I was at home with Cristian on a Thursday afternoon. I was lounging around the house since I had finished the article for next month's issue. I had on a pair black basketball shorts, a black t-shirt, black socks, and my glasses. My face was make up free and I had my hair up in a low ponytail. Right now I was watching Save The Last Dance on Netflix, great movie by the way. As I was watching Sara and Derek dance together for the first time in the club, I hear my doorbell ring. I groaned lousy to myself then I got up to answer it. I got off the couch and slipped on my Adidas slides. I walked towards the front door and I unlocked it. I see my Mother standing there. I feel my expression turn blank as I looked at her.

"Daphne, I've told you about not letting guests into your house," She scolds. I hesitantly let her inside of my house. She walks in and I closed then locked the front door. She walks towards my living room with me quietly trailing behind her.

"Blanket thrown on the couch, dog laying on the couch, books scattered all over the coffee table, an empty mug on a coaster, and a empty, but used plate on the end table. Daphne, this is not healthy at all. How does Samuel even put up with this pigsty of a living room? I feel bad for the man especially since you have that dog," She said.

"What did you need?" I asked in a small voice. She turned on her heel to look at me with an excited smile on her face. I knitted my eyebrows together in confusion.

"I got you a personal trainer," She announced.

"A what?!" I half-yelled in surprise.

"A personal trainer who will help you lose that excess fat and unnecessary weight that is holding you back from ever finding a suitable husband. Because honestly you believe that a handsome and successful man like Samuel will not stick around a bigger and unhealthier girl when he could go for a woman your sister's size," She explained. I feel a sharp pang in my heart.

"Mom-"

"Daphne, you are a beautiful girl, but no other man will notice you because of this weight. It's only preventing you from getting another man," She explained.

"Mom, I-"

"Do you really think that Samuel is serious about his relationship with you?" She queried. A lump formed in my throat at her harsh words.

"Daphne, maybe you should quit this fairytale of a relationship. Samuel is not going to stick around a woman of your size for very long. John is already a man willing to accept this unfortunate flaw you have unlike any other man," She explained.

"Mom, I think you should go," I managed to choke out.

"Alright, but remember what I said," She sighed before leaving. I let her out of my house. After closing and locking the door, I turned around and leaned my back against it. I slid down and I started to cry. I thought that mothers were supposed to love their children, not call them fat or say that their relationship with an amazing man was a farce. How could she be so cruel? How? What did I ever do to deserve this kind of treatment? I was always a good child. I obeyed the rules, I barely ever got into trouble, I didn't give her any grief before and after dad had died, and I went off to college to further my education. What did I do to deserve this shit from her? Or Sidney? Cristian walks over next to me and he places one paw onto my arm. My doorbell rings and I quickly wiped my eyes. I get up and answer the door. Samuel pulled me into his arms. I broke down and cried ion his arms. He held me tightly against him.

Bùyào kū, dáfúnī. Wǒ zài zhèlǐ wéi nǐ," He soothingly said (translation: Do not cry, Daphne. I am here for you).
