《Field Trip || DNF》Chapter 12

Dream and George hadn't spoke to each other since that day, they had always made excuses when Sapnap, Karl, and Quackity had wanted to hang out at any point during the last few weeks of summer.
Now, they were back to work, barely able to interact because the busyness of "back-to-school" things. Not like either of them wanted to anyways.
At one point, Sapnap had called Dream out on it while they were out for lunch.
"I noticed you and George aren't as close anymore... Any reasoning for that?" Sapnap sipped his drink as Dream choked on his burger, quickly collecting himself.
"We're just... busy," Dream half-lied. Sapnap raised a questioning eyebrow, but didn't push him any further.
Now it was October, and principal Eret had been offered a great plan for a field trip.
"Good afternoon staff, I know you've had a busy day, so I'll cut to the chase," Eret stood in-front of his staff, "there's going to be a field trip next week to the corn mazes."
"Inform your students and make sure they're ready for next Thursday," Eret told his staff before they dispersed.
And so, over the next few days, teachers collected permission forms, checking with students who hadn't handed them in already.
"Alright guys, tomorrow is the day of the trip, so make sure you're prepared for the weather," Dream smiled as he waved his students off.
The next day, Dream's, George's, Karl's, and Sapnap's students piled onto buses, buzzing with excitement.
————
"We're here!" Dream announced to his students, and after the bus stopped, he made sure every student got off the bus.
"So... What's the plan?" Sapnap looked over George's shoulder at the clipboard he was holding.
"Um..." George was reluctant to say, "Mr. WasTaken's class and my class will be... together. And your class and Karl's."

"Great! Where are we going first?" Karl asked.
"Yours and Sapnap's group is going to Maple Corn Maze first, while Mr. WasTaken and I are going to Rapid Grove Corn Maze," George looked up at Dream, who was busy laughing at jokes his students made.
Sapnap looked at him weirdly and then shrugged, "okay, meet you back here in thirty?"
"Mhm..."
George walked over to Dream, and then turned to the students, "everyone get in groups of five, stay together, and make sure at least one of you has a phone."
"We get to off alone?" Someone asked from the back of the crowd.
"Yes, as long as you're going to be responsible about it," George answered.
"Sweet!" The same person answered and the students quickly split into groups of five like the teacher had told them to.
After they had entered the corn maze, Dream gave George a sad look, "guess it's only us now."
George ignored him, walking off into the maze. Dream's sighed, following the brunette.
"Are you gonna be cold the entire trip?" Dream asked, and George shrugged.
After walking in silence for ten minutes, Dream spoke again, "George..."
"Oh my God, what? You're so annoying, I honestly wish I was anywhere but here right now," George snapped.
"We're lost..."
"What?" George stopped walking, looking around, and Dream did the same.
"You have got to be kidding me," George glared at the blonde, who glared back, "don't you dare blame me for this!"
"I'm wasn't going to, but maybe now I will. If I wasn't so mad at you, maybe I'd pay attention to where we had been going more!" George crossed his arms.
"Oh shut up, you have no reason to be mad at me!" Dream snarled.

"Yes I do!" George protested angrily, and Dream huffed, rolling his eyes, "yeah, like what?"
"Y-you didn't call me over the summer..." George trembled, and Dream scoffed, "please, you're mocking me."
"How?" George argued, and Dream ran his fingers through his hair, "I-I don't know...?"
"George every time we argue like this... it's over your feelings towards me. Do you love me or not?" Dream wanted to know so badly. Last time George had said he didn't love him, and now...
He was complaining because he hadn't called him.
"I... I don't know what I want. Sometimes I want... you. More than you could ever know," George shakily uncrossed his arms.
"No, I do know, but I don't want someone who only wants me sometimes," Dream faltered, "you have to decide if you want to commit to me full time, because if not..."
"...We're done forever, no more playing hard to get, or whatever game you're playing with me George."
"I'm not playing a game Dream," George cried, "I just... I'm scared."
"Of what?" Dream scoffed.
"Of just... being in a relationship. People will know and it's just so... overwhelming." George stammered.
"Why didn't you tell me that Georgie?" Dream's voice softened, and he pulled the shorter man in for a hug.
"I don't know..." he mumbled.
"We don't have to let people know..." Dream murmured, and George pushed himself away, "yeah, but then it feels like a secret. Something we shouldn't be doing."
"Then let's tell Sapnap? We can trust him," Dream suggested, and George nodded slowly, "o-okay..."
"Um Dream?" George looked up at him, "what are we then...?"
"Well, I'd say we're dating," the blonde smiled and George smiled back, and then frowned, "we're still lost-"
Dream groaned, "don't remind me."
"Well then we wouldn't get out of here," George sighed, taking out his phone.
"Oh... Sapnap's called me several times," George pressed the "call back" button, and put the phone up to his ear.
"Dude, where are you?" Sapnap almost yelled in his ear, and George giggled, "we're uh... lost."
"Are you kidding me?" Sapnap sighed, "fine, I'll come find you."
Sapnap hung up, and less than fifteen minutes later, he found the two teachers.
"Well hello there," Dream waved sheepishly.
"Come on," Sapnap gestured for them to follow him.
After they were finally out, it was time for a lunch break.
————
"Wait really?" Sapnap's eyes were wide, looking back and forth between Dream and George.
Dream nodded, smiling, "mhm! We're really dating."
"That's great you guys!" Sapnap hugged Dream, and then George.
"Just don't go around telling everyone," George added and Sapnap groaned.
"Not even Karl and Quackity?" Sapnap asked, and Dream looked at George who shrugged, "I guess you can tell them... but no one else!"
"Yes! Thank you!" Sapnap did a fist pump.
George and Dream smiled at each other.
Finally there would be no more arguments about their very difficult relationship.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion.
