《Love on Top》Ch.3

I woke up the next opening to my phone ringing. I groaned loudly and answered it. I put it to my ear.

"Hello?" I said.

"Where are you?! We're at The White Dress on Main Street," She hissed.

"Oh. Sorry. I slept late," I yawned into the phone.

"You do this all the time. I swear you're going to ruin MY wedding day," She hissed.

"I'll get there as soon as I can,Sidney. Don't worry," I yawned again.

"Good and stop making that disgusting, vile noise," She spat. She hung up before I could reply. I sighed to myself and got out of bed slowly. I stood up and stretched. Another day of wedding madness for me. Yippee. Note the sarcasm. I completely stripped out of my clothes and went to my bathroom. I turned on the shower and stepped in. When I finished my shower,I sprayed Marc Jacobs 'Honey' onto my body, did my hygiene, and picked out my outfit for the day. I grabbed my purse after taking down my hair from my twists then I said bye to my dog Cristian and left. I headed to my black 1970 Dodge Charger. I fell in love with this car after Reading so many of my dad's car magazines when I was a kid. I drove down to The White Dress. When I arrived I saw my mother standing outside with her arms crossed,a disapproving look carved into her features, and her expensive heel covered foot was tapping intensely with impatience against the hard concrete.

"You are late," She snapped.

"Sorry. I went to bed late," I said.

"I don't understand why you spend so much time at that library instead of spending time finding a man you can settle down and have kids with," She began and continued, "Daphne. You have to think about marriage and a family instead of putting your head into those worthless books. Look at your sisters. They're all happily married." Here we go as usual.

"I hear you, mom. Let's just go inside," I sighed deeply.

"You need to get married,Daphne. I don't want some daughter who lives with her dog," She said. I ignored her as she ranted on and on and on about the importance about marriage as we walked inside the bridal shop. When we got to the show room I saw my other three sister Regina,Marcela, and Chastity.

"Why are you so late?" Chastity asked as she rocked her baby girl back and forth.

"I went to bed late," I answered. She nodded in understanding.

"Probably reading at that stupid library again," Sidney scoffed. I glared at her for a moment.

"Nice to see you too,Sidney," I said.

"Just sit down so I can pick out the perfect wedding dress," Sidney snapped. I gave her a look and then sat down slowly. My mom sat down next to Regina.

"Hey. Do you mind holding Faith?" Chastity asked.

"Sure," I smiled. I took Faith from her and started rocking her myself.

"She was up all night crying," She tells me. I nodded in understanding.

"Excuse me. Your issues aren't as important as mine," Sidney said.

"Regina and Daphne,be quiet," Mother said. Sidney tried on many beautiful dresses and yet she couldn't decide on just one cause she pretty much liked almost half of them. Like damn. You can't wear about fifty million dresses at your wedding. It took us an hour to get her to bring it down to just a few dresses that she liked. She still couldn't decided so we all decided to move on from that and towards the bridesmaid gowns. Regina and Marcela made sure that Sidney didn't pick out some ugly dress for all of us to wear to this wedding. She actually chose three dresses that she liked. When she finally picked out one that she liked for the bridesmaid she was happy. I was too. I don't want to look like the ugly stepsister at her wedding while she looks like Cinderella. After finally managing to sort out the bridesmaids' dresses ordeal we moved back to the wedding gown. Sidney finally picked out one she absolutely loved. She paid for it and then we left to go out for lunch. Everyone decided to invite their husbands, fiancé in Sidney's case. I was like the sixth wheel. Eh. Doesn't matter. We were all sitting at restaurant called Jean-Georges which was Central Park West. I was currently scanning through my menu while everyone talk and chatted together. I decided on Goat Cheese Gnocchi which was caramelized baby artichoke, lemon and olive oil and to drink I got Pinot Noir, Lucien Crochet 2014 Sancerre, France which was a Rose Wine.

"Hello, everyone," A smooth deep voice said. I looked up from my menu to see a brown skinned man standing near my mother with a perfect smile.

