《Human Race (Boyxboy) #1》Chapter Twenty Eight: Demon

Orion:
Sketch was a near psychotic mess by the time I found him. Never in my time had I seen a human so distraught, so broken, and had felt nothing but grief for them. His sky blue eyes met mine in a fiery dance, before casting my image away. He pulled his limp brothers into his lap, begging for the life the return to his cheeks.
Xanthe was trying to calm my little one down but the sobbing nearly drowned out any form of understanding between the two.
What a mess I walked into.
"No! Don't touch him you filthy demon!" he belted, firing a hot dagger right through my chest. "You stole him too! You've taken everything from me!"
I fell to my knees before him, taking his sunken face in my hand. "He's not dead."
He shook his head in disbelief trying to show me his brothers face, but wiped his tears away with my thumb drawing his attention once more.
"No! He....snapped Sammy's....neck. He...killed my brother! My..."
To prove my words, purple flame gathered around the wound and spread slowly over the young mans body like gasoline. Sketch gasped in disbelief but didn't let go even as I tried to separate them.
"Sketch, he's not dead. I made him immortal, so he can spend the rest of his life with me. So we can be happy." He said softly, trying to calm Sketch but the look on his face hurt me more than his crying. He looked so lost, so helpless. Xantbe pulled Sam into his arms as our vampiric magic flowed through the humans body giving him new life.
"W-what? Sammy is a vampire? H-he's a monster?" His words shattered me into a million pieces. He thought I was a monster? He thought that lowly of me...of us?

We don't kill people, we protect them. We help them, save them from the real monsters of the outside world. Sure there are a few apples but nothing as extreme as killing innocence.
Sketch grabbed onto his brothers arm and what normally would have been burned by our magic seemed to float merely around his hand in a disarray of illusion. His glare protruded into the older vampire with nothing but hatred as he shielded his older brother with his own body.
"You can't take him from me," he spat, now switching to glare at me.
"Sketch when Sam wakes up, he's going to be hungry. And I know you do not want to see that." Xanthe said.
"No! No! No! It's your fault that this happened! Why did this happen? Why would you do this?" he demanded but Xanthes eyes were almost sad by the accusation.
"I love him...." his mismatched eyes were soft as he took in the flickering form of the human. His vampiric instincts were in full drive, wanting to pull his new beloved close to his arms. I could sense it
"Baby, let go of Sam. He is going to need Xanthe when he wakes up and it won't be pretty if he doesn't feed the right way. So baby please, you can see him when he wakes up."
He looked at me with those hopeful eyes, before looking back down at his brother.
"Okay." he whispered, bringing his lips to Sam's forehead. Then he turned to Xanthe and glared. "I want to see him when he's awake, promise me."
"I promise." Xanthe nodded, caressing Sam's blond locks from a his forehead. Xanthe grabbed Sam's body gently, pulling him back to his arms to cradle him. Then with a whisper of the wind the pair had disappeared.

I was happy when the twins showed up first, Ethan picking up the small girl and carrying her off. Ean went down the opposite way probably looking for more of the humans.
"When Xanthe has him in control, then we can see him soon." I said squeezing him into my chest as we made our way down the hallway, looking for any other humans. Not finding any, we took the chance to slip back into our chambers so we could spend a little time together.
He played with the hem of my shirt, before laying his head on my shoulder exhausted from today's events.
These elites somehow lured the guards away or might have even killed them, but I didn't really care. All that mattered was my boy cuddled in my arms.
I placed him down on the bed into a sitting position, wiping his final tears from his cheeks.
I wrapped the blanket around his smaller frame, making sure he was warm and comfortable before I washed up. He sniffled softly, grabbing my arm and looking up at me with those crystal eyes.
"Can you lay with me?" he asked softly.
I nodded and laid down pulling his body into my embrace. He snuggled into my chest, resting his head on my shoulder.
"Sam's going to hate himself." he whispered digging his nose into the crook of my neck.
"Maybe. But he'll get over it in time." I said softly, running my fingers through his soft hair.
"I would hate myself too." he whispered softly.
"Sketch...do you hate me?" I asked.
"No...not you. I just don't like the monster a vampire can become."
"So you would hate to become a vampire?"
"No, I would hate to become a monster."
"Monsters take all shapes and forms, what makes me any different my dear?"
He shifted slightly, holding onto me tighter. He moved his hips slightly, so his front was hugging my side. I felt a soft kiss at the base of my neck, a timid one that made me smile. He did it again, trying a little bit harder this time.
"I didn't mean to call you a monster or a demon..." he whispered.
"I know."
"What's going to happen to the people in the suits that wanted me to go with them?" he asked.
"If we find them all, I'll hold them in the cells below, then I'll interrogate them."
"What for?" he asked.
"To find out where the rest of them are." I said.
"Then what would you do with them?"
"Why are you asking so many questions?"
"I just don't want you to hurt them." he whispered.
"I won't, you can trust that I would never," I brushed his hair to the side, kissing his head.
In no time my sweet little Sketch was sound asleep, and his dreams had overtaken him. I smiled, laying there with my little beauty thinking on our past, present and future.
I would stay with him as he slept and control his dreams so he wouldn't have any nightmares.
But not even I can control inner demons.
