《Setter Ace of Shiratorizawa》4: The Game Pt. 2

Hinata got blocked again, making the score 4-6. I did not look happy.
"Better snap out of it buddy, or you're gonna keep getting blocked." The blonde taunted Tobio, "Why not give him one of your royal sets?" He suggested, "the kind that wipe out your opponents, and your teammates at the same time!"
"THAT'S IT!" I pushed up my sleeves, starting to head down.
"Kazane, don't." Tobio gave me a look. I stared him down, but soon gave up with a sigh.
"Goddammit glasses, you're gonna get it when this is over." I grumbled under my breath, going back to my spot. The next serve was a miss, so it was Tobio's turn to serve. "You got this Tobi! Wreck em and show em you're the best!"
"Would you just shut up already and let me play? Geez you're annoying!" My twin rolled his eyes, spinning the ball.
"If you don't stop being such a grouchy pants, I'll invite Oikawa over for dinner next weekend!"
"DON'T YOU DARE!"
"THEN STOP YELLING AT ME WHEN I'M TRYING TO SUPPORT YOU!"
"Man, those two won't stop." Daichi sighed. Finally, Tobio served. Straight to the captain, who received it flawlessly.
Tsukishima set it to Tadashi, who hit it at Hinata. The ball shanked, so it was a point. "Did you think I was the weak spot?" Daichi directed the question to Tobio as Tanaka told him how receives were Daichi's specialties. "I may not have as much raw talent as you, but I've been training on receives a lot longer than you have."
"Yeah, way to show em!" I cheered.
"Whose side are you on?!" The other spectators demanded, me just shrugging.
"Nobody's!"
"Your grace! Shouldn't you be taking this more seriously?" Tsukishima asked.
"Dude what's the matter with you?" Hinata demanded, "Why do you keep picking on the guy? Chill out with the freakin nickname!"
"What for?" He asked, pointing at the black haired king. "Do you even know why everybody started calling him the king of the court?"
"I just thought his enemies called him that, because he's a really good player. And, well, everyone was so afraid of him." Hinata said, and I sighed. I really wanted to jump in, but I was going to respect my twin's wish and stay out of it.
"That's a common misunderstanding," Tsukishima laughed, "but it's just not true."
"Huh?"
"Well, if the rumors are to be believed, then his nickname king of the court was given to him by the other players of Kitagawa First." The blonde male explained, "yeah, that's right, by his own teammates. The truth is, they were not paying him a compliment, but calling him a tyrant. I've been hearing about it a long time but now that I've seen him play I'm convinced. He got benched at the finals because he was a domineering, power tripping dictator." He finished.
I had never wanted to punch somebody so bad, not even Oikawa and that was saying something.
"That's why he won't try a quick attack, you're still shaken up about what happened that day."
"You know what, I've had enough of your smarty ass-" Tanaka started, but Daichi cut him off.
"Tanaka." He shook his head. My eyes narrowed. He'd let the first year mouth off, but won't let Tanaka retaliate? Geez, what a great fucking captain.
"Well why bother setting when there's no one there to spike it." Tsukishima continued, looking like a smug bastard.

"You're right." Tobio said suddenly, gaining everyone's attention. "The thought of no one being there to back me up... Terrifies me, alright?" He told them, not looking up.
"Yeah, but that was back in middle school." Hinata butted in, turning to face him. "Your sets are going to reach me. No question about it." He said confidently. Tobio looked shocked. Then Hinata pointed at four eyes. "After that, the only problem is how to get past this jerkhole."
"And you know I can get all your sets, little bro!" I called.
"I thought I told you to shut up!"
"I'm just trying to support my little bro here!"
"I'M NOT YOUR LITTLE BROTHER, JUST BECAUSE YOU CAME OUT THREE MINUTES BEFORE ME DOES NOT MEAN YOU'RE OLDER!"
"... Geez, so mean." I pouted sadly, pushing my bottom lip out. Hinata stalked over to my twin, pointing back at Tsukishima.
