I wake up later with my head pounding. This is what I call my headache routine. I sit up, hold my head, and groan.
Sym comes bouncing into the room like a little pixie and asks me whats wrong. I point to my head and she nods, then skips out. What is with her being so happy all the time? It must be so exhausting. I dont think I could bear laughing or even smiling for more than five minutes, let alone 24/7!
That girl must like, chug coffee. Mmm... Coffee. Symali comes back in a few minutes later with a glass of water and an advil. I nod a thanks and she smiles. For the billionth time. I smile and shake my head at the thought. She soon leaves the room as I quickly down the water and advil. I must be really dehydrated, cause that water seemed like the most beautiful creation ever created. I send a silent thank you up to the Moon Goddess for water then get up in search of a coffee pick-me-up. I get downstairs to the kitchen and see the fridge with its water tap, or the coffee maker. You know what? Forget coffee, I want some more water!
I grab a glass and fill up the cup. I must've drank like, four glasses more before finally getting my fill. I put the glass in the dishwasher before I fill the water jug with coffee. I'm not gonna be able to stay awake all day on just water.
I put in the grounds and water then press start. I walk into the living room and lay on the couch. I hear the front door open and slam. I am suddenly accompanied on the couch by Mason as he lays face up on me and sighs.

"Man Im so tired after training, and sweaty, I guess this couch wont mind if I take a little nap." He states and yawns ((I just yawned as I wrote that lol)) I pound on his back and he laughs.
"I didnt know this couch had a massage feature." He sighs and I smile. I push the big doof off of me.
"Hey!" He yells and I get up. I grab my board.
"Youre heavy!" I write and he laughs.
"Uhh, writer, ya kinda forgot the apostrophe ((I didn't break the fourth wall... Or did I??? DUN DUN DUUUNNN))." He responds and I smile. I put the apostrophe and he nods.
"Now," He starts and puts on a upset face. "Are you saying I'm fat?!" He sobs like an insecure girl and I almost laugh.. But only a gurgling sound comes out. I cover my mouth. I go to the sink in the kitchen and spit up some blood and mucus.
'Gross..' I think to myself as I turn on the tap and wash it down the drain.
I walk back out to see him lounging on the couch. I walk over and lift his leg up before sitting under it. We sit there watching god knows what before Rose comes in.
"Yo, Im going to the store. Want anything?" She asks. I shake my head.
"A mango iced tea would be nice." Mason responds. Rose grabs her keys and walks out.
"I forgot to ask her for food, so Imma go make somethin. Want anything?" He asks and stands up. He starts stretching as I stand up.
"I got it. Whaddya want?" I write down. He looks at me in shock.
"Oh. Well, thanks. Just a grilled cheese is fine." He asks and sits back down. I scurry into the kitchen and quickly pull everything out. Crud! I forgot to ask if he wanted cheddar or american.. He's gonna kill me! I slowly walk out with my head down.

'What are you doing? Its only Mason.' Lisa explains in my head and I nod. Shes right. Hes not my brother. He wont hurt me like that. But I had this deep feeling engraved into my gut that he will. This fear is so great that my instincts kick in and I put my head up and my hands at my sides. I grab my board and write quickly.
'Im sorry. I forgot what kind of cheese you wanted..' I write with my head down. My eyes fill with tears but I fight them back. I brace myself as I hear Mason stand and walk over. Here it comes. I feel his hand come into contact with my face.
But it only gently lifts my head.
"Hey. Its okay. I want cheddar. Your allowed to make mistakes Dove. No ones gonna hurt you." He promises and I smile. He wipes a tear that went down my face.
"You're safe here.." He whispers before turning back around and flopping onto the couch. I go into the kitchen and quickly make his food while biting my lip.

Contact First
2039 - Earth A narrow beam energy signal appeared aimed squarely at earth from the TRAPPIST system. The communication consisted of a layered set of repeating data over several thousand wavelengths. Over the next few months scientists discovered that the lower wavelengths carried an encoded numerical language which could then be used to interpret the more complicated messages carried on the higher wavelengths. After half a year of painstaking work the signal was fully decoded. It described a small satellite launched along a precise trajectory towards the fourth planet of our solar system. Included was a package of advanced research that humanity would need to have ready in order to receive the satellite and decelerate it safely. The alien data provided the kick that humanity needed to turn from petty squabbling and unite to explore the final frontier. Major government and corporate leaders worked together to create the framework for the United Federation of Sol. UFS spaceports went from scaffolding to daily launches in every major city around the globe. Ships floated like dandelion seeds, spreading on solar wind to grow into colonies. 2397 - Mars orbit, Egeria Station The command center was a hive of activity as checks were conducted and systems initialized. Scientists flitted by like mayflies as communicators beeped and holoscreens spat out green tinted readouts. Nervous energy was thick in the air as everyone anticipated the culmination of over three hundred years of work. Massive fusion reactors under the planet's surface thrummed with barely restrained power as energy fed into a gleaming metallic maze criss crossing the planet. Metal fingers reached up, overshadowing the mighty olympus mons and trying to grab the stars. All over the solar system, people quickly turned to look as gigantic energy lances shot from the dusty fourth planet. Two years later. The same people that clapped loudly at the successful activation of project Hermes now wait with baited breath. A silver capsule trailing bright photonic sails is captured by a net of grav beams and guided with care bordering on reverence into the station. Holoscreens across the headquarters project an image of the sleek craft settling in the bay. Data connections are established and the holoscreens blink to white. Slowly an image forms on the screen. Across the headquarters people stare in wonder as a wholly alien face stares back. "Contact established. Welcome to the universe."
