《Far Too Little (Age Regression)》43. Detour

Me and David spent the entirety of the day brainstorming and planning our first family trip. We briefly entertained the idea plane travel but eventually ruled it out. Wren wasn't exactly 'ready' to be going on a plane.
We agreed it'd be a road trip, not insanely long, luxurious yet family and cost friendly.
After ages and ages, and one mini fight, we finally decided our plan.
See I wanted to go to a hotel and feel fancy, David wanted to relax and ignore the outside world for a bit, while Wren.. Wren had only 2 simple requests.
He wanted to see some 'nanymals'
And he wanted 'cuggles'
So we had to meet those requirements as well.
In the end we decided on a resort style hotel that was a solid few hours drive away. We'd spend a couple of nights there and maybe explore the town around it a bit.
So there we were, me and wren were packing his bags while David was running around double checking everything.
Wren was crawling around on the rug picking out what toys to bring, while I was doing the same for his clothes. It probably would've made more sense to pack his clothes in with mine or David's to save on space, but wren liked having his own bags and the bag wasn't even that big so it made no different.
Wren was only dressed a puffy white diaper and some fluffy socks. I should probably fix that.
"Wren baby, come 'ere"
Wren turned from his toybox and cautiously stood, steadying himself before waddling at me. I squatted and he threw himself at me, wrapping his arms around my neck.
"Daddyyyyyyyyyy"
He drew out, giggling.
"Wrennyyyyy"
I mimicked him as I picked him up. He squealed and squirmed as I started nuzzling him.
"Alright darling, let's get you dressed"
Wren whined.
"Buh I no wan geh dessed"
He puffed out hi cheeks in annoyance and I chuckled.
"Ok fine, we'll finish packing first, but then I'm getting a onesie on you, you messer"
I blew a raspberry on wrens exposed tummy and he shrieked in giggles. I laughed too and carried Wren over to the open wardrobe and small suitcase I'd been filling.
"I'm nearly done here but I want you to pick some things you like to wear. What makes you feel comfy baby bear?"
I asked while bouncing wren a little. He fiddled with his fingers before answering.
"I wike bear one-y, an my pwincess dwess an Dadas hoodie"
He hid his face in my hoodie at the last one. I gushed over him.
"Aww those are all great choices little bat, I'll be sure to put them in"
I messed with wrens hair and he giggled. I took out the last things I needed to pack and knelt down next to the open suitcase. Wren got comfy and rested on my shoulder as I finished packing up his stuff.
Finally I was zipping up the bag.
"All done!"
Wren clapped at my cheer and I kissed his forehead
David must've heard us as he came into the nursery
"So I hear you're done?- oh, this doesn't look all that done"
He sniggered and I looked around, realising wren had made quite the mess trying to figure out what to bring.
"I'll have you know im done with my bit-"
I indicated towards the small turquoise suitcase.
"-and Wrens just about done"
Wren nodded as I took his fingers that had somehow worked into his mouth, out.
"Wow bubba, can you show us what you've got so far?"

Wren slipped away from me and crawled towards his special backpack, grabbing it and turning towards us.
"Um, is gots my cwayons"
He pulled out his big box of crayons
"An poppy pop"
He showed off a fidget toy.
"An um-"
Wren looked down sorta dedjectedly
"Dats it... hawd to pack"
David was trying not to laugh as I comforted wren.
"Well thats still very good baby bear, me and Papa would be happy to help you finish"
"Right baby"
Wren smiled and we began the last bit of packing.
"Stuffies?"
"Of course you can bring your stuffies sweetie, but they're a bit big for your bag, we might put them in the backseat with you"
"Oki"
Wren said as he continued on with his method of taking pretty much everything out of his toybox to decide what he wanted. David had to intervene.
"Wren, remember we have to clean this up afterwards, and cleaning's not much fun is it?"
Wren pouted a little but stopped throwing things out.
"Well unless you're daddy"
David quipped and wren giggled. I pulled a fake frown and acted all offended. David chuckled and looked to the clock up on the wall.
"How about we put a colouring book in wren, can't use your crayons much without something to colour"
Wren nodded enthusiastically, I added on.
"And maybe some normal books, we need something for storytime"
Wren babbled and tried to suck on his fingers again, David quickly stopping and giving him a 'little one' pacifier.
