《Everlasting ღ Newt TMR¹》25. Dramatic Effect

--------------------------
Gally looks terrible. His eyes are burning and rabid. His clothes were disgusting, and his hair looked to be matted in many places.
He looked around, as if searching for something in particular. Eventually, he dropped the poor girl, whoever she was, and fell to his knees. The whole room was in complete silence, the darkness there to accompany it. The fact is that the two had came out of no where, and maybe nobody felt that they were really there.
That's how messed up we are, I internally sigh.
All of a sudden, Gally was screaming, spit flying in all directions. Good thing we weren't trying to avoid being found or whatever. "They'll kill you! The Grievers will kill you all - one every night till it's over!"
All the Gladers stood still as statues, their shock at our current predicament, obviously has not completely registered. I look to Newt, to see his mouth slightly agape.
By the time I look back to Gally, he has staggered to his feet, and is slowly walking, limping on his right leg.
Gally walked over and stood a few feet away from Thomas, Newt and I, Newt in the centre of us other two.
His eyes raged as he pontes an accusing finger at Thomas.
"You", his voice somehow managed to be even more sickening then his current appearance. "It's all your fault!" Gally clumped his left hand into a fist, and without a moments notice, swung it into the side of Thomas' head, connecting with his ear.
The room remains silent as I gasp in shock. Thomas is jumping back to his feet as Gally turns to me. "And you," he points, "You're no better than he is. I know you're helping him."
As he raises his hand, I crouch in preparation, while Newt seems to finally have fallen out of his stupor, pushing Gally away from me.
Gally stumbled backwards, crashing into a desk next to the window and tumbling a lamp off of it in the process. He quickly straightened up and took us all in.
He began to speak, much quieter than the last time. "It can't be solved. The shuck Maze'll kill all you shanks . . . The Grievers'll kill you . . . One every night till it's over . . . I . . . It's better this way." He seemed saddened as his eyes dropped towards the floor.

"They'll only kill you one a night . . . Their stupid Variables . . . "
My eyes widen at his latest statement. . Thomas said I was one of those. But what does that even mean? How am I a Variable?
"Gally, shut your bloody hole - there's a Griever right out the window. Just sit on your butt and be quiet - maybe it'll go away" Newt hisses at Gally, before he could make any more strange remarks.
Gally narrowed his eyes toward Newt, "You don't get it, Newt. You're too stupid - you've always been too stupid"
Hold up, did he just call my boyfriend stupid? Wait, boyfriend? We're not even official are we? You know what, this really isn't the time to figure this out.
"There's no way out - there's no way to win! They're gonna kill you, all of you - one by one!" Screaming the last word with frustration.
Geez, I can not catch a break, can I?
He lashed out at the window, tearing at the wooden boards as quickly as he can, like he needs air, and he can only get it in the other side of that window. No one did anything, until he tore off the first board.
"No!" Newt yells across the room, as he runs at Gally. Thomas followed to help, but did not get there in time.
Gally rips another board off, and sings it backwards with both hands. Unfortunately, on the way, it connected with Newt's head, sending him straggling across the room and tumbling on the bed.
The specks of blood that shower the bed sheet rip a blood curdling scream of his name right out of me. Within seconds, I am by his side, cradling his head in my lap. My pulse starts to rise as I realize he's out cold. What if he doesn't wake up?
Thomas still stood near the estranged boy, "Gally! What're you doing?"
"You shut your shuck-face, Thomas. You shut up! I know who you are, and her, but I don't care anymore. I can only do what's right."
Thomas didn't even move as Gally ripped away the last of our defense. As soon as it was removed, glass was sprayed inwards everywhere. Those who had seen what was happening had fallen to the floor and covered their faces to avoid the crystal ambush.
Whilst they all yelp as the glass is discarded throughout the room, I sit straight and take it. I feel sharp sensations of pain over the surface of my skin, where the glass engraves its mark.

