Daphne

It has been a month since I've moved in with Sam. Things have been great so far. I'm happy and I can tell that Cristian is too because he gets to see Dave every single day.

Right now, I was emailing my article for next month to my editor-in-chief. It was twelve o'clock in the morning and Sam wasn't home yet. He must have to work late again. He's been under so much stress because he lost a big client this week and there's so much paperwork to be done. I don't say anything to him about it because I don't want to upset him even more. The door opens and speak of the devil. It's Sam. He looks dead tired as he set his briefcase down. Sam walks towards the bathroom as he loosens his tie from around his neck. After I finished emailing my editor-in-chief, I went through my email and read a few while deleting half of them that should have been in junk mail. I hear the shower turn on and that let's me know that he's taking a shower.

When he finished his shower, he walks into the room with a towel wrapped around his waist. He goes to his dresser and pulls out basketball shorts. He slips out of his towel and puts on the shorts. He puts the towel in the hamper in the bathroom. He walks towards me, wraps arm around my neck, and kisses me on the cheek repeatedly until I started giggling.

"Someone is in a good mood," I said.

"Well someone finally managed to acquire a majorly important client that will make his company prosper even more in the future," He murmured.

"Sam, that's great. I am so happy for you," I smiled.

"Thank you," He smiled back.

"You're welcome," I nodded.

"So what have you three been doing all day?" He asked.

"Well I took them to the park and we stayed there for three hours, I went grocery shopping, I visited Regina who told me today that she was pregnant, I visited my grandparents for a little while, and then I came home to finish up this article and email it to my editor-in-chief," I explained.

"Wow. You had a really busy day," He remarked.

"Yes I did and all I want to do is relax while my boyfriend gives me a foot massage," I looked at him.

"Sure," He chuckled. I turned and kissed his cheek before getting out of my chair. I sit on the couch and Sam sits a few inches away from me. He starts to massage my feet and let me tell you this, the man has magical hands. I was moaning from the feeling of his hands massaging my feet.

"So tomorrow, my father wants me to go play golf with him and a couple of his business partners and their sons," He informed me.

"Really? That should be fun," I murmured.

"It's about as fun as listening to Brian McKnight," He replied.

"What do you know about Brian McKnight?" I asked as he continued to massage my feet.

"Enough to know that his songs are slow and make me want to fall asleep," He answered.

"True," I agreed.

"Yeah," He said.

"Do you even know how to play golf?" I asked.

"Yes I do. Are you doubting my golf skills?" He queried.

"No, but what I heard so far from your mother, you sucked at baseball," I replied.

"Why did she tell you that?" He groaned.

"Because she felt like I, your girlfriend, needed to know," I smiled in amusement.

"Just like how your grandmother told me that when you were three, you used to run around the house with your shorts on your head, your shirt on your legs, and your socks on your feet," He replied. I narrowed my eyes at him and he burst into laughter.

"Shut up, Sam," I grumbled. I move my feet away from him and get up to go to the bathroom. I tied my hair up and then I took out my contacts then put on my glasses. Sam was watching me from the couch as I walked towards his bed. I was already in my pjs so all I had to do was hop into bed. I took off my shorts and set my glasses down onto the nightstand before getting under the covers.

"Daphne," Sam said. I ignored him and got comfortable. He sighed loudly before turning off the lights and hopping into bed with me. He wraps his arms around me and kisses my cheek. I rolled my eyes.

"Goodnight, big baby," He said.

"Goodnight, jackass," I hissed.

The next day, I was out at a cafe that was a few blocks away from Sam's office building. I was waiting for Sam to arrive so we could have our little lunch date. All I ordered was a sweet tea and that was it.

"Daphne," I heard a voice say. I looked up to see Fredrick standing before me with a very pretty girl with beautiful dark brown skin, shoulder length black hair, chocolate brown eyes, a heart shaped face, full and well rounded lips, low cheekbones, a slender but curvy figure, a nose piercing in her left nostril, and a septum piercing. She looked so damn pretty even with the piercings.

"Fredrick, oh my gosh. How have you been? I haven't seen you in almost a year," I tell him.

"I'm doing better than I was the last time we saw each other," He said.

"Why don't you and your very pretty girlfriend sit here and tell me about it," I said. The girl smiled at my compliment.

"Are you sure? We don't want to intrude," He tells me.

"It's fine, Fredrick," I assured him. He nods then pulls out a chair for his girlfriend who sits down. He pushes it in for her and she thanks him. He takes a seat right beside her.

"Where do I even begin?" He asked.

"How about after you called off the wedding?" I suggested.

"Oh right. Well after I walked out of the church, I drove back home to my apartment so I could just be alone for a while. I did exactly what I have been meaning to do for since I was a kid," He tells me.

"Which is?" I asked.

"Relax," He answered simply.

"Oh," I nodded.

"It wasn't until two hours later when my father called me. He was furious because I called off the wedding between Sidney and I. Mind you, we were only getting married for some type of company merger or something like," He explained.