We put in the books and wren gathered some smaller toys to bring. Just some wooden figures and blocks, as well as his jingly ball.
"An-an tiawa!"
Wren exclaimed, putting his favourite tiara in the bag before I zipped it.
"Oh how could I forget"
Wren hugged his bag to his chest and babbled.
"So that's all done, if you get this one dressed quickly we can be out and on the road in 10- wait"
David cut himself off.
"What's up?"
I asked him, while lifting wren up to the changing table.
David shooed me aside and opened up the changing table cabinet. He hummed.
"As I though, yeah we need to take a quick detour to the shops to pick up a few things. Diapers included"
I took a look in the cabinet and there was only half a packet. I frowned, usually we were more prepared than this. David kept talking, more to himself as I instructed him to grab a onesie while I changed wren.
"We'll need two full packets and we can buy more later if needs be"
Wren blushed and whined. I hushed his whines with coos and nuzzles and he went right back to happy.
I taped up the fresh diaper, giving wren's tummy a rub before taking the onesie off David.
It was just a simple grey short sleeved onesie. So I ordered David to once more fetch me wrens cream sprinkle jumper, which he did, and I got wren dressed. Finishing by adding a clip to his paci
"Are we ready baby bear? Are we?"
I spoke to wren in a baby coo as I lifted him and bounced him on my hip. He babbled nothing in particular back at me and I kissed his temple.
I turned to David
"Is the car all ready to go?"
"Yup, all it needs is wrens things and us"
We wooped and chanted for the beginning of our first family trip as we walked out to the car.
I strapped wren into his car seat as David layed the stuffed animals next to him. Wren fidgeted with his hands and squirmed worriedly. I stayed leaned in next to him.

"What's going on baby bear?"
Wren whimpered
"Don wanna go ta da 'hops... scawy"
I rubbed wren's cheek and gave him a little nuzzle.
"Oh there's no need to worry baby bat, how about I stay in the car with you while Papa goes into the shops"
Wren smiled at me and nodded, I kissed his forehead.
I then noticed the look David was giving me from across the car. He walked around to me.
"I'm just gonna talk to Papa real quick darling, won't be a second"
Wren mumbled an ok and I shut the car door to face my disapproving husband.
"Ricky"
He began, in his deep 'listen to me' voice
"Yes my darling dear David doll?"
"I don't think it's a good idea, wren staying in the car with you"
"Why?"
"Ricky this is a perfect opportunity to get wren used to more public spaces, we can't always stay in the car with him."
"But what if he doesn't take it well, I don't want to start off our trip like that"
"Well we don't know about the what ifs until we actually try, we have to have a bit of faith"
I groaned
"Ugh I hate when your right"
David chuckled
"It just happens so often, it must be frustrating for such a simple mind"
David teased as I walked around to the passenger seat.
"Watch it you"
We both got in the car and David joked
"Haven't even started the car and we're already at eachothers throats"
I kissed his cheek
"Yup"
We turned around to face the little
"Princess me and daddy have agreed that you're coming into the store with us"
Wrens smile dropped, replaced by a look of disappointment and worry. I began rubbing wrens leg to comfort as he sadly uttered out.
"Buh, scawy people"
I reasoned with wren
"Darling, were all going in together and while I doubt anyone will try bother us, if anyone ever did we'd surely show em what's what"
I mimed doing little punches and wren half giggled. David also reassured.
"And It'll just be quick bubba, I really need you and daddy inside to help me shop"
"Yeah baby, well be in and out like that-"
I snapped my fingers
"-and Papa's just a bit useless when it comes to shopping"
I smirked at David and he looked like he was about to frown, but wrens sudden turn to giggles made him smile.
"Then we'll be on our way to the hotel in no time at all"
"Lotel!"
Wren cheered, making me and David laugh. And on that happy note we started our drive, heading straight for our shopping set detour.
David was quick once we arrived to park and jump out to grab a cart, being true to his word of it being just a quick detour and leaving me to take care of the scared little bean. I opened the backdoor to find Wren, having seemingly given up on his paci and taken to mouthing on his fingers.
"Baby bear, wouldn't you much rather have a teether"
Wren looked up at me with his big teary eyes and nodded still keeping his fingers in his mouth though.
