《Prince's Assassin Mate ✔》Chapter 44

"How dare you even desire of having what's mine!" Eldrid growled, increasing the pressure on Victoria's throat.

"Eldrid!" The lycans and wolves gasped and lowered their heads as a deep growl rattled the entire hall.

"Release her! Now!" He growled as he moved closer to her, but her grip remained firm.

"Release her, Mate!" He growled again, but Eldrid continued to suffocate Victoria. Aiden was behind her with huge strides and roaring once more.

"Didn't you hear what I said, Eldrid!" "Release Victoria now!" he said coldly. Deep growls emitted from his chest, but Eldrid's grip remained resolute. Aiden growled through gritted teeth as his hand gripped Eldrid's neck from behind, and in a symphony of his touch, her grip on Victoria's throat loosened, allowing her to breathe. Eldrid's head cocked slightly.

"You say your first words to me in days, and they are to command me!" She said it in a deadly calm tone. Aiden's chest rumbled in growls once again.

"Take your hands off of her!" His voice became louder, but it did nothing to persuade Eldrid to release the grip of Victoria's neck. Aiden's grip on the back of Victoria's neck tightened, and Eldrid's fingers loosened, causing Victoria to fall to the ground. Victoria landed with a thud on the floor, coughing and breathing heavily. Aiden relaxed his grip on her neck, and she turned to face him. Her body was gradually transforming into her demon form, and her eyes were becoming darker and darker with each passing moment.

"Why do you do this to me?" she asked, her voice cold and calm.

"Why do you grow so cold and distant after the warmth you provide me begins to soothe my soul?" He didn't say anything; he just stared at her, his cold eyes piercing her flesh.

A ring of gold swirled in his globes, and veins swelled up from his neck. He was agitated, his beast at bay. He was willing to hurt her for what she had done, which provoked her even more.

"Why?" She growled and he grabbed her neck and slammed her against the wall. Her eyes hardened, and bloodlust began to seep into her beasts.

"Don't you dare question me after what you've done to me, Eldrid!" his canines protruded from his gums. His eyes were filled with so much hate and hostility, that astounded her.

"What are you talking about?" She inquired "Everyone! Out now!" He commanded, and the hall was empty in a minute.

"You! Because of you, I lost the only person for whom I lived!"

His words only added to her confusion.

"You are the assassin who assassinated him, aren't you?" his voice dropping to a deadly calm tone.

"Who?" She asked

"You have the audacity to even ask me that!" He growled

"Yes I do, and I'll ask again. Who?" She inquired once more.

"My brother! You are the one who assassinated my only brother!" He yelled, and his words shocked her.

"What exactly did he do wrong? He was so young, with his whole life ahead of him, and you killed him in cold blood!" He went to yell, and she just stared at him, baffled.

"You don't even remember do you?" He said coldly

"No, but I never assassinated a Prince, I know that!" she grumbled.

"I saw you that day when you were fleeing! 6th July 1901, Manhattan Island. Does it ring a bell, mate?" She kept staring at him, unsure what to say.

"I saw you that night as you fled after murdering my brother. You stared at me with your glowing red eyes. Those eyes have tormented me to this day! You have no idea how badly I desired your blood! But look at the Goddess's cruelty! She paired me with the person I'd been searching to kill for years!" He said those words with such venom that it made her skin crawl! It did, however, bring back some memories. Memories of a juvenile standing on a castle balcony, staring at her with wide eyes.

Flashback:

"Arnfinn!"

"Return here!"

"Arnfinn!" The juvenile yelled once more as the young boy ran around the dim hallway, giggling

"Father will arrive at any moment! Arnfinn, come back here!" He asked the boy again, but he was unmoved.

"Please, just a little longer, brother!" He asked, but his brother stood with his arms crossed

"It's time for you to go to bed. And if father sees you running around this late, he won't be pleased. Let's go!" He said sternly, and Arnfinn huffed and yielded. The brother extended his hand, which Arnfinn accepted. The juvenile led his younger brother into his room and tucked him under the warm duvet.

