(Y/n)'s POV

I pulled the hood over my head as I stepped into the classroom. Although I harboured no memories of my past, I knew that I just had to keep my identity hidden.

"Alright class. Today we have a student coming in. I know it's already a little into the year but please welcome her," exclaimed a dark-haired teacher.

"H-hello, my name is (Y/n). P-pleased to meet you all."

"S-s-she's so cute!"

*blush* I looked at the floor, trying to keep to myself. I had a feeling that once they knew who I really was, I wouldn't be so welcomed. I was an outcast; a loner...a fiend.

"There's a seat next to Mook at the back."

I looked up to see a boy with horns wave his hand at me. He gestured for me to go sit next to him, which I hurriedly did to avoid further unwarranted attention.

I felt his gaze on me as I placed my stuff on the desk in front of me. He placed his hand on my hood but I stopped him before he could pull it off. He slipped his hand away and looked at me with a questioning look.

"That hoodie isn't a part of the uniform," he exclaimed.

"I-I'm sorry but I can't take it off."

"Why not?"

"T-that's because...well, um..."

"*sigh* Do whatever you wish."

~After school~

A soft breeze blew past, rustling my hair and the leaves that hid me from the rest of society. The cool atmosphere and lack of humans made me feel at ease. It was almost unbearably suffocating in class.

If I was to be honest with myself...I was afraid, afraid that I'd get hurt. Every time I thought about the various scenarios in which I had randomly formed in my anxious mind, it felt like a part of my soul had been ripped apart.

The sun had begun to set, casting a soft orange glow around the garden. I breathed in the fresh air and exhaled. This was so much better than doing homework and studying...I didn't want to go...

"(Y/n)?"

I turned around and came face to face with three girls who I shared a room with. They were intimidating and made me feel insecure and unsafe. I wasn't sure how to behave around them.

"What are you? A wolf girl?" asked Casey (your roommates are made-up characters).

"N-no, this isn't w-what-"

"I think she's a werewolf," replied her sister, Jade.

"You mean those half wolf, half man things? Gross," added Sky.

I quickly pulled my hood back on but Casey took it off as soon as I had placed it over my head. A large, teasing smirk appeared on her face.

"Why don't you turn into a wolf? Does it hurt? Are you scared to turn into a monster?" she mocked.

"I-I'm not a monster..."

"Really? You can turn into a frightening animal!" Jade exclaimed.

"But that's-"

"Exactly what makes you an outcast," Sky cut in.

I backed away as they continued to walk towards me. Their continuous 'bullying' was getting on my nerves. My heartbeat increased and my palms grew sweaty as they made no attempt to stop their teasing.

Casey reached out to touch my ears, making me jump out of shock. I could feel my cheeks grow red with anger and embarrassment as she started to treat me like a pet.

"Come on, what's wrong? Does the little puppy want a treat?"

"S-stop!"

"But it's fun," Sky replied.

I tripped on a tree root and landed on my backside. The three girls towered over me. I could feel my breathing become unsteady and shallow. I couldn't breathe...

"Oi, what are you girls doing?!"

"We were just playing with her," answered Jade.

"Enough. Go back to your room."

"Tch, what a party pooper."

My vision blurred as I found myself unable to take deep breaths. What did my past self do in a situation like this? Why was I such a coward? Why didn't I know how to do anything?!

I gripped my hair and tried to replace my worrying thoughts with things that I loved...but it wasn't working. No...my hands had started to transform into paws.

"(Y/n)."

I looked up but couldn't make out the person's face.

"It's me, Mook."

"I..."

"It's okay. I won't hurt you. Just breathe."

"I-I can't-"

"Just try."

I could feel his hands grab mine as he told to slowly breath in and out. After a while, I could clearly see the concern on his face as he looked at me with a frown.

I quickly pulled my hands away and hid my ears under my hood. He did nothing to stop me as I backed away, afraid for no apparent reason. He had just helped me and yet, I was still behaving like an idiot.

"T-thank you and s-sorry."

"Are you a werewolf?" he asked calmly.

"...yeah..."

"There's no need to hide that. Those girls who mocked you are just the minority. Refund High isn't that sort of school."

"...I'm sorry."

He hesitantly reached out and pulled my hood away, letting my hair flow to the side of my face. I hugged my knees and refused to meet his gaze. The feeling of vulnerability was akin to the pain of a bullet through the chest.

His gaze remained still and lingering, making me blush a tomato red. I didn't necessarily feel a dangerous aura coming from him but it definitely did feel as if he was judging me or at least judging my behaviour.

"You-"

A loud crack of thunder could be heard in the distant. Soon enough, rain started to pour down on us and the surrounding area. I breathed a sigh of relief for this heavy rain could calm down my body.

Despite the fact that I was beginning to relax, Mook seemed to be the complete opposite of my now composed posture. Did he not like the rain? I gasped in surprise as he began to change.

In his place was now a large sea serpent looking at me as if he was afraid... M-Mook was a...sea serpent? I reached my hand out but he moved his face away, seemingly out of fear.

I curled my fingers in before taking a deep breath. I extended my hand again and slowly inched towards him. He had nowhere to move due to the overcrowded bushes and trees.

I smiled gently as he nudged me hand. Before I knew it, a giggle had escaped my mouth. He looked so adorable acting like this. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Y-you're not scared?" he asked.

"O-of course not. Why would I be scared when you're clearly not a monster?"

"You..."

"A-and besides, you look cute..."

"W-what?"

"N-nothing!"

We hid under the scarce shelter beneath the trees. The rain still managed to get through although it was reduced by a fair amount. I leaned against his body, feeling my eyelids grow heavy.

"(Y/n)?"

"I-I'm sleepy..."

He didn't respond so I assumed that he didn't mind. The cold didn't bother me and I knew that he wouldn't do anything to harm me. Falling asleep out in the open felt strangely relaxing. But just as I was drifting off, I heard Mook's voice whisper three words softly.

"Thank you...(Y/n)."
