《Throwin' It Back》12.) Light a Cig

"Where are we going?" I question, as I walk blindly in front of Axel.

After the most exhilarating ride of my life, we finally stopped in front of a row of trees. He wouldn't let me see where we were going, so he tied his bandana around my eyes. We were currently walking to who knows where. For all I know, he could be leading me to my potential death.

"It's a surprise."

"I hate surprises."

He chuckles as he intertwines our hands, "But you love me."

I roll my eyes, but a smile plays on my lips, "Whatever floats your boat, McCarthy."

We continue to walk, and I swing our hands as we do. Every now and then, I hear him let out a little laugh. It was adorable, and it made my heart melt like chocolate. I thought we were going to walk forever, until we finally stopped. He walked behind me and undid the bandana, and when it slipped off, my jaw dropped.

He took me to the beach.

But not just any beach. He took me to a beach nobody was allowed to go to. I knew this because my grandparents once told me about it. Apparently it was the most private beach of our area- even back then. It was owned by a couple, and they had it so that only their family could visit it. It was legendary, according to my grandparents.

Most of their family used it for just spending the day for each other, but the guys also used it for romantic things. They used it for dates, picnics, candle lit things, and sometimes proposals.

Axel brought me here. Does this mean something?

"Oh my God..." I say breathlessly, and Axel smiles. He wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me to him.

"I'm guessing you've heard about this place." I nod, and his smile grows wider.

"My grandparents own it. I've been here a couple times for my family. I pretty much use it as my second spot. I come here a lot when I need to think or just escape." I watch him as he speaks, and my heart beats rapidly. He had me wrapped around his little finger and he didn't even realize it.

"Why did you bring me here?" He smiles down at me before sitting on the sand. He motions for me to sit with him, and I sit between his legs. Axel wraps his arms around my waist, and we sit there, watching the waves silently crash into the shore.

"I really don't know." He says, laying his head on my shoulder. "All I know is that you're the only person I want here with me."

My heart beats even faster, and a blush creeps up my neck, all the way to my ears. I smile and lay my head on his shoulder.

"I wouldn't want to be with anyone else either." He smiles and kisses me on the cheek. I close my eyes and listen as the waves continue to crash on the shore. Besides that, it was completely silent. I had never felt more at peace. Being in Axel's arms only made me feel more peaceful.

Axel and I sat there for five hours. We talked about anything and everything; ranging from little things to our families, dreams, and aspirations. I learned he wanted to be a doctor. He wanted to be a doctor that saved lives.

His words had been, "I might not be able to be the real life superman, but saving live's is the closest thing to being that. I've always dreamed of that." I smile at him, and he continues to play with my hair.

"What about a family?" He watches the sky, absentmindedly rubbing my back.

"I want that too. I want a beautiful wife, a dog, and maybe three kids." His eyebrows crinkle, "The fact that all of that seems so soon shocks me. I'll be in college next year. It all starts then."

He looks down at me and smiles, "What about you? What do you want?"

I ponder the thought. Honestly, I had never really thought about it. My dream had always been to be a teacher. I wanted a family with Axel- the Axel from my generation, and I wanted us to be happy. But now, with everything that happened, the future is blurry. I hate it.

"I just want a husband who cares for me, makes me smile, and loves me unconditionally everyday." He nods, and we go back to silence.

After a while, he finally stands up, and we go back to his motorcycle. The ride home was just as exhilarating as the ride there, and my smile never faltered. I thought we were going home, but instead we stopped at a hangout place. I could see all of our group there, and when Axel and I got off his motorcycle, they all smirked at us.

Pam walked up to Axel and glared, "I swear to God, Axel McCarthy, if you tell me I'm going to be an aunt-"

"Chill sis. I have morals." He rolls his eyes, and the rest of them continue to smirk at us.

"Yeah, morals of getting free love from every girl on the face of the planet. " Rocco states, and all of them burst out laughing, except for me, Pam and Axel. I just kind of looked away- Pam and Axel rolled their eyes.

"That's not true and you know it." Axel mumbles, and I glance over at him. He was tense. His back was hunched, and his other hand that wasn't in mine was clenched in a fist.

Rocco comes up beside me and slings an arm over my shoulder. "It's only a matter of time, Michelle baby. One thing and then boom! He's on to the next girl."

"Damn Devlin, you are really cruisin' for a bruisin'." Rocco rolls his eyes and sits beside Bev.

Axel still looks extremely mad, and he stares at Rocco like he wants to rip his head off. As much as it bugged me about what Rocco said, I squeezed Adel's hand in assurance. He visibly relaxed and sent me a grateful smile.

"Heads up, McCarthy." He looked over at Danny, and he throws Axel a cigarette.

Axel nodded at him, and pulled out a lighter. He put the cigarette in his mouth and cupped his hand, using the other to light it. He slid the lighter back in his pocket, held the cigarette, pulled it out, and blew out a puff of smoke. I looked over at Danny, and he smirked at me.

"You want one?" I shake my head, and he shrugs.

I didn't do cigarettes. I knew what they could do to you, and I wasn't ready to ruin my lungs anytime soon. People come and go from Danny, each getting a cigarette and giving him money.

"You sell cigarettes?" I ask, and he nods, Rocco smirks at me and leans back on the building.

"Best way to get rich over night, doll face." Axel and Danny nod their head in agreement.

"It's like pennies from heaven." Danny says just as another person buys one.

We continue to stand there, watching people come and go, and Axel wraps his arm around my waist, rubbing circles in my side. I had my arm wrapped around him too, with my head on his chest, but what Rocco said actually scared me.

And I was completely scared that what he said would be true.