"You need to kick Tsukishima's ass, join the volleyball Club and become the setter, just like we planned. Then you have to send the ball to me!" Hinata pointed to himself as the tall black haired male stared back at him in annoyance. "It's not that complicated!"
Tobio growled, his eyebrows twitching. "Oh shut up," Tall blonde and salty rolled his eyes, "That over the top annoying attitude of yours is disgusting."
"The only thing that's disgusting is your attitude, punk." I muttered under my breath, and pretty much anyone who could see me could see that I was seething.
It was time for Tsukishima to serve, and right before he did he added, "And enthusiasm won't make you any taller!" That was low. Even for him, I gritted her teeth. Man how I would love to put that no good brat in his place.
"If you think trying hard is all it takes to succeed, you're sorely mistaken." Glasses finished, serving the ball. Tanaka got it, sending it straight to Tobio.
"Nice one Tanaka!" I cheered.
"Send it to me!"
"Give it back give it back!" Tanaka and Hinata said at the same time. My twin looked conflicted for a few seconds.
"Tanaka!" He said, but then Hinata was right behind him.
"Kageyama!" He yelled, "I'm here!"
It happened so fast I almost missed it, and probably would have if I had blinked. Tobio shot it towards Hinata, and the carrot top almost missed it but managed to yeet it over.
"That was close, almost jumped at nothing! But it's out.." Hinata frowned, causing Tobio to spin towards him.
"What the hell was that for?!"
"The ball came right towards me!" The little ball of carrot shouted. "I don't care about what happened in middle school, I'm grateful for every set that comes my way. I just want the ball.." He told him, and I smiled. I remember when I was like him, and hadn't hit my growth spurt yet.
"I'll jump anywhere, I'll hit any ball! Believe me!" The little ball of carrot put his hand on his chest, grabbing the fabric of his shirt. "Give me a set and I'll hit it!" Hinata promised.
"YASSSSS TELL EM HINATA!" I cheered, causing the orange haired male to look up at me with a grin.
"YOU GUYS CAN DO QUICK ATTACKS AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME?!" Tanaka demanded furiously.
"What's that?" Hinata asked in confusion.
"That crazy fast attack that you just did!"
"Eh? Uhuh." Hinata shook his head. "The only sets I've ever hit were way up high in the air."

"You literally just did it!" The buzzcut bro argued. "Look, remember in middle school when that rookie setter messed up and you hit it anyway, like that!"
"Huh? But, I don't even remember how I did it." Hinata said, making Tanaka groan. "Whatever! I'll still hit any set that comes at me, you just wait and see!"
My twin still looked conflicted, then glanced away. "You've never done combos before so that's impossible for you." He said, immediately getting a reaction out of the ball of carrot.
"Don't be ridiculous! You don't get to act like a whimper, so stop it!" Hinata pointed at him as he groaned and walked away.
"Not very regal of you sire!" Tsukishima's called after him.
"You're gonna pay for that, I promise you!" Hinata yelled in annoyance and anger.
"Look at that," Glasses smirked, putting a hand on his hip. "Getting all bent out of shape again? You can't just bulldoze your way through everything." He said, "you know that right? Not everyone is a good fit for every job, you know. I mean you're clearly not cut out to be a spiker-"
"DAICHI, LET ME DO IT! SUGA GIVE ME A TOSS PLEASE, LET ME MAKE HIM EAT HIS WORDS!" I yelled, once again pulling up my sleeves.
"For the last time, no! Maybe after the game, not right now." Daichi sighed running a hand over his face as I cheered.
"You're right." Hinata spoke up, "in middle school, even now, no matter how much I jump I always get blocked." He muttered, "Height is important for volleyball, you can't always just jump real high to make up for being short like me. But still, that never stopped me from wanting to be a spiker!" Hinata exclaimed. "I don't care if I'm cut out for it or not, I'll do the best I can with what I've got, and I'll win! I'm on this court and I'm not going anywhere."
"Have you even listened to a word I said?" Tsukishima sighed in annoyance, "it doesn't work that way, shortie. You can't substitute spirit for height, unless you want to be a libero that is."
