"How did they find us?"

"I don't know. We've got to get her out of here. They want her."

"You take her. I'll hold them off as long as I can."

"No, you go. I'll stay behind."

The brown haired man grabbed the Togruta female by the shoulders. "Ahsoka, if she is as powerful as you say she is, she will need someone who can train her. I can't. I don't know anything about the Force. She needs her mother."

Ahsoka glanced at the sleeping Togruta in the cradle, then back at the man. "Lux Bonteri, I am not..."

"There's no time. They'll break in any minute. Get to the ship and go."

Ahsoka drew in a deep breath and quickly kissed Lux. "We both love you." She drew a lightsaber off her belt and grabbed the baby. Lux rushed and grabbed a blaster pistol for each hand. Ahsoka paused only once, glancing back at him.

"Just go!" He waved a hand vigorously.

There was a loud banging on the door. "Open up! You are harboring fugitives of the Empire. Any resistance will be futile."

"Then come in and get them!" Lux taunted.

Ahsoka ignited her lightsaber and bolted out onto the rooftop landing pad. Several Imperial stormtroopers waited, blasters trained on her and the child. She heard faint sounds echoing from within the apartment below her, then Lux burst through the door. He quickly blasted the keypad next to it, sealing the door shut.

"Ahsoka Tano and Lux Bonteri, you are under arrest for crimes against the Galactic Empire. You are to be executed and the child is to be taken to Lord Vader," the commanding trooper said.

"Vader will never touch my daughter," Ahsoka growled. She reversed her white lightsaber in her hand, squaring off. Lux set a new charge in each of his blaster pistols.

"Open fire!" Th squad of troopers began blasting at them, with no pause between volleys.

Ahsoka pulled the Force around her, enveloping herself in its calming currents. She deflected bolt after bolt, working her way forward. The child in her arms looked around, whimpering. Ahsoka quickly shushed her and continued pressing forward. Lux blasted at the troopers, following behind Ahsoka.

Ahsoka reached out with the Force, scattering the stormtroopers all over the landing pad, rendering them unconscious. She paused on the ship's boarding ramp, panting. She deactivated her lightsaber and replaced it on her belt. Then she held a hand out to Lux. He grasped it firmly, smiling at her as she pulled him forward. The echo of a blaster bolt rang out.

"Lux!" Ahsoka cried out.

He looked down at the black carbon scoring that razed through his chest. His wide brown eyes searched Ahsoka's blue ones as he slowly crumpled to the ground. His hand fell limply from her grasp. The baby began crying, obviously sensing its mothers distress.

Ahsoka fought back her tears as she rolled Lux's body off the ramp and closed it. She held their child close and ran to the cockpit, preparing to take off. She passed the child into the hands of their family protocol droid. She lifted off the landing pad just as more stormtroopers arrived. She fed more power into the thrusters and they jettisoned the city. Ahsoka entered a set of coordinates into the navicomputer and activated the hyperdrive. The stars blurred before her, then disappeared as they left Onderon far behind them.

The young girl had a blast helmet covering her eyes. She held a miniature lightsaber in one hand and a small round blaster droid hovered in front of her. The droid shot a laser beam at her and the girl quickly deflected it.

"You're doing well. Let's make it a little harder," Ahsoka said to her small pupil. She turned the dial on the droid to a harder level.

The bolts of energy came faster and with more of a sting now. The girl deflected them all. She lifted the blast shield off her face. "How did I do, Mom?"

"You did great." Ahsoka beamed at her daughter.

"When can I build my own lightsaber? I don't like using this little one." The girl passed the small sword into her mother's outstretched hand.

"When you are old enough. I still have to find a planet with kyber crystals first."

The Togruta girl sighed. "Ok. Will I at least get to meet Dad again soon?"

Ahsoka stiffened slightly. "Sit down." The girl glanced at her mother anxiously. She quickly obeyed. Ahsoka sat down beside her. "I should have told you sooner, but you were too young to understand." Their blue eyes mirrored each other's for a moment. "Your father died when we escaped Onderon."

"What?" The child's eyes widened with shock. "He's dead?"

Ahsoka nodded. "He saved our lives. It was at the last minute. We were boarding the ship, when one of the stormtroopers shot him. We didn't know any of them were still conscious."

The girl gulped slightly, lips quivering. "Will you tell me about him?" She whispered.

"His name was Lux Bonteri. He was a fighter and he always stood for what's right. When I first met him, I was a Padawan learner. He was the son of Senator Mina Bonteri of Onderon. They were within the Separatist Alliance during the Clone Wars. Lux and I took a few missions together when he began his life as a freedom fighter." She chuckled to herself a bit. "Once, we were captured by Death Watch on Concordia, one of Mandalore's moons. He covered for us by saying I was his betrothed."

The girl laughed too. "Did you ever really get married?"

Ahsoka smiled sadly. "No. We had planned to, but then we had you and got distracted trying to hide you from the Empire. We were going to get married on Alderaan by a friend of mine, Bail Organa." Ahsoka glanced at her daughter. "If you are ever in a desperate situation, contact Bail. He'll help you if you tell him who you are."

"Bail Organa. Got it." The girl thought for a minute. "Is that why you make me use the last name of Bonteri? You never let me go by Tano, like you."

Ahsoka nodded. "Yes. You would have had your dad's name even if we had been married. It's sort of a last homage to Lux. You are all that's left of him now."

The girl sat up a little straighter. "I'll be the best Bonteri there was!"

Ahsoka laughed. "Yes, you will."

Ahsoka ignited her white lightsabers and pushed her daughter behind her. "Don't move. You let me handle them."

"But, Mom, I can help."

"No! You stay there!"

There was faint ticking from the hallway outside. The door erupted into flames and was blown into smithereens. Stormtroopers barged into the apartment and began blasting at them. Ahsoka deflected the bolts with her sabers and used the Force to turn the blasts away from them. The girl behind her stretched out her hands and used the Force to turn the trooper's blasters at themselves.

"No! Don't!" Ahsoka countered her daughter's powers and saved the troopers just as their blasters went off. Ahsoka whirled on her daughter. "Never use the Force to kill someone! That is the surest way to lose yourself in the Dark Side." The girl cowered, obviously remorseful for disappointing her mother. Ahsoka turned back and leapt into the midst of the fray, taking down the trooper's one by one.

The girl felt a cold and dark presence approaching. "Mom!" She cried. Ominous breathing filled the room. Ahsoka backed away towards her daughter slowly.

"Give me the girl," the monster said.

"I will never!" Ahsoka jumped towards him, lightsabers glowing. The man/machine whipped out a lightsaber of his own and countered her attack. He used the Force to push Ahsoka away and drew a blaster into his hand. He blasted her in the chest. Ahsoka stared at her daughter for a moment. "Run!" She whispered, before she slumped to the ground.

"Mom!" The girl yelled.

"Come quietly, child," the Dark Lord commanded.

She pulled her mother's discarded lightsabers into her grasp and whirled on the man. "You hurt her!"

"Stupid child. I killed her!" The voice seethed with rage and fury.

He used the Force to drag her to his grasp. His hand closed around her small throat and she gasped for air. The lightsabers fell from her grasp. The Sith Lord passed a hand over her brow, rendering unconscious, as well as erasing every memory that had ever found its way into her mind. He slung the girl over his shoulder and stalked out of the room, leaving behind his former apprentice.

Ahsoka vaguely saw him leave, carrying her daughter with him. She stretched her hand after them, shakily. "Ania..." she whispered before everything went dark.