I grabbed a teether out of the nearby diaper bag and gave it to wren. He happily switched yet still fidgeted and kept his worried look.
"Dada"
He stuttered
"Bad tots"
"Oh my sweet little boy"
I whispered as I unclipped him from the seat, grabbing topsy as I lifted wren up into my arms. I kissed all over Wrens face, making him smilr a little and handed him topsy, who he clung to.
"You're going to be fine baby bear. Can you trust Daddy with that?"
Wren hesitantly nodded his head as I wiped away his last tear. He rested his head on my shoulder and sniffled.
"And thank you for telling me darling, you're so brave"
I nuzzled and bounced him a little as we walked over to the front of the store, meeting David as he stood there with cart, looking at something on his phone.
"Alright, let's move quickly so we can get on the road as soon as we can"
He looked up and noticed wren.
"Hey now, what's up with my princess"
Wren chewed on his teething ring and looked down, I whispered a quick 'bad thoughts' to David before answering for wren in a more positive tone.
"Little bit nervous but we're gonna be just fine"
David nodded his head in understanding before giving wrens hair a pet.
"Well thats ok, and if this little one is good inside, a cookie might be in store"
Wren looked up at him, speaking around his teether.
"Cookie?"
"Keep up the good behavior darling, and it's as good as yours"
Wren smiled to himself and I went to place him in the cart seat. He whined a bit and held onto my hand, still seeming quite nervous. I reassured him.
"Its ok baby bear. Don't you wanna sit in your special seat? its just for you"
I reasoned and David helped.
"It's just like a carriage isn't it bubba?"
Wren cocked his head at us. while still holding onto my hand. I rubbed his little hand with my thumb.
"And this little princess has got his trusty daddy-horses to carry him around and keep him safe, on his little princess supermarket quest "
"Yay!"
Wren quietly squealed and I smiled, giving him another cheek kiss.
"Ok, you ready to go in baby bear?"
"Go horsies go!"
Wren chanted and we began our wonderous quest through the shops, wren seemingly distracted by his teether and David making silly faces.
÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷
I swung my legs in my special princess seat while daddy daddy pushed me up and down the long lanes.
The idea of going into the store sounded really scary to me, I mean Daddy and Papa always talk about all the people they meet at the shops. I just wanted to stay with my stuffies and my toys and daddy and papa in my safe little bubble.
I didn't want to meet all these, and they're probably all mean, most people are meanies so shop proplr probably are too.
But being in the shops with Daddy and papa (along with topsy) there to help me be brave it wasn't so bad.
Nobody came up to us and if anyone ever came close Papa would start asking me questions, like what flavour milk was my favourite or which animal would be the best hugger. And by the time I'd finished the stranger would be gone and I forgot why I was even worried .
I also discovered that I am an incredible shopper person!
Daddy was letting me make big important decisions, and they weren't even that hard!"
"Ok baby boy, we need a packet of snack puffs, red or blue?"
Daddy held put two packets for me to choose from, I liked making this kind of choice. It was easy and daddy and papa said all my decisions were the best.
"Um... wed!"
"Good job bubba!"
Papa congratulated me as we walked. I babbled happily and went back to chewing on my teether.
We turned the corner and I gasped, gazing up in awe at the rows of brightly coloured sweets. Daddy and Papa laughed at my astonishment.
I looked to them in shock, I'd never seen this many different treats. I recognised some jamies house, the type their Daddy would only allow us one each. But Jamie always snuck some more.
"Here bubba-"
Papa took hold of the front of the cart and pulled me over to some familiar looking ones.
"We need some road trip jellies, don't you agree?"
I nodded my head excitedly.
Daddy took two bags from the shelves. I readied myself for another decision, hugging topsy close.
"Your choice darling, peach or apple"
Daddy held out packets of jelly rings. I immediately realised that this decision was going to be extra hard.
Apple stuff always tastes really good, but the peachy one was pink! Pink tastes nice and looks really pretty.
I battled between the two options for a while before deciding.
"Bouf"
I said before biting back down on my teether.
Daddy laughed and turned to papa
"David dear, the princess wants both, what should we do?"
"Well the Princess gets what he wants, does he not?"