When it is over, we all come to terms with the real issue. The ugly slug crawling through the window.
By the time it is halfway in, almost all the Gladers have ceased to remain in the room, evacuating into the hallway. Everyone except Gally, Thomas, Newt and myself.
The Griever seemed to have stopped trying to get in for the moment, letting it's metal arm do its work. The claw reached into the room - heading straight for Newt and I. I let out a small yell, getting Thomas' attention. I notice his eyes raking the room, in search of a weapon.
"No one ever understood!" Gally manages to scream over the deafening noise of the scene around them all.
"No one ever understood what I saw, what the Changing did to me! Don't go back to the real world, Thomas! You don't . . . want . . . to remember!"
With one last look around the room, Gally leaped into the the writhing body of the hideous Griever. The metal arms that were headed towards Newt and I, immediately retracted and clamped onto the boy's limbs, so there was no way of helping him, nor of him escaping.
The monstrosity leaves the room, Gally along with it. Thomas runs over to the remains of the window and looks out. His expression is worrying, as he looks nauseous. But then, something else. Concern? Confusion? Shock? All of the above?
And all of a sudden, he is shouting at someone to stop - to not enter the Maze.
I didn't even have to wait for him to scream his name, to know it is Minho running after the Grievers.
//////////
Within seconds, Thomas was out the door, leaving Newt and I alone.
"Please Newt, wake up. If you're taking your damn time for some twisted idea of dramatic effect, I swear it, I'll put you in a coma myself." I whisper to the unresponsive body.
That reminds me, that girl is still beside the doorway. What am I supposed to do with two unconscious people?
"Hey, what'd I miss?" I hear someone croak. I look down, to see the dark brown eyes I'd come to love, and happiness flowed through me.
I place a quick, soft kiss upon his lips, before hitting him lightly on the chest.
"You dumb shank! You scared the life out of me!"
He grins, "Good to see you to Lor. You must really care about me if I scared you that much." His sarcasm is so palpable, I have to hold back a smile. Obviously nothing wrong with his sense of humor.
"So, catch me up. What'd I miss?"
//////////
Thomas, Newt and I stand out the front of the Door where Gally was taken, and await Minho's hopeful return.
"I can't believe Minho followed that thing" Thomas exclaims. He really needs to calm down, Minho is one of the best Runners, he'll be fine.
I stood beside Newt, as he held a white cloth up to his wounded head. Newt nods in reply, before pulling the cloth away, to take a look. I sneak a peek, only to regret so when I see the white cloth is really, really stained with his blood.
Newt groans, "Shuck it, that hurts like a mother. Minho must've finally fried his last bit of brain cells - not to mention Gally. Always knew he was crazy."
"I'm going after him" Thomas states.
"Time to be a bloody hero again?"
Before Thomas can reply with a smart ass comment, I groan, "Boys, this really isn't the time. We have bigger problems. Somebody-"
Instead of finishing, I'm cut off by none other than Thomas himself. "There he is!"
We turn to see Minh bent over, his hand on his knees.
"Thank god," I mutter more to myself than anyone else. I walk over and smack Minho over the back of his head, "What the hell were you thinking, you idiot?" I shout. That one was for everyone to hear.
"I needed to be sure . . . That it was going there" he huffs after chuckling.
"Our silence is your cue, Minho" I sass.
He smirks "I needed to be sure, that it went into the Griever Hole, and it did."
"What a night" Newt says under his breath.
After a moment, Thomas turns to me "What were you about to say, Lori?"
"The Map Room - someone burnt it down, along with all the Maps. There's also the matter of the girl that Gally brought along with him."
Thomas is headed toward the Slammer, leaving us remaining three, discussing what to do next.