"Now make sure I don't find you outside of this duvet!" With a solemn expression on his face, he scolded and Arnfinn giggled.

"Okay!" He said

"Good night!" The juvenile said good night and exited, turning off the lights.

He was sitting behind his desk in his room, going over papers his father had given him to peruse. He was being groomed to be the next King, and the weight of responsibility was already weighing heavily on his small shoulders. He sighed as he placed the papers on the table and leaned back in his comfortable chair. When he looked out the window, he noticed the full moon glowing brightly in the night sky. He rose from his chair and walked over to the adjacent open balcony.

Among the stars was the ever-present glow of the moon, that mother of the sky who kept a steady and true eye on every beating heart. He leaned against the balcony wall, closed his eyes, and felt the soft breeze flow through his hair, graciously tickling his skin. When a peculiar scent flowed into his nostrils with the wind, his eyes widened in confusion. He moved closer to the balcony's rim and took a look around. He noticed a dark silhouette in black clothing fleeing the castle. It turned its head slightly towards him, and he took a deep breath as its bright red eyes stared at him through its hood before disappearing into the darkness. What was it? He pondered.

His thoughts were cut short when he heard a high-pitched scream. He hurried out of his room's balcony and saw people running in the corridor towards his brother's chamber. As one of the many guards stopped in front of him, dread settled within him.

"Your Highness! Your younger brother!" The guard didn't have to finish his sentence since The Prince was already dashing towards his younger brother's chamber. He burst through the doors and saw blood all over the carpeted floor, and in the middle of all the blood was his one and only brother's lifeless body. He collapsed on his knees, shocked. Not a single word was uttered from him as everyone rushed around trying to help the deceased prince.

A lone tear fell from his left eye, and he wiped it away before anyone noticed. He knew who was to blame, and he will ensure that person pays with their life!

"I remember, I remember the castle. The screams and the boy in the balcony!" She began speaking softly.

"However, I've never assassinated a Prince."

"You dare lie!" he growled as she looked him in the eyes.

"You should have known better that, to believe me when I say I never lie!"

"I kill, torture innocent people, commit genocides, but I never lie!" She snarled, as his grip on her throat tightened

"Eldrid, I found the hood and apparel you wore that night! You were present on the night my brother was murdered. If you didn't commit the murder, why were you there in the first place?"

"I was sent there to assassinate someone, I forget who, but I never succeeded in getting to that person, and I never assassinated the Prince!"

"Stop telling lies! I know you were there!"

"I never stated that I wasn't. I was present, but I never assassinated anyone, much alone your brother that night. I never accomplished my assignment. But you sought to believe Goddess knows what you were told or found!"

"You are supposed to he trusting me, though I suppose I never earned your trust. Treating with the same warmth you used to! Never lie to my face, but you did!" She began to tremble with indignation, her eyes darkening, and the demon within her became more perceptible.

"This hand was supposed to be raised to care for me, not to confine me. I never expected you to restrain me like an animal!" She snatched his hand away from her throat.

"You were supposed to be as devoted to me as I was to you. I never looked at another male after I met you, and you dared to choose someone else above me as yours!" Her voice grew rougher and deadlier with each word. A dark aura began surrounding her.

"But you did! And I will make sure you chosen pays!"

Fangs ejected from her gums, her eyes and hair darkening, her skin as pale as paper. The packhouse was subdued by the thunderclouds that stretched across the sky. Aiden realized what he had done; he had just sparked a demon's wrath, and it was now too late. He should have taken a different approach than simply pouncing on the demon.

"Eldrid! Calm down! This is not what either you or I really want!" He looked around, but it was too late. Eldrid's demon had taken complete control and would tear down everything in its path. Aiden kept calling her name, screaming it, but it fell on deaf ears. Eldrid's transformation was nearing completion when the doors slammed open.

"Seraphina!"