"Wow. I had no idea," I said.

"Well Sidney didn't want you to know that the only way she could acquire a man was through a business deal," He murmured.

"Oh okay. Please continue," I tell him.

"He yelled at me and said that I was a disgrace for cancelling the wedding while my mother cried in the background. Long story short, my parents basically disowned me and my father fired me from the company that I never wanted to run in the first place," He explained.

"I am so sorry, Fredrick," I apologized.

"Don't be, Daphne," He shook his head.

"What about your apartment?" I asked.

"He kicked me out of it," He replied ever so calmly.

"So you were homeless, disowned, and unemployed?" I asked with worry in my voice.

"Wow when it comes from you, it does sound kind of bad," He rubs the back of his neck.

"Sorry," I mumbled.

"It's fine, but let me continue. I had some money saved up that my parents couldn't even touch at all in my own personal bank account. I didn't have to worry about not finding a place to stay or what yo eat next," He tells me.

"How much money was it?" I asked.

"Ten thousand," He replied.

"What the hell? Fredrick, ten thousand dollars?" I practically exclaimed. All eyes were on us and Fredrick's lady friend giggled while he looked embarrassed by my outburst.

"Exactly what I said," She smiled. I gave an apologetic smile to the other patrons before calming down.

"Anyways. I had ten thousand saved, but I knew that it wouldn't last in the long run. The first thing I did was check into a hotel that I could stay in for at least two or three nights while I looked for a job," He said, "I searched for at least three days until I came across this very well paying job at this department store called Strauss who I had interviewed for. It has decent pay and at least I am able to put food onto the table at night."

"I am so happy for your, Fredrick," I smiled softly.

"Thanks. I am too because if I hadn't received the job at Strauss then I would have never had met my beautiful fiance. Arabella," He murmured.

"You have such a pretty name," I complimented Arabella.

"Thank you, but Daphne is even more prettier than mine," She tells me.

"Thank you,' I nodded and I turned to Fredrick, "So how did you two meet?" Fredrick looked at her as if to say 'you want to tell the story'. Arabella clears her throat and I turned my attention to her.

"Fredrick and I met one night when it was raining, more like storming. It was around 7 o'clock in the evening and I had just walked in, wet clothes and all, so I could buy some dry and warm clothes to wear plus a raincoat and an umbrella," She explained. I chuckled.

"What else happened?" I asked.

"I went to his register to pay for the things and he told me that since I walked in here wet from the rain, he would give me his employee discount," She tells me.

"What did you do?" I questioned.

"I told him that it was fine and that I would pay for it, but he insisted until I finally gave in. After paying for my things, he told me to go change in one of the dressing rooms and put my things into one of the plastic store bags. I thanked him and changed out of my clothes. I threw them in that bag then I left," She said.

"Oh wow. How sweet," I smiled softly.

"I'm not finished just yet," She said.

"Oh Okay," I nodded.

"After he did that, the next day I went back, I was dry this time," Arabella said, causing me to laugh, "I had bought him some food from American Deli as a little token of my appreciation. He thanked me and asked me to join him. I agreed to it."

"After having lunch with her that one time, she dropped by my work place during my break every single day and vice versa. It wasn't until six months when I finally asked her out on a date. She agreed to it and I was so happy that she did," Fredrick spoke up.

"Three dates was all it took for me to realize that Fredrick was the only man for me," Arabella smiled at him. He smiled back then intertwined their fingers before kissing the back of her hand.

"How long did guys date? How long have you been engaged?" I questioned.

"We dated for six months and we have been engaged for two months," He answered.

"That's great, Fredrick. I am so happy for you guys," I tell them.

"Thanks, Daphne," He smiled.

"Sorry. I'm late. My meeting ran late," Sam said as he kissed my cheek. He sits down next to me and across from Arabella.

"Fredrick, how are you?" Sam greeted.

"I'm doing fine, man," Fredrick answered.

"That's good. Who might this be?" Sam looked over to Arabella.

"That's Fredrick's new fiance, Arabella," I answered.

"Good for you, man. I'm happy for you," Sam tells him.

"Thank you," Fredrick smiled.

"It was nice meeting you two. Especially you, Daphne," Arabella tells me.

"You too, Arabella," I agreed, " But before you go, let's exchange contact information." She nods and we exchanged numbers and emails before her and Fredrick walked away.

"Who knew that he'd find someone who would make him happier than Sidney ever could," He tells me.

"Me too," I nodded.

"I can tell that she makes him happy," He said, " Do you know why?"

"No, but tell me," I replied.

"He looks at her the same way I look at you," He tells me.

"Which is?" I asked.

"Which is as if you're the only girl in the world for me," He replied. I blushed and Sam kissed the tip of my nose.

"You're too sweet, Sam," I blushed again.

"I have to be for you," He smiled again.

"Yeah you do or else I'll break your balls," I gave him a sickly sweet grin.

"You are crazy," He tells me, "But I love crazy." I giggled.