Papa confused me a bit, but then both packets were put in the cart so I clapped my hands happily. Daddy awed at me and gave me tons of kisses on my face, I giggled and squirmed.
Papa started looking through the cart of stuff.
"Do we need anything else?"
Daddy shrugged and papa scratched the back of his, when he suddenly exclaimed.
"Oh! Diapers, how could I forget-"
He almost laughed but I started to whine, blushing a little while hiding my face behind topsy.
No matter what, i think I'll always be embarrassed about wearing my diapers. Daddy and Papa always console me though, I like it when they do that.
Papa put his arm around me and rubbed while daddy nuzzles my face. I like getting nuzzlies and hugs from them, it made everything seem ok.
"Oh such a good little baby bat we have here, such a cute little one"
Daddy cooed and I started to forget my embarrassment. Daddy picked me up and started bouncing me on his hip, I left topsy down though, she likes our special seat.
It was then I realised that we weren't alone in the sweet aisle. There was another family, with a girl running around. Her mommy was looking at me. She was awing at me.
"Oh he's adorable! You two are so lucky"
I immediately hid my face in Daddy's shoulder, whining. I heard her start to laugh and i turned to whimpers.
I felt Daddy's hand running through my hair, I leant into his touch.
"You're alright baby bear, she just thought you were cute darling and she's going now, nothing to be scared of"
I refused to reveal my face despite Daddy's coaxings. What if there were more people out there. What if they try talking to us again, I don't like it. New people are mean.
I let out a tiny sob
Papa sighed.
"Bubba-"
I felt his hand on my back, rubbing small circles.
"Are we done with the supermarket?"
I nodded into daddy and let out another small wimper and a quiet
"Wrenny sowwy"
I felt daddy squeeze me in a hug before I was passed off. I whined at first but was soon met by Papa, who I clung to.
"You have absolutely nothing to be sorry about bubba, you've been nothing but good today and we're so proud"
"Exactly darling"
I felt daddy kiss the back of my head, Papa encased me in a hug and I melted.
"Now I think you owe a very brave little princess a cookie"
"Quite right Ricky- wren?"
I peeped up at daddy and papa, they smiled warmly.
"Is our brave little princess up for a cookie?"
I nodded a bit more enthusiastically, Papa chuckled and then addressed daddy.
"Ok so I'll take the princesses to go get his cookie, my coffee, and you get the diapers"
"Grand, I'll only be a few seconds, I'll be over there after"
Daddy yelled after us
"Get me a latte!!"
Me and Papa laughed.
Papa carried me back through the store, retracing the steps of our earlier route. We got to the front and exit of the shop, but Papa took a sudden left.
There was a pretty big coffee and cake counter. I was surprised I didn't notice it before.
Me and Papa stood in a line with lots of people. I curled up with my head on his shoulder to try keep safe.
I looked over Papa's shoulder to the women behind us in line.
She smiled at me, she didn't say anything just smiled and gave me a little wave. I squeaked in surprise and recoiled back before giving a tiny wave to return the favour.
I felt the vibrations of papa chuckling, and blushed, covering up my face. Papa moved me so I that he can look at me. He smiled and kissed the side of my head.
We moved steadily up the line, I kept myself busy chewing on my teether until eventually we reached the top. A weird looking man with holes in his ears asked Papa.
"What can I get for you?"
Papa leaned down to the glass case, displaying different baked goods. He pointed to the many types of cookies
"Well Princess, which one do you like the look of?"
There was alot of options and it scared me for a split second, I nearly asked Papa to choose. But then I remembered how good my choices have been today, I might as well keep going, right?
"Um wrenny- ah-I wike um"
Papa rubbed my arm and asked soothingly.
"What does wrenny like?
There were so many different types of cookies. They had ones with little rainbows and one I'd never even heard of. I pondered over the options before spotting one I'd definitely had before and knew I'd like.
"Ch-ch-ch-"
"Chocolate chip?"
Papa finished for me. I nodded, putting my teether back in my mouth as I think I had done well enough talk in public for the day.
Papa stood back up fully and addressed the holey eared man
"One latte, one flat white and cookie thank you"
The man nodded before realising something and saying it to Papa.
"The cookies come free with any hot drink, so you can get another one for free"
Papa bounced me as I started fidgeting
"That sounds perfect, just another chocolate chip, thanks"
