━︎━︎ IN WHICH THEY TURN INTO SOMETHING UNEXPECTED

"He'll be fine" Edith said as the carriage disappeared from their view. Enola nodded in agreement, but she was slightly hesitant.

The two begun to walk in silence. Edith's head wasn't facing Enola's direction so she didn't see the girl nearly be hit by a carriage.

"Out of the sodding way, boy" someone said from a carriage to Enola, causing Edith to grab her by her arm and drag her away from the middle of the road.

On their way past a man with newspapers they heard him exclaim the case of the missing marquess. To which Edith turned to Enola and said with a huff —

"There are so many better things to announce, but they decided on that idiot"

They carried on walking as a man nearly jumped in front of Enola, causing her to yelp as he exclaimed "a shilling apiece!"

They quickly walked past the man but Enola stopped as she started down to the ground. Edith did too and saw a missing poster of Viscount Tewkesbury on the floor. The drawing of him was pretty similar, just his hair was currently shorter than before.

Edith crouched down and picked the piece of dirt paper up, stuffing it in her pocket. Enola gave her a quick and confused look that went unnoticed by Edith as she was standing back up.

"I must admit, London isn't quite what I imagined" Enola told Edith as they carried on walking past the crowds of people.

Edith only nodded her head as her face remained facing downwards. A man was yelling something about a reform as a small crowd cheered in agreement around him.

"Come on" Edith said as she begun to walk a bit faster, Enola right behind her.

"If we are to fit in" Enola started to say as she stopped outside a boutique with beautiful dresses. "And stay hidden from my brother and the public" she turned around to look at Edith who was staring at the dresses on the mannequins. "We must become something. . . unexpected"

Edith looked at Enola with a smirk as the two entered the shop. They looked through the racks of dresses — which were in almost every colour you could think of. Enola took out a red dress as Edith's eyes landed on a yellow one.

The colour reminded her of mustard and the sleeves were puffed and long with frills on it's shoulders. It had three dark yellow button going down from the neck and a yellow ribbon around the waist. It was perfect in her eyes.

"And what does a boy like you want with those?" Asked a woman out of nowhere as Enola jumped in her spot but Edith remained looking through dresses as she took the yellow one out.

"I shall need a whalebone corset" Enola spoke confidently as she folded the red dress over her arm and looked at the woman — who was eyeing Edith weirdly.

"You shall need no such thing. This is a respectable shop".

"Then we shall respect it" Edith said as she pulled out another dress. She looked over it before folding it over her arm.

"Well you don't look like you will. You don't smell like you will" the woman begin saying as Enola dug for something in her pocket. "And I —"

Enola pulled out a stack of money as Edith's eyes widened, she wasn't expecting that. The woman gasped as Enola observed the money with the dress she picked out under her armpit.

"Do you have anywhere we can dress?" Enola asked as Edith smirked at the woman's shuddering.

"In the back"

. . .

The two girls went into separate rooms to change, behind a dark red curtain, as Edith placed her two dresses on a velvet chair. The room had a large mirror and only now Edith saw how messy she looked.

She had small bags under her eyes and her hair was all over the place after she took her hat off. Edith sighed as she took off her current clothes, leaving her in her undergarments.

Edith took the corset in her hands before shutting her eyes and preparing herself mentally for wearing the uncomfortable piece of clothing. She tied it around her waist and shuffled around in attempt to make it more comfortable.

She continued to dress as she put on the yellow dress, deciding the leave the other one for another day. She tied the ribbons on her black boots and put on earrings with a matching necklace. She fixed up her hair before putting on her new hat — which was simple but beautiful.

She exited the changing room just as Enola exited hers. Edith nearly didn't recognise her friend but smiled when she did.

The elderly woman gasped at the sight of the two young woman as Enola put something into a small bag hanging from her arm. "Now, where might we find a lodging house? We'll pay handsomely for good value"

. . .

Edith carried a paper bag with the two dresses in her hand as the woman from the boutique led them to a lodging house through the crowded streets of London.

"Is it really good value?" Enola asked.

"Oh, best value you'll find". The woman assured without looking back at the two girls, making Edith believe she wasn't telling the truth. "You're lucky you found me"

"Very" Edith said as she straitened her posture.

The woman decided to ignore her comment and opened the door they had just walked up to.

They walked up the stairs, yelling could be heard from other rooms as the woman finally opened the door to a room they would be sleeping in.

"Here you have it". She said with a obvious faux smile plastered on her face.

Edith was correct, the woman wasn't telling the truth, but it was better than sleeping in a treehouse.

The walls were of a dark green colour with leafs painted on, it remind her of the boy they had just got rid of, Flower boy. It had two beds with grey sheets, a dresser, a small table by the window and a thin fireplace in the corner. There were cobwebs on the lamp and the wallpaper was peeling off of the walls.

There was a squeaking sound as both Enola and Edith looked down to their feet. By Enola's feet was a brown mouse.

Edith let out an 'Uu' sound followed by "dinner!"

Enola and the woman looked at her with furrowed eyes brows.

"It- it was a joke. I've definitely not eaten a mouse before"

Enola looked back at the woman and chuckled nervously before letting out a hum "it's lovely" she lied.

Hello !

Okay, so, I've decided to skip some of the scenes that are yet to come with Enola looking for clues on her mother because this is a Tewkesbury story and he currently isn't with them. I hope you don't mind that, you've already watched the movie and know what happens so it doesn't make much difference.

I'm going to be doing these question things in a/n's from now on about anything in the book. so here's the first one:

I hope you enjoyed! Thank you for reading, Lennon
