《The Nerd that turned out to be Vampire-ish [Wattys2015]》CHAPTER 25: King of pokers.

I was actually a step away from escaping this weird path of being a vampire-keeper's-life-changing-finger-slitting moment, but decided to stand for my word. And enter this hell hole with my head held high and pride in the pocket. Well, not literally, this yacht was a level too high for being called a hell hole.

I was half-expecting to see pitch black and overall darkness, while we're out here in the ocean, but it's actually the opposite. The full moon was like a big bulb of light in the sky, it was amazing how it shines in contrast to the dark, and how its rays are reflected to the ocean's waves. Okay, I'm being weirdly artsy.

Honestly, I'm glad that the sea is in a good mood tonight, different from its rage yesterday, which is good because I don't really want to bless this ocean with puke.

We've reached the said island and as we grew near the harbor, I could see torches from the distant and people in black robes. We docked at the port, and are instantly welcomed by those mysterious people.

My hands are shaking, seriously, I have a hunch that they'll crucify me and bleed me to death.

For ducks sake! Why are they being so cliché? Why can't they just wear hoodies? That would've been less scary and cooler, like hipster vampires.

Someone nudged my side, I looked and it was Tristan. I guess I turned into a pole moments ago, and probably looked stiffer than an aroused penis.

"You okay? You seem paler than my mom, who has a severe case of anemia." I laughed. Well, it wasn't a joke but I'm weirdly nervous, I can't even grasp my emotions.

"Those people won't crucify me, right?" Tristan's eyebrows rocketed to the moon, and walked the path where Neil Armstrong did. And when it came back, he laughed really hard.

"I don't know, maybe." He smirked and gestured me to follow the rest who's now on the beach.

I punched his arm. "Be serious. I'm having a silent heart attack here." He laughed.

"They are Sevyr's people." He paused. "I asked grandfather last night, on who is the last witness, and I didn't expect he'd invite him. Someone from the world council." He stopped whispering and looked at me. "So don't embarrass yourself and us. He's a big fish in our society."

"You could have just left that minor detail to yourself." I sighed. I feel like I'll really get a heart attack tonight, literally.

My feet touched the sand, I'm only a few steps away from being tossed into a new life, a life of uncertainty. Wow, that's deep.

When Divina saw me she immediately pulled me and clasped my hands, looking at me intensely.

"This is it dear." She said, her voice also had a hint of nervousness. "Now listen to me carefully. When you arrive at the end of this pathway." She pointed at a bricked path. "You'll see a circular object filled with water, in the center of it, is a silver knife. Kneel down, get the knife, and slit your finger. Afterwards drop a single blood on the reflection of the moon in that water. Then you'll do your pledge." I gulped, well I think I did. My mouth was so dry, I imagined I swallowed enough saliva to drown my heart.

Three cloaked people with torches went to us, and it seems what they lack was a wooden cart. Then this whole peg, would look like a scene from a medieval movie.

"Go with them." Divina said, and gave me a cloak of my own. Guess I'm joining the cloak brigade. Like the saying, if you can't beat them, join them.

I put on the cloak, and followed the other three who's walking towards the bricked path. Feels like I'm in a procession. If I'd known, I could have brought my own torch, and even put pink ribbons around it.

The path was longer than I'd expected, my mute companions wasn't any good either. This hike is more boring than looking at a snail crawl. I wish I'd brought my phone, I could have put on some dramatic background music while walking this dark path.

Well it has gotten creepier by the second. I don't know why, it's probably my thoughts playing tricks in my head or just the annoying crickets around us. I tried to calm myself by listening to the waves of the sea as it crashes to the shore.

The path was coming to an end, and what's worse is that my companions suddenly disappeared to the dark. I'm now left alone with my pounding heart that sounds like internal drum rolls.

In the distance, I can see a silver disk. That is probably what Divina mentioned earlier. I'm now at the end of the road, standing in what looks like a small opening in the middle of a forest. I looked up and the moon was perfectly right above me. I then looked down to see its reflection on the clear water inside the disk, and that's when I see the silver dagger.

It's actually a knife, but a dagger sounds more dramatic.

I knelt down to get a closer look at it. It was out of this world, a piece of art worthy to be displayed in a museum. What amazes me is the beautiful carvings on its handle. I can't seem to tell if those are Celtic embellishments or just random designs.

I took it out of the water and held it, it was lighter than I'd expected it to be. I looked at it at how sharp it is. I closed my eyes and held my breath, like I just dived into a sea of thoughts.

Am I really going to do this? What if I faint the moment I see my own blood?

"FUCK THIS SHIT!" I shouted and slit my finger. Drops of blood started to pour as I put my injured finger on top of the water. The moon's reflection started to become the color of crimson.

"STOP!" A voice behind the shadows shouted. I looked where it came from, that's when I saw someone come out behind a tree, wearing the same cloak I have. He took his hood down and I immediately stood up, this guy must be the one they call Sevyr. He has silver hair even with a young face, he looks like he's on the same age as Divina.

"You have vampire's blood in you. You can't be a keeper." He said, which made me laugh. I know I shouldn't even say a word, but I can't help it, what he said was hilarious.

"I'm no vampire, you can even look at my birth certificate." I said, when I managed to stop laughing.

He's now standing in front of me, looking at me intently like I'm some lunatic who he happens to know. Well, I can't blame him, I've already accepted the fact that my face is pretty common. What shocked me the most, was when he took my hand and licked my injured finger.

"Yes you are." He simply said, wearing the best poker face a person could pull off. I guess this guy is the king of pokers... or jokers.

"You're kidding." His face was still impassive. Seconds later I asked the most obvious. "Oh god. You're not?"

Then my world just stopped, as I dropped down the floor, with a question that hit my head so hard that that would lead me into a comatose.

Who am I?
