《The Alpha's Human Mate》Chapter 21 The Show Goes On

Mr. Hanson decided last minute that we would all be performing our parts of the play in front of a few other classes in the theatre. Instead of just in front of the class like he originally told us.

"You better not laugh," Ivy told me from the other side of the bathroom door. She was currently changing into her costume for the play.

I had already changed into mine, just a simple, white, cotton dress with my hair in soft curls to look like a sort of bride. Ivy and I carpooled together to school today because we both had to be here early to get ready and change for English.

Mr. Hanson told everyone that if we dressed up we would get bonus points when he marked us, claiming it'll help us get into character. So of course Ivy and I jumped at the mention of bonus marks.

Ivy slowly came out of the bathroom in the worst nun outfit that I had ever seen. It was a little more than a black dress and a white apron tied over it, which I guess wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't four sizes too big. It was the only nun outfit in the closet, and it looked more like a wool blanket on her than anything.

"I told you not to laugh!"

"I'm not," I took a deep breath to stifle my laughter. "It just looks so good on you that I'm blown away."

Ivy had to pick up basically half of the front of her dress to keep her from tripping over it.

Andrew and Mark were both already dressed and standing backstage with the rest of the class. Jackson was wearing a simple black suit, and Andrew was wearing some brown pants and a white button-up.

If Andrew hadn't been so awful lately then I might think he actually looks cute.

"Looking good, Juliet," Andrew smirked once he saw me.

"Thanks," I mumbled back. I still didn't like the guy, but I wasn't about to make a scene.

Our group's part of the show was in the middle, which meant that we had to wait a bit before we went on. Ivy mentioned that the boys convinced their teachers to let their classes attend this morning, claiming it would be a good learning experience. But I knew by now that that really meant that Xavier used his Alpha ways to demand it.

"You ready for our wedding?" Andrew whispered in my ear.

I was standing near the stage curtains trying to catch a glimpse of who was out in the audience when Andrew snuck up behind me.

"I can't wait for it to be over," I rolled my eyes.

"Now, my love," Andrew whispered venomously in my ear. I could feel his hot breath on the side of my neck, and a chill went down my spine. "I would be careful with what I say if I were you. We wouldn't want you impaled with a dagger."

"You need to leave me alone," I said spanning around on my heels. "Stop with all your creepy messages and your dull threats about my mom." I wasn't sure where all of this confidence was coming from, considering I was shaking underneath.

"Dull threats?" Andrew lifted his eyebrow at me. "I'm not threatening you, Addison, I'm trying to help you."

"Helping me?" I asked Andrew completely blown away. "You need to seriously get help of your own."

I went to take a step to the side, and past Andrew, but he whispered something that made my blood go cold. "Your werewolf isn't going to be able to protect you forever. Deep down you know that he's a monster that need's to be stopped."

"Guys were up next!" Ivy whisper shouted from a few feet away. Mark was right behind her, holding up part of her dress so it wouldn't drag everywhere.

"After you, luna," Andrew mumbled as I speed walked away from him.

"Our next group, group four, will be performing Romeo and Juliet's wedding scene," Mr. Hanson announced to the small crowd.

I could hear Xavier and Grayson cheering the loudest out of anyone else.

The cheering died down as Mark and Andrew entered the stage.

"So smile the heavens upon this holy act. That after-hours with sorrow chide us not," Mark recited his line perfectly.

The stage was bare except for a few fake, potted plants and some fake flowers scattered around the stage. We weren't following the exact scene layout, we just used what the school already had.

"Amen, amen. But come what sorrow can, it cannot countervail the exchange of joy that one short minute gives me in her sight. Do thou but close our hands with holy words, then love-devouring death do what he dare; it is enough I may but call her mine, " Andrew said seriously.

"How did anyone like this guy's work?" Ivy whispered annoyed beside me. "I barely understand what they're staying."

"That makes two of us," I laughed quietly.

I heard the end of Mark's line, so that meant it was my queue to rush onto the stage and into Andrew's arms. "Good even to my ghostly confessor."

Part of getting a good grade for this project was acting like Andrew didn't completely disgust me. This was very hard, mostly because Juliet was in love with Romeo and that meant I had to give him goo-goo eyes and wrap my arms around his waist for almost this whole scene.

Ivy entered right behind me, playing the part of my caretaker way too well may I add.

"Ah, Juliet," Andrew sighed dreamily taking a step back and holding my face in between his hands while he spoke. "If the measure of thy joy be heaped like mine, and that thy skill be more. To blazon it, then sweeten with thy breath this neighbour air, and let rich music's tongue. Unfold the imagined happiness that both receive in either by this dear encounter."

"Conceit, " I met Andrew's gaze with my own, trying to look like I was in love." More rich in matter than in words, brags of his substance, not of ornament. They are but beggars that can count their worth. But my true love is grown to such excess I cannot sum up sum of half my wealth."

I took a few steps back from Andrew, moving to beside Ivy and her and Mark's character's finished talking.

"Come, come with me, and we will make short work. For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone, till holy church incorporate two in one." Mark finished his last line before beckoning for us three to make our exit.

Mr. Hanson told us that we could cut our scenes down, so of course, Ivy and I voted to cut the whole kissing part.

Andrew took a few steps forward towards me, grabbing my hand and leading us both off the stage. Mark and Ivy were in front of us, pretending like they were on the lookout for our strict parents.

Andrew stopped abruptly just before we were off the stage and tugged my hand so I was facing him now instead of being beside him. "Juliet, my love," Andrew began. "I know that there are many foe against us, but I want thy to know that my heart beats only for one and shall beat for you until the sun sets on my last day."

And then without warning, while I was still trying to figure out what Andrew just said and why he said it, he leaned forward slightly and cupped my cheek. Before I could push him any he wrapped his other arm around my waist and kissed me. On the lips. In front of everyone. In front of Xavier.

I was so completely shocked by this that I froze. One side of my head was yelling at me to move, to push Andrew off of me and slap him across the face. The other part was telling me to not. That I didn't want to risk getting a and grade on this project and failing this class.

Before I could make up my mind Andrew pulled away from the kiss and grabbed my hand again, pulling me off stage with him.

Andrew kept an iron-clad grip on my hand and dragged me past everyone else backstage and out into the school hall.

"What the hell was that?" I was fuming right now. "That kiss? I never agreed to that."

"I told you I was helping you," Andrew rolled his eyes at me and then turned on his heel and start walking towards one of the doors.

"Help me? That wasn't helping me. I already told you to leave me alone but you can't see to get that concept through your thick skull!"

Andrew pushed the door open and I marched out right after him, still beyond angry.

"Go tell your little mutt that it was all part of the play," Andrew said in a dull tone.

"I already told you that I'm not scared of your stupid, untrue threats," I seethed. "And don't talk that way about Xavier."

Andrew stopped walking but didn't turn around when he spoke. "You need to be careful who you make friends with Addison. And since you've arrived in Midnight Creek you've made all the wrong choices, I'm just trying to make sure that you have options and don't end up stuck with some all-controlling, self-centred, killer." With that Andrew walking away.

I stood still, I had no idea what to say to Andrew right now? I mean, killer? Xavier wasn't a killer. And he defiantly wasn't a controlling jerk either like Andrew said.

What did he mean by that friend's comment, too? I knew who I was friends with. That was almost the same thing that Mr. Davis said to me.
