《Together we howl》Part 13

Jacob's POV
I was frustrated and tired. I felt like I was constantly at Bella's beck and call, and yet, she refuses to acknowledge the obvious hatred between our tribe and the Cullens, though it was mostly all vampires that we despised. When Edward had left her, I was the one to bring her back to the person she was before the depression hit and yet, that no longer matters because he decided to stroll back into her life as if nothing happened.
It's funny, since the arrival of Hermione and Ginny, my focus hasn't been on Bella as much. Both girls provide us with a rare comfort that I had never really experienced, though it's more so Hermione who I feel radiates motherly love and care. Ginny is more like the sarcastic older sister who scares the shit out of everyone, yet they can't help but adore her.
So, of course, I was feeling pretty fucking angry and frustrated at the fact we had to leave them and their family, to meet up with none other than the Cullens. Bella had said that Victoria, who had been targeting Bella because Edward decided to kill her mate, has gathered a group of newborn vampires. We weren't sure what that had to do with us, but Bella insisted that we attend this so-called meeting, not that any of us were happy about it, of course.
We arrived at the edge of the forest, near a small road that no one ever drives down due to how deep it leads into the dark trees. We remained in our forms and I stood beside the wolf with a thick black coat... Sam. Due to Edwards's annoying ability to read minds, he's able to translate for us.
"I wouldn't call it annoying" Edward mumbled with his arms crossed over his chest. The others looked at him with slight confusion, but as I responded with a snort like sound, they dismissed any questions.
"Welcome, Jasper has experience with newborns. He can teach us how to defeat them" Carlisle announced, his tone as respectable and polite as normal. He and his wife, Esme, had always been the only ones we could somewhat get along with, they tend to not hold such dislike for our kind. Though I wouldn't blame them, since we are natural-born enemies.
"How are these... Newborns different from you?" Sam snarled through the mind link. Edward repeated the question to his family, who were all quiet and tense whilst Carlisle does all the talking.

Whilst the conversation was going on, I observed Bella. Why was I seeing her so differently? From the way, her face scrunched up in disgust when looking at us and the longing in her eyes when the vampires were showing off their inhuman strength. It wasn't hard to see that she wanted to be a vampire, it's also not hard to see how different Edward is behaving around her. Now that I think about it, they're all keeping their distance from her... Maybe they fought before arriving?
I shook away my thoughts when Sam growled to gain my attention, Jared and Paul had already disappeared, leaving Sam and me, along with the Cullens.
"Hi, Jake" Bella called out with a wave. I let out a small snarl and turned around, walking away with Sam not far behind. We wandered further into the woods until we came to a certain spot where we keep a spare bag of clothing. We shifted and began to dress, everything was quiet until it was broken by none other than Sam.
"What was that?" I raised my head and realised he was talking to me. I frowned in confusion, along with Jared and Paul who were completely unaware of anything that happened.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"You snarled at her" I hummed in acknowledgement. The truth is, I didn't know why I reacted that way, but it seems recently I've started to realise who the real Bella is, and honestly, I didn't like what I saw.
"I just want to get back to the house" I shrugged and began to walk away. They didn't question, there was no point, they already knew who's home I was talking about and from what I felt through our pack bond, they felt the same way.
It wasn't long until we arrived at the opening of their home, and the feeling of belonging and comfort struck me almost immediately. I jogged up the steps and opened the door, the smell of freshly baked cookies engulfed my scenes and my stomach let out a loud growl. Loud music could be heard from down the hall, and what we didn't expect was to find three, highly intoxicated females, dancing on the furniture with bottles of an unknown liquor.
"My wolves" Hermione shouted with excitement as she noticed us at the entrance of the family room. She jumped off the table and ran in our direction, immediately pulling us into an embrace one by one. Though, she snuggled against Sam's cheat and seemed quite content in his presence. Ginny was trying her hardest to get Paul to dance with her, so I decided to sit beside Luna, who was singing quietly to herself as she leaned back against the couch.