Midthalion Saga
+++Working on new chapters. Share what I've posted with your friends and family! Be sure to build strong bonds with those who are important to you. We only have each other in this world for so long!+++ Can Roderick XXIII gather together and train a party of adventurers to clear out Madeon Caves and bring peace to the wildmarches of Midthalion? Sent from his home monastery in the west to the wildmarches of Midthalion, Roderick the Holy Avenger is devoted to living out his oath to bring the Holy Light to the dark corners of the world. He enlists the help of an old friend, Ulrich Vogelbrandt the dwarf druid, to train and prepare a fighting force capable of defending the west from the evil they both see gathering and growing in the east. Eoroth is an ode to Tolkienesque epic fantasy, Robert E Howard and H.P. Lovecraft's pulp fiction, and Gygaxian Dungeons & Dragons. I like to write about serious topics because I think it's fun. I hope it makes for a fun read. Place: Eoroth, a vast, flat world with many continents set in oceans that reach out and mingle with the Celestial Sea. Our story takes place on the continent of Thalion in the middle, unsettled region called Midthalion. Peoples: Races in Eoroth aren't different species; the species of man is just incredibly diverse, consisting of many known races (and perhaps some unknown). There are no humans in Thalion. Thalion's races include variations of elves, dwarves, halflings (billowits), pierros (clownish men), bergeracs (long-nosed and swarthy men of honour), orcs, trolls, goblins, and hobgobs. The Church: There's one dominant religion in Westhalion. The faith of the elves is an analogue to Roman Catholicism while the dwarves practice an Eastern Orthodox analogue. (Forgive me for not having figured out names yet.) The practitioners worship a triune god (the All-Father, Son-of-All, and Holy Light). There are many powers in heaven, all created by God. These include the Twelve High Thrones, individual, created beings who take on the role of guiding mankind in different aspects, drawing them closer and closer to God. (That should be the essentials. I could write pages on the theology. Comment where something's unclear in the story.) Natural World: There are plants and animals in Eoroth, but the world is also inhabited by spirits called aeons. Aeons are transformative beings; in the wild, they'll change based on whatever is happening nearby. Pollute a pond? Expect to see toxic toad-men running around. Leave a bunch of dead bodies strewn across a battlefield? Expect the place to become haunted with ghouls and ghasts. Druids are important for making sure that the aeons are pacified; that their needs are met so that they don't become rampaging monsters. Where the wilderness becomes overgrown, so too do the aeons. Aeons and People: Long ago, men learned how to trap aeons in stone tablets and use them for war. Now, anyone can capture an aeon into a special staff made by a druid. Men train, raise, and bond with these aeons. Druids often build entire ranches devoted to raising healthy aeons as allies and companions. Aeons are divided into twelve known families, and the church sees these as corresponding with the Twelve Thrones in Heaven. Direction: My goal is to get the story to one million words by June next year. I have tons of content in mind for the world. I want to release novels set in different ages of the world depicting different historical events. I hope to expand the setting into a tabletop role-playing game as well as a series of old-school JRPGs. But, it all begins with writing some stories and publishing my novels.

Cinder Roots (Undergoing a Rewrite)
This novel is currently undergoing a major rewrite, as I noticed several plot points that needed to be revamped. I'll leave the chapters I've posted here to anyone curious to see how everything started, but I'll be posting the rewritten story as a new novel in the future. The characters will be the same, but the journey will be more understandable and hopefully, a lot more fun to read. -------- First, everything was fire, it killed, it consumed, and it gave him life. He was just a tree, born in the biggest forest that remained in the world, full of dryads, naiads, elves and treants, but he was alone. He couldn’t see. He couldn’t talk. Curiosity plagued him. He dreamed of wandering the land, but could only wonder what stood outside the reach of his roots. The tree was tired of waiting. He decided to not just dream, but to act. How could he survive against a invading empire, a grand conspiracy that threatened to shake the foundations of the world, and the raw danger that lies within these woods? With pure determination. Warning - There are quite a few POV changes in the first chapters, but that'll change after the introduction is done, as I'll be focusing on the MC perspective only.

Life is a game, with intrusive microtransactions.
Life is a simulation. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging we are just a part of someone's dream, lines of code existing to give purpose for some machine or anything, but why would this unknown entity add microtransactions in it? Maybe because that way it can wake up faster, by consuming parts of it's dream, until... well, who cares about an unknown entity that has nothing to do with this particular story?
