends are in trouble," Bellamy said. Jovie agreed with that to an extent. She knew they were only making their friends wait, but she didn't think trying for peace with the Grounders was a waste of time.
"We need their army to get to Mount Weather, Bellamy, and you know it," Clarke told him.
"Their army has been getting their ass kicked by Mount Weather forever." That was something that said a lot. Jovie had to wonder how dangerous these people were if the Grounders couldn't even beat them. "What we need is an inside man. Someone to be our eyes and ears." Jovie looked up as she heard him suggest the idea. She would be lying if she hadn't thought of it herself, but the fact that Bellamy was saying it meant something. Bellamy wouldn't put anyone in that kind of position if he didn't think there was another way. She just had a bad feeling she knew who he had in mind.

"Forget it. It's too dangerous," Clarke said.
"Clarke, if you can make it out, I can make it in," he told her. Jovie bit her lip at the thought of Bellamy going in there alone. Even she knew it was risky. But maybe if he weren't alone it wouldn't be as bad.
"I said no," Clarke said more sternly this time.
"Since I don't take orders from you, I'm gonna need a better reason," Bellamy said.
"I can't lose you too. Okay?" Clarke finally said. Jovie didn't feel at all jealous when she heard Clarke's words. She knew how Clarke meant it. Bellamy was important to all of them. He had been the delinquents' leader when no one knew what else to do. He inspired them and they could not lose him. She could not lose him.

By the time that they got to Tondc it was dark out. Jovie felt her nerves as they reached the village. She remembered the massacre too clearly. She just forced herself to push past it.
It was clear that her people were trying to stay away from the Grounders as they set their camp up on the opposite side. She understood why they did it. They still didn't trust the Grounders, but that would have to come with time. When she found Clarke starting to set up closer to the Grounders, she picked up her stuff and moved over to where she was.
"Clarke," Jovie said quietly. She had spent the rest of the walk thinking about what Bellamy had said. She had made up her mind and wanted to tell Clarke. "I heard you and Bellamy talking... about getting someone on the inside, getting him on the inside. Maybe he's right, Clarke. But I will not let him do that alone, so if he goes, I go too. I can be a distraction, figure out how to get to our friends while he figures out a way to get you guys in."
"No, Jovie," Clarke said immediately. "You and Bellamy are too important. It's too dangerous."
"I know it's dangerous, but what if this is the only way?" Jovie pointed out. "We need to consider all options." Clarke frowned as she listened to Jovie. It was the last thing that Clarke wanted to do, but it was possible that Jovie had a point.
"Jo, Clarke, it's safer on our side," Bellamy then said, ending the conversation about Mount Weather.
"We need to trust them, Bellamy," Clarke reminded him.
"And they need to trust us," Jovie added. She set up her spot a couple of feet next to Clarke, on the other side of the fire.
"There are no more sides," Clarke said. Bellamy sighed before walking over to where Jovie was set up. He placed his blanket next to hers before laying down. Jovie turned onto her side as he did the same to her until they were facing each other.
"How are you doing?" Bellamy asked softly as he tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. He knew that Jovie was thinking about everything that had happened here. As much as she hated to hold onto the past, it was something she could never get rid of.
"I don't know," Jovie answered honestly. "But if this is what we have to do to make sure no more of our friends die, then we have to do it."
"You know no matter what happens, I'm doing it to protect you," he said. He wasn't saying directly what he meant by that, but she already knew what he meant. He just didn't know that she had her own plan.
"I do everything I do to protect you too, Bell," she whispered. He stared at her for a second before leaning in to kiss her. He never imagined that when he snuck onto the drop ship that this would have happened. He simply came to Earth to protect Octavia, but here he was, loving a girl so much that it sometimes scared him. But it was also something he would never give up.
