《The Invitation》Chapter 14

--- Eliza ---

"What?"

"Ughhh" said Leah in annoyance, "I SAID THAT I FOUND THE BLOODY CURE YOU DIMWITS!"

"Oh."

There was silence, broken when Elias said, "Well what is it then?"

Leah quickly looked towards the new girl before asking everyone to sit down. Eliza couldn't figure out the connection between the new girl and Leah and Nico, but she knew it couldn't be good.

Anyway, it was none of her business.

Ha! She laughed at herself, as if that ever stopped her from poking her nose in.

But that was something for another time.

For now, Leah had something to say.

"So, we've all been thinking about what food we ate, and who was there and who had been poisoned, but what we missed is who wasn't there during breakfast. "

"Loretta!", said Nico, brightening up.

"Yes precisely. I had a feeling she was key to finding out the cure, but I couldn't piece it togethed until Eliza said that she remembers seeing Loretta drinking from the fountain."

"That was the only thing that she had consumed that we hadn't and its clear that there's something in the water that caused her hallucination and it could be a drug"

Suddenly all the pieces fit together in Elizas brain. "But what if the drug wasn't something bad, but actually something useful......"

"That certainly explains why the Armeshires kicked Loretta out, she would be immune to the whatever they put in our food, but if it was an anitidote, why would Loretta begin hallucinating......" asked Nico.

" And that would be if the drug in the water was very concentrated, and would only be properly effective if there was something for it to cure.", finished Leah.

"Well everyone, I believe we've figured it out!"

Suddenly Elias stood up, removing his waistcoat, and said, "Well then, whatever are we waiting for?"

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" Eliza shrieked, as he began to remove more clothing.

But Elias only grinned and walked out the front door, everyone not far behind him. Taking a deep breath, he ran and jumped into the fountain - creating a huge splash.

When Elias resurfaced, Nico also grinned and jumped into the fountain fully clothed, with Leah not far behind him.

Sighing internally, Eliza took a deep breath and jumped, shrieking as her body came in contact with the freezing water.

The fountain, thankfully, was not very shallow.

And although it did occur to her that the water would be too dirty to drink now, that thought was clouded by the heady feeling of success that went over her, drowning out everything else.

Almost at peace, she didn't care about anything else, until someone stepped forward and said, "Did you forget about me?"
