I woke up with Beth and Carl by my side and I gave them a sideways glance.
"Umm...can I help you?" I ask them stupidly, then everything came back to me. I look around. It was dusk. "Where is everyone?" I ask frantically.
"They're getting Maggie and Glenn back." Beth says, trying to calm me.
"And Merle?" I ask them. They exchange glances.
"That, we don't know." Carl says and I frown.
"What?"
"We don't know if we can trust him, Ember." Beth says softly, holding my hand.
"But...why did Merle take them in the first place?! Why would he! Doesn't he care!" I shout.
"Ember..." Carl begs and I sigh.
I lay back. "Daryl was always my favorite anyway..." I breath. Beth looks at me like I'm a sick puppy, which only made me even more mad. I buried my emotions and just toughed it out. Pain is just a part of life. It always will be, and in this world, it's everywhere.
I get up. "What are we gonna do in the mean time?" I ask, hoping to find something to do while we wait.
Carl shrugs. "I don't know." He merely says.
I crouch down and look under my bed. I pull out my bow. "I can teach you guys, I took classes when I was ten and I was in the junior Olympics." I say excitedly. "This bow has the 40 pound draw weight so it can be used for hunting. She's my best inanimate friend." I boast and Beth smiles.
"Sounds fun, but what's the target we're gonna shoot for?" Beth asks.
I smirk. "Carl." I tease and Beth giggled as Carl playfully punches me.
"Um, I don't know actually. How about...we get a pillow from an empty cell and that'll be the target." I suggest and Carl and Beth nod.

They kind of sucked. I told them they have to draw back with three fingers and keep your body still because the movement can effect the arrow. Beth hit the pillow and I slapped a high five with her. Carl hit the very top corner of the pillow and that was his victory. When I did it, I shot the pillow right in the middle and took a bow like Beth and Carl were an audience.
"I am Katniss, thank you very much." I say and giggle.
I totally forgot about Merle.
👍the art in chapters 3, 4, and 5 just to give you guys an idea of what Ember looks like!