"I open up the wall and block the spiker." Tobio suddenly said after a moment of silence. Going to stand next to Hinata, he stared down Tsukishima. "That's the setter's job." Then he proceeded to drag Hinata away from the net, I assumed to have a pep talk but I couldn't hear.
After the pep talk, their side looked at least a bit less annoyed and more excited, which was a good thing in my book.
However, when Tobio set it, Hinata missed. I snorted at all of their faces. "How'd you miss that?!" Tobio demanded, "You have to-" He shut himself up, probably remembering not to be a control freak. A+ for attitude change!
"Nice ball, your Highness!" Tsukishima teased, and he immediately glared at the blonde.
"Nothing ever works out on the first try!" He defended.
"Hey, that's what losers say!"
For the next few tries, Hinata kept missing. And then he accidentally got himself caught in the net, which impressed me to be sure. "You look like a fish!"
Then they started arguing if Hinata needed more umph or pow, which was really weird.
"Kageyama," Sugawara called, picking up the ball. "You need to make sure history doesn't repeat itself." He said, "uh, what I mean is..."
"He's got super fast reflexes and uh, he can jump!" My twin pointed at Hinata, who looked confused. "He can learn how to quick attack!"
"That's not what I'm really getting at though." Sugawara stepped forward, "I think I know how you guys can be more effective."
"Hm?"
"Hinata doesn't really know what he's doing out there," He called him out, causing me to snort.
"That's kinda harsh.." The ball of carrot grumbled.
"He does have technique or experience like a lot of the people you competed against in middle school," The silver haired male continued, "but he's a rare asset."
"REALLY?! Aww come on, I'm not like a genius or anything.." Hinata said bashfully.
"Who said that?!" Tanaka snickered.
"If I had your skill, I mean, think about it! Maybe you should try adapting more to Hinata's characteristics instead of the other way around!" Sugawara explained, wiggling his fingers. "Don't you see what I'm saying? Then-"
"Take it easy Suga!" Tanaka said.
"It's up to you to use his talents more effectively!" Suga finished, not even glancing at the buzzcut bro. "I'm a setter like you, so I was pretty freaked out when I saw you play last year. You've got incredible talent and control over the ball. But most of all, you're good at analysing the opponent's blocking moves and make decisions on the fly. I've got... None of those things." Sugawara said sadly.
"Don't you say crap like that!" Tanaka spoke up angrily, only for Daichi to cut him off.
"Hold on, let him talk, okay?"
"You're good at what you do and have almost too much determination." Suga continued, "but your ability to assess your surroundings is your most important skill!" He tossed the ball to Tobio, who caught it. "You have to pay closer attention to your allies!"
I started laughing as soon as I saw my brother's face, which was full of shock. "Haha, it never even crossed your mind did it!" I continued laughing. Tobio ignored me, instead turning to Hinata with a serious expression.
"Listen." He growled sternly.
"Ah! Uhhuh!"
"I'm jealous of your crazy reflexes alright?!"
"Huh?!"
"That's right, that's why you piss me off." He admitted, "such a waste!"
"HUH?!"
"That said!" He pointed at Hinata, "All I can do now is use your talent to the fullest."
"What the-?" Tanaka was so confused.
"You are going to run at full speed, and you're gonna jump as high as you can." Tobio instructed calmly. "I'll deliver the ball to you."
"Huh?" Hinata looked lost, "What do you mean by deliver the ball?"
"All you have to do is jump at max height and max speed wherever there's an opening and swing at full power. Forget adjusting to the ball, you don't even need to see the ball."
"Bro I think you're loosing it." I muttered, everyone else just as confused as I was.
"Huh?! How can I hit it if I don't even see it?!"
"I don't know."
"What?!"
"Just--try okay?" Tobio said, so Hinata nodded.
"Alright."
"What are those two planning over there? No one wants to deal with his majesty's selfish ways." Tsukishima smirked, Tadashi agreeing.
It was time for the next serve, and Tobio took a deep breath. And then, it happened. I almost missed it, but the ending result was clear. Tobio had done exactly as he said, delivering the ball to Hinata who slammed it down the sideline.
All without looking at it.
Holy shit.
