"Hello...." John yawned.
"heeeeyyyy son" William smirked, "do you know what day it is?"
the highschooler stayed silent as he looked at his computer screen and looked at the date, "November 18th....."
"correct! soooo," John pulled the phone away from his ear just enough to still hear, "hAPPY BIRTHDAY"
"Thanks, dad." John put the phone on speaker and started getting ready for school.
"oh, by the way, there's a little surprise waiting for you at school." the older raven informed him.
John groaned, "Is that all?" as he buttoned up his shirt.
"almost, I paid for plane tickets back to New Bostin so we can celebrate with her"
A weak smile appeared on John's face, "wouldn't be a birthday without us visiting her" John chuckled.
"mhm, anyways, I'll text you the flight info."
"k"
"hmm... Have a good day at school son, I love you"
"love you too dad"
Awhile later John arrived on the quad, seeing Remi, Isen, Sera, Blyke, Arlo, and Elaine sitting on a bench with three open spots. He decided to ignore it and walk past them, not even glancing at them.
"BROO!!!!!!" a familiar voice yelled, a person hugging John.
"I swear, you'd never celebrate if it weren't for us" a different voice sighed.
The raven looked behind him and saw none other than Adrion and Claire.
"I-"
"come on, you dumbass." Adrion smiled, pulling him over to the table and sitting him down.
"we told them today was your birthday since we know you wouldn't" Claire chuckled, sitting down in an empty seat beside him.
"....Adrion I shouldn't be here, this is awkward."
".........cat"
John's eyes lit up as Adrion revealed a fluffy black cat with a collar reading "Gemini"

the fluff ball stumbled over to John, who appeared to be trying to restrain himself. though, he failed..... miserably.
the group laughed as John's cold demeanor broke.
"I talked to the headmaster and convinced him to let you keep the cat with you on campus" Arlo mumbled, looking away.
John's eyes flicked up to the blond then back to the cat.
"Thanks, Arlo" he smiled, the lack of sarcasm or anger in his voice honestly frightened the group more than John did when he was angry.
by then the once 'enemies' had fallen into a relaxing bit of conversation, not ever really having a set topic.
"What time is it?" John questioned.
"4:25, why?" Remi responded, placing her phone back on the table.
"oh fuck, I have to go. Sorry" John muttered, grabbing the cat and practically running back to his dorms, barely hearing the happy birthdays and goodbyes.
John hastily set Gemini up in his room, grabbed his suitcase(bitch always ready😌✨), and ran out the door.
~*~
About half an hour later, maybe more, John slept through the whole flight so what would he know, the raven arrived in New Bostin. His dad waiting outside the airport.
They hugged, William, saying happy birthday again, before heading to the car.
"It's been a while since we've been here together, huh?" William smiled, scanning the area as he turned left and approached a cemetery.
John hummed, "wasn't I like.... 15 the last time we did this?"
"Your guess is as good as any's." William chuckled, "do you remember how to get there?"
The birthday boy nodded and started leading the pair over to a spot of land on a hill.
"so, bIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!"
John laughed, "this always seems like such a weird place to celebrate a birthday."

"your mom made me promise to take you here whenever I could, especially on birthdays."
the two family members laughed and told stories, both of their goals being to make the other laugh despite the surrounding area.
"well... it's starting to get late, we should go home." William looked up at the sky and the gravestone, brushing some dust off it and whispering "I love you.... I'm sure John would've loved knowing you" under his breath.
the wind blew, a wave of comfort washing over the two.
"I love you, mom"
"I love you, sweetie"
"I love you too, my beautiful boys"

Journey of Infinite Steps
Science Fiction/ Low fantasy Iliad. Oliver just wanted a job that could keep his family fed, and himself sane. Was that so much to ask for? Apparently. As he instead ends up facing monsters and dodging his way to another world instead. Competent as he views himself figuring out how to reopen a portal back home by himself is defiantly above his knowledge base. Of coarse it would be vastly simpler if he could keep 'getting back home' as his primary goal. 'Staying alive' is unfortunately a far more immediate and relevant goal. I will post any content warnings on a Per Chapter basis. Divisive content will be as skip-able as I can reasonably manage Discord Link will be available for those interested in assisting editing/ coauthoring. Especially character writers/those willing to work out the math/ economies and world building even if only as a wall to bounce ideas off of.-----Full Synapsis contains serious spoilers----- Looking to take care of his family, Oliver finds himself flung into a faraway place. Try as he might, his Iliad will not be simple or peaceful as he'd like. Alas the slow and unending war of Chaos and Order has long memories and longer reach. If Oliver is to make his way back home it looks like He'll have to solve the universe one fight and mystery at a time. Especially as the Laws of Physics shift, often on a per world basis. Hopefully there is still a home to come back to.
