-Bucky's POV-
Before I could argue with her further, a bullet whizzed from behind Y/n and past my ear, burying itself in the wall behind me. I ducked and rolled to the safety of a wall to my rights. I didn't bother to look and see if she had followed suit, she was a smart girl. Smart enough to know to dodge bullets at least. Bullets continued to fly into the corner I sat behind, chipping away at the concrete edge. Just as I was beginning to get concerned whether Y/n had been shot or not, she circled the corner and crouched next to me.
"Hurry up next time," I snapped quietly. She glared at me in response. "When I say run, follow me as fast as you can." She nodded. We waited for the firing to cease and I gave the signal, and bolted to the room that she had refused to enter earlier. Surely she would enter now since her life depended on it. As we ran I felt the bullet whiz past my body, leaving trails of heat through the air. As the door got closer and closer I dropped my metal shoulder and put my weight into it as I busted it open. I looked behind me immediately to see Y/n skid to a halt and put her hands up, facing me, with her back to the Hydra soldiers. The firing immediately stopped, and one soldier pulled out a different looking gun, took aim at her back and fired.
"I told you..." her voice trailed off as she collapsed to the ground completely unconscious.
-Y/n's POV- -Small TW: SH-
I woke up with a sharp pain in my lower back, but when I went to turn onto my stomach, restraints on my wrists and ankles held me in place. I opened my eyes only to shut them immediately after being nearly blinded by the brightest fucking lights known to man. The sound of a door opening brought me to my senses again and I turned my head to the left to see.

"My dear, look at what you have done to my life's work!" A man's voice, thick with a German accent spoke. I was horrified to see him. The same scar in the forehead, the same thin, and wide smile. The beard had grown in more than when I last saw him, but he looked the same.
"I don't know what you're talking about, you crazy bitch." A hand slapped my apparently bare thigh, right on top of my fresher scars. I clenched my jaw shut tight and breathed in sharply through my nose.
"Watch your language when speaking to your superiors. It seems your time away has done more damage than I thought it would. No matter, soon enough you will be better than you were before. A better weapon, a better servant, better everything."
His words chilled me to the bone. A better weapon. I was already I weapon, I didn't need anything more done to me.
"I'm not doing anything for you ever again. I've done enough," I said lowly. "Just kill me." He laughed in disgust at this.
"Why would I kill my most prized possession? What use would you be to me then?" I closed my eyes. I wanted to die. I didn't want to be back in their hands, their control. Everything I did for them I did of my own accord. I knew what I was doing. I remembered every time I used my abilities to harm someone for Hydra. I would never do that again. He snapped his fingers once and two soldier came into the room, each grabbing an end of the metal table I was strapped too, and began wheeling me out of the room. I refused to let the tears out. I wouldn't let them know how scared I was. As I was wheeled down a hallway with cells on either side, I heard yelling at the other end. I continued to be pushed down the hall, and at the end near a door I saw Barnes, with both hands wrapped around two metal bars, screaming Russian profanities. When he looked in my eyes a wave of guilt washed over me. He had been a Hydra captive, too. If I hadn't froze at the shootout we might be safely on our way back to the compound.

"Y/N! Y/n fight, you're okay, you have your abilities, use them, Y/n, you'll be okay!" His voice rang through the hallways as I was pushed through a set of steel doors, opening to a room with a dentist's chair, and metal arm looking things around it. I had seen this when I worked for Hydra, but I didn't know what I did. Before I knew it I was strapped into the chair, with thick leather straps holding all parts of my body down. Russian and German sentences were thrown around the room- I was too scared to try to interpret them- and suddenly the metal arms were wrapped, hovering around my face.
The last thing I saw was Barnes being dragged into the room and forced onto his knees. We locked eyes and I was lost in the blue for a short moment before and excruciating headache erupted in my entire head. My brain felt as if it were in fire, and hot tears met my eyes. My jaw ground itself to death as I clenched my teeth down on the thick chunk of leather between my jaws. I heard screaming, but there was no way of telling if it was my own or someone else's.
-Bucky's POV-
Unable to do anything to help her, I watched as they blended the poor girl's brain in the same machine that was used in me for decades. This girl who has been through so much already, was back in the hands of the people who she says tortured her, all because Steve and I wouldn't listen to her when she told us she couldn't do this. Her pale skin trembled in the chair as the machine rocked her memories. When she opened her big eyes, the only thing she looked at was me, but slowly, her eyes changed from scared to dead and empty. Soulless.
Finally, the agonizing moments of her being forced into this were over, and she sat up, staring blankly ahead of her. The boss, I didn't know his name, walked to her and asked her name. She didn't reply, just stared blankly at him, and my hope that she was stronger than this crumbled. The boss smiled wickedly at her mindless reaction. He then turned to me and spoke lowly.
"You don't get the privilege of not knowing your actions. You do as I say, or she gets the punishment. Clear?" So what he was saying, was that if I didn't kill whoever he wanted, innocents, be the fist of Hydra, except consciously, Y/n would be beaten half to death for it.
"Clear."

Protagonist: The Whims of Gods
Book one now also on Amazon! After quitting her job as a therapist and grabbing some work at a dog shelter, Tess's life became pretty slow. A tad boring, even. It thus came as no small surprise when she was chosen by a god. Thrust into a new world where magic, monsters, and character levels are suddenly a reality, Tess will quickly find that just surviving can be a challenge. It doesn't help that dark forces are stirring, she's woefully underpowered, and that spiders keep trying to claw her face off. One thing's for certain, though: The possibilities are endless. Will she end up wrestling a dragon? Becoming an arch-mage? Opening a quaint, bookstore, coffee shop, and wine bar for elves? The choice is hers... As long as she can live long enough to make it. Protagonist is a fairly classic LitRPG novel with character levels, classes, stats, settlements, and other LitRPG elements. Unlike a lot of LitRPG stories, while the protagonist has some perks, she doesn't start off overpowered. You can expect to see her struggle as she advances. This novel also takes the opportunity to explore some less frequently seen builds, shying away from any min-maxing. Chapters are about ~2000-3000 words and are released at 8:00am ET every other day.

8 155Shadow Falls
If you wanted to protect someone you loved, how far would you go, and what would you be willing to sacrifice? This question is at the core of this emotional rollercoaster of the book, Shadow Falls: the Rise and Fall of Erida VanIsle. This book emerged from four years of collaborative storytelling centering on the main character, Erida VanIsle, written by author Myra VanIsle. In this book, VanIsle goes beyond the events that led to Erida's sacrifice and explores forty-five years of the cost she paid to protect the sister she loved more than life itself. Shadow Falls explores the family tragedy which led to the separation of two sisters on completely different paths polar opposite of each other. While Erida set upon a path of darkness and power, Myra set out to be a beacon of light and hope bringing justice and peace to others. Be warned, the story VanIsle tells is dark and not easy, because you can't have the light without the dark.