"Hello, Jacob. I hope that Bella girl didn't cause you too much frustration" My head snapped in her direction with shock. How had she known about our meeting with Bella? And how did she know I was feeling frustrated with her?
"Not to worry, I inherited some seer abilities and though I can't necessarily see the future, I get snippets of what certain actions could lead to. Also, feelings and thoughts aren't that hard to figure out" My eyes grew wider at her confession. It felt nice that she trusted me enough to reveal such a thing, though I'm not entirely sure she did that because of the alcohol or because she did truly feel comfortable enough.
"Don't be silly Jacob, of course, I trust you. Hermione is your Alpha female and she is like a sister to me, which means you are family to us" I couldn't stop the smile that formed on my face, my heart warmed at her words and for the first time in a long time, I felt wanted.
"Thank you, Luna, I needed to hear that," I said with a soft sigh. She nodded her head with a warm smile and held out an unfamiliar bottle. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion when reading the label.
"Firewhiskey?" She nodded her head with an angelic giggle.
"I'm not twenty-one yet" I announced with a shake of my head. Truthfully, I was nervous to try something unfamiliar to me, plus, I was never one for alcohol in the first place.
"That's quite alright, your secret will be safe with me. However, it's your choice, I won't pressure you" She reassured. It wasn't patronising, nor did it make me feel like I was pathetic for refusing. She sounded completely genuine, which is why I slowly took the bottle from her hand and raised it to my nose, taking a small sniff. My nose crinkled in disgust, making her giggle once again.
"You know, we have something called butterbeer, it only has a small percentage of alcohol and is served to students in Britain. It's delicious" I was shocked at the thought of students being able to drink something that even had a small percentage of alcohol but, to be honest, it sounded a lot more appetizing than this... Fire whiskey.
"I'll have some of that then" I responded with a smile, she nodded her head eagerly and quite literally, skipped into the kitchen. She returned shortly with a jug full and seven glasses, she poured the both of us one and left the rest in the middle of the table. I took a whiff and I was surprised at how sweet and bitter it smelt. I watched in amusement as she took a sip and when pulling the glass away, the froth left a moustache on her top lip.
"What?" She asked as she noticed my expression. I couldn't control the laugh that escaped my mouth, I gestured towards her lip and instead of wiping it away, she giggle and licked it off. I shook my head with another chuckle before hesitantly taking a sip, I could feel her eyes waiting eagerly for my reaction. As the liquid poured into my mouth, my eyes bulged at the unique taste. It was extremely sweet, too sweet for someone to drink regularly but it reminded me a lot of cream soda whilst the froth tasted like butterscotch. The combination was rather odd, but surprisingly, it worked.
"Fucking hell, that's good" a voice was heard from the other couch. I looked over and noticed everyone had a glass, the witches watched in amusement as we all looked at the drinks in awe.
"Where did everyone go?" Jared questioned with a frown, only noticing that the guests were no longer present.
"They needed to get back, they have work and families to be with" Hermione responded, sounding surprisingly sober.
We spent the rest of the afternoon getting to know each other better, they were more than willing to answer any questions we had about their world. We hadn't realised it had gotten so late until Luna fell asleep beside me, Hermione insisted that we spent the night and I was quite surprised to find there were eight bedrooms free.
Let's just say, that was the best sleep I had gotten in many years.

Vera was alone again. “You’re completely unprepared. Never before has sending one of you off made me feel quite so guilty.” Whenever she found herself in doubt, she would weigh her actions against the guiding principles of the one whom she revered. “When you don’t know the rules of the game, start making them up. When you are constrained by unfavorable conditions, inject a little chaos.” It was the supplementary message that concerned Vera the most. It was difficult to follow because it was intentionally vague and mired in subjectivity. “How can I enjoy myself when you look so tormented? Are we in danger?” Vera fell silent. An experiment is taking place on a planetary scale. Across the surface of the planet, a phenomenon referred to as "Blight" is spreading. Festering regions defended by fierce creatures called “blightbeasts” taint the surface, warping the land and proliferating unceasingly.