"John, how nice to see you," Mother greets.

"Hello,Mrs.Chambray," John said.

"You came right on time. I admire a man who's on time," Mom smiled.

"I aim to please," John said.

"I'm so sorry,John. I forgot to introduce you to my family. John meet my daughter Chasisty, her husband Bryson, and her baby girl Faith. Next to them is my daughter Marcela and her husband Xavier, then there's my daughter Regina and her husband Tommy, right next to them is my youngest Sidney and her fiancé Fredrick, right next to me is my husband Peter but you've met him. Lastly there's my beautiful and precious daughter Daphne," Mom said.

"Hello,Ms.Daphne," John smiled.

"Mm. Hi," I pursed my lips. Mom gave me a warning look.

"Why don't you sit down next to Daphne,"Mom said. John nods and goes to sit down next to me. I take my purse out of that chair.

"John, what exactly is it that you do?"Chastity questions.

"I have my own law firm called Henderson & Sanders," He answered.

"Ah," Marcela nods. I sipped my wine.

"Daphne, why don't you tell John what you do for a living," Mom said. I rolled my eyes and sighed loud enough for everyone to hear.

"I am a magazine columnist for Cosmopolitan," I answered.

"That's impressive. What kind of columns do you write?" He asked.

"I am mainly a relationship columnist but I sometimes do fashion or celebrity interviews," I murmured.

"You write a column about relationships and gives advice and yet you can't seem to apply that to your life," Sidney smirked at me. I ignored her.

"I bet you've met a lot of celebrities," He said changing the subject. I appreciate him for doing that.

"I have," I nodded. I sipped some more of my wine.

"John, why don't you tell us about your law firm," Mom said. John started talking,no,boasting about his law firm. This whole conversation became boring real quick. Matter of fact, the whole lunch became a bore. I was happy when it was time to go. Me and my family were saying goodbyes and making plans for the next time we meet up for the wedding.

"Daphne,I'm sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you'd like to accompany me on a date," He said.

"John,you're a-"

"Of course she's love to!" Mother interrupted.

"Great," John smiled. Mom gave him my number.

"I'll call you tonight," John said.

"Okay," I said in a 'I-don't-care' tone of voice. I left quickly before he could say anything else. When I got home I greeted Cristian. We both headed upstairs. I decided to shower. After that I sprayed Axe Girls onto myself, pulled on some Adidas soccer pants,a Panama City Beach hoodie I got from Alvin's Island in Florida, and a pair of socks. I slapped my hair into a messy bun, took out my contacts, and put on my square framed glasses. I opened up my laptop and started typing away on my computer for my relationship advice column for Cosmo. When it hit 8pm I decided to order some pizza. I got Dominoes. I had ordered a pepperoni and pineapple pizza. I typed some more until the doorbell rang. I sighed and cracked my neck. I slipped on my slides and walked downstairs with Cristian trailing behind me. I opened it to see a really handsome guy who looked to be in high school. I expected a Napoleon Dynamite look-alike. Not a young and handsome Ryan Gosling look-alike.

"Your total is 15.99,"He said.

"Oh okay," I nodded. I signed the receipt and then I took the pizza from the good looking Ryan Gosling look-alike. I tipped him five dollars more than what I was supposed to. I thanked him and he left. I closed and locked my front door. I headed towards the kitchen with Cristian where I grabbed a bottle of Pepsi and a styrofoam plate. I headed upstairs to my room with the food and my things. Cristian followed after me. I placed two slices of pizza on my plate and set the box on the printer. Cristian loves getting into food that's not his. I gave him one slice of pizza then I continued on with my work. At some point John called me but I ignored him. I stayed up all night working until it was seven am the next day. I sent the column to my editor and chief before going to bed. The empty pizza box lay on the desk along with my plate which was inside. Cristian was already asleep on his doggy bed. As soon as my head hit the pillow I was out like a light.
