"Weak!"
"Stupid!"
"Useless!"
"Disappear you loser!"
"Why can't you just die?!?!"
I hold back my tears. My tears that is the sign of my pain. Physically and Emotionally.
Oh! My name's Fiona Frauenfeld. I'm 17 years old.
I get bullied everyday. Wearing long sleeved shirts, letting my hair cover my bruised face. But still, I get high grades, the teachers are all stunned, but never stood up for me.
One of the students bullying me is the daughter of the owner of the school. Once a teacher stood up for me, they're fired.
Then, the bell rang, signaling that we should go back to class. It's like a daily routine. I kept quiet, recite when necessary, and get teased anytime possible.
"Miss Frauenfeld." The teacher called me. I stood up, mumbling a small, 'Yes?'.
"Name the chemist who published the periodic table."
"Dmitri-" Right before I finished my answer, someone interrupted me.
"Dmitri Mendeleev." Tiffany said. She's one of those students who bullies me. Not to mention, her father is the founder of this school.
She's a blonde. Her whole gang are blonde. It's one of the reasons why she hates me. She said, 'Blondes are so far from Brunettes. You're ugly unlike us'.
"What? You told me I should became active in reciting. Wouldn't it be a good time now?" She said, seeing the faces of the whole class. This is not the first time. She keeps on interrupting me, trying to make cry.
No way am I gonna cry. Not now, not ever!
« Time Skip »
Here I am again, the backyard of the campus. I was actually happy to be alone, but then...
"Aww! Look at that! Is Fiona alone? Why don't we give her some company?" Tiffany said, acting pitiful for me.
"Yeah! I think we should. Can't you see her sad face?"

Then the punches and kicks started.
*CLICK!!!*
Wait. Did I just heard something clicked?
I shook the thought off.
No one cares for me anyway. Who would dare take a picture if their gonna be against the daughter of the school founder?
« Time Skip: The Next Day »
I walked to school, like what I usually do. But then, not everything today is what it was before...everyone's whispering and staring at me.
What now?
"Are you the one who's bashing me?!?! DO YOU FINALLY HAVE THE GUTS TO FIGHT BACK?!?!" Someone suddenly yelled at me.
I looked at the owner of the voice...but I immediately regretted it.
Tiffany and her gang.
I felt her pull my hair, their glares stabbing me on the back.
"Are you the one who did this?!?!" Tiffany said, with both threatening and calm voice. I shook my head. But she wasn't satisfied with my answer. She only pulled my hair harder.
"Stop it. She didn't do it." An unfamiliar voice said. I looked at the owner of the voice. And what I saw is not what I accepted.
Hugh Apiston.
"And who else would? You?" Her voice mocked Hugh, but he kept a straight face. But what I saw in his eyes are rage.
Is it possible that someone cares for me?
I shook the thought off before my hopes get up too much. "I didn't. Someone else did."
"And I want you to stop your bullying to Fiona."
WHAT?!?! And he actually knows my name O///////O!!!
"Why should I?" Tiffany snapped back angrily. Hugh snickered. I guess he have one great reason for asking her to stop. "It would be a big lost if my parents found out about this. Our part in this school will be gone. The finances you have to pay will get higher, don't you think?"
I thought she's gonna believe him, but she only hardened her grip, then . Her gang joined the 'fun' and kicked and punched me.

"So it's true, huh?"
Tiffany groaned.
Is someone gonna defend me again?
"I thought it was just a rumor. I only see the good in people, but this time, I saw the opposite in you."
The once sweet Lolite, who can't even hurt a bug, is glaring at Tiffany. Because of me?
"I also vote for you to stop your bullying. Or else face the same consequence Hugh named." Lolite threatened Tiffany.
Tiffany suddenly realized what would the risks be if she continued bullying me, so she let me go. Losing two trade partners is gonna be a big downfall for her father's school.
She gave me one last glare before walking away.
"Are you alright? Do you need to go to the infirmary?" Hugh asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"I think I'm fine." I replied with a small voice. He gave me a genuine and sweet smile. I immediately turned into a tomato. And if you're wondering...
Yes. I like Hugh Apiston.
Although his popularity is what made me stay away from him. He offered me a hand. I took it, and he helped me up.
While walking, I heard someone called me. It's a feminine's voice. I looked at my right, and did not expect what I saw.
Olive Abroholos Elephanta, Enoch O'Connor, Jacob Portman, Emma Bloom, Millard Nullings, Lolite Ainsley, Bronwyn Bruntley, Victor Bruntley, Claire Densmore, and the twins.
They're all popular. They're called The Peculiar Children. All of them have specialties that made them peculiar
. That's the reason for calling them that. Hugh is one of them.
Hugh and Millard's specialty is playing soccer. Millard is also good in stealth. Lolite for her intelligence. Horace is for being neat. Victor and Bronwyn is for their strength. Olive is for being a very cheerful person. Enoch for his creativity. Emma for being carefree and laughing even if everyone is supposed to be serious at the moment. Claire for being adorable and cute. And the twins for always moving and talking in sync.
All of them are smiling at me. I saw Olive holding a DSLR Camera. She's shaking it slightly in the air.
Olive is the one who took the picture...
Then, Emma is holding a whiteboard. In it is a calligraphic handwriting letter. It says,
'You're one of us now. Your specialty is for being a beautiful blooming flower.'
I was shocked. I don't know what to say. They did all of this...for me?
Aww...you guys!
She was once a late-blooming flower,
When she finally bloomed,
Everyone can now see her beauty.
But she didn't achieved it on her own, a flower needs sunlight, water and carbon dioxide. While she needs her friends to achieve this.

"Thank you for saving me back there earlier." I thanked Hugh. We're at the park, enjoying the view in front of us.
"I already told you. It's nothing. Plus, the gang helped
out." I pouted. I knew that already. But he was the reason they all did it. And I want to do something for him.
"Can I at least do something for you?"
"Hmm....yeah." I smiled, at least I can repay him.
"This should be enough."
Before I could process what he said, Hugh kissed me.
Wait!...Hugh kissed me?!?!
I immediately became a blushing mess when he pulled away. "Why did you do that?!?!" I exclaimed. Hugh just laughed at my red face. Even if his is also slightly red.
"What? You told me that I could-" Before he could finish his sentence, I chased him like there's no tomorrow. Even if I did like what he did.
"Come back here Hugh Apiston!!!"

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
