Most of the popular students in Sky were in their junior year.
Brian Wright was the Student Body President of Sky, lead guitarist of the Sky Deviants, and a gold honor student.
Kimberly Nicole Nickerson was the Student Body Vice President of Sky, and a silver honor student.
Jen Takishima was the Student Body Treasurer of Sky, and a straight A+ student in Chemistry.
They all belonged to the class of 3-A.
Todd Zachary Samuels was the drummer of the Sky Deviants. He was also known for his athletic ability in Basketball, Football, Soccer, and Baseball; for his astounding talent in Music; and for his witty answers when asked by the teachers.
Maxine Ferguson was the vocalist of the Sky Deviants, and she was still known as the 'new-girl-next-door'.
They belonged in the class of 3-B.
Josh Mantle was the Star Player of the Basketball varsity team of Sky, and a spoiled rich kid.
Peter Ivan Sullivan was the bass guitarist of the Sky Deviants, a well-known troublemaker, and a ladies' man.
Karl Von Andrews was the rhythm guitarist of the Sky Deviants, and also known for being too innocent at times.
They all belonged to class 3-C.
They were the leading items in every discussion in Sky. With the usual, "Who's dating who?" or "Who likes who?"
Everyone, boy and girls, were wondering why Maxine and Todd didn't get along when they made a good chemistry together.
As Todd walked down the hall, girls were whispering in each other's ear and boys looked at him like they all wanted to be like him.
"Maxine is, like, so lucky to have Todd as a band-mate," sighed Miyako, as she saw Todd passed by.
"Totes!" exclaimed Justine, Miyako's best friend. "To be able to hang out with him all the time . . ."
"What are you talkin' about? They're both lucky to have each other," said Charles suddenly. "Maxine's great and Todd's cool. They're meant to be."
"How I wish . . ." breathed out Miyako, trailing off. "Josh's into her, too. I wish I was, like, in her shoes right now," she pleaded dreamily.

"Will you fit?" teased Charles.
"It's, like, a metaphor!" cried Miyako.
"Why can't I be popular?" pouted Justine.
"Do you really want me to answer that question?" asked Charles, with a raised eyebrow. He continued in a threatening voice, "Because I will. And I'm tellin' you, you won't like my answer."
Justine shook her head, looking alarmed.
Just then, Brian and Kim walked together down the hall, laughing like couples do. They looked like they were taping a happy commercial.
"Did you know that Brian used to, like, date Kim in freshmen year?" asked Miyako excitedly.
"Didn't they realize that they're better off as friends?" inquired Charles.
"Yes, but how did they, like, realize?" said Miyako impatiently.
"Okay, how?" asked Justine, giving up on guessing.
"There's a party that they both attended in freshmen year. They got, like, separated when they entered the venue. Brian forgot that he was dating Kim so he flirted with other girls. He forgot that he's dating Kim, maybe because he's, like, used to seeing Kim as a friend. That's why when Kim saw Brian flirting with another girl, Kim laughed at Brian like she's teasing her best friend – not boyfriend. Brian even smiled at Kim like they're not dating. At the end of the night, they suddenly remembered they're dating and realized that they're better off as –" Miyako stopped talking when she saw Karl talking and smiling with Jen Takishima –"FRIENDS?"
Miyako, Justine, and Charles saw Karl and Jen passed by. Knowing Karl, he didn't talk to girls that much. He barely talked to people he didn't know. He didn't even smile without his friends.
Even Jen. She didn't talk to anyone about anything besides Chemistry or any other subjects to other people. And then suddenly, she was with Karl.
They both have the same isolated personality, and yet they were walking down the corridor together.
Everyone was caught in shock.
"Whoa," breathed Charles, wide-eyed.
"Life is so unfair!" cried Justine, pursing her lips.
Charles snorted. "Who says life is fair?"

"Yup! All we could do is, like, deal with it," said Miyako.
"But – But why can't Karl be like that with other girls?" Justine demanded.
"Hey, you aren't the only one to react that way. Jen's not like that, too. She doesn't talk to boys in that way," added Charles, nodding to Karl.
"How can I be popular?" asked Justine desperately.
"You have to be, like, attractive, talented, intelligent . . ." Miyako continued talking.
"You don't have to be physically great," said Charles, talking a little louder so that he was talking over Miyako. When Miyako heard what Charles said, she quickly stopped talking and stared at Charles. He continued, "All you need to do is be friendly and be yourself."
"Wrong!" disagreed Miyako. "Wake up! We're, like, in reality here! In the real world, you have to be smart, not average. You have to be athletic or really be talented,"– Miyako turned to Justine and continued –"You have to be presentable and neat. In short, attractive. But you don't have to be attractive if you're already popular with your abilities.
"And most importantly, you need to be a people's person. Go with the flow and don't be, like, a party pooper. That's the things you can do to be popular. But it is just so hard," finished Miyako.
"Do I have to change my personality? Is that necessary?" asked Justine.
"If your attitude is unbearable, definitely! If not, then don't, like, change a thing!" answered Miyako, enthusiastically.
"Right!" exclaimed Charles, agreeing with Miyako.
Suddenly, Todd and Maxine entered the corridor. They were arguing, as usual. Miyako, Justine, and Charles watched them.
"They look like a couple," commented Miyako.
"They look like they're havin' a lover's quarrel," guessed Charles.
"Shhh! Guys! Listen. They're arguing about something," said Justine turning her ears in Todd and Maxine's direction so she could hear them argue.
☺ ♪ ☺ ♫ ☺ ♪ ☺
"It's not my fault!" said Todd angrily. "I'm just following your lead. You're the vocalist."
"I'm not the one responsible for this," countered Maxine, her voice was high-pitched with anger. "You're the drummer. I'm the one that's following your lead."
They were arguing about the band's song. Todd was getting confused of Maxine – and so was Maxine with Todd. They were staring angrily at each other, neither of them dared to blink.
Peter came, running.
"Guys!" yelled Peter, as he ran toward them.
"WHAT?!" Todd and Maxine shouted together, their eyes blazing with fire.
Peter was taken aback. He didn't want to get into this. "Um . . ." he stammered, "there's practice now. And guys! Instead of fighting, why not work together?"
Todd and Maxine looked at Peter like he was crazy for suggesting working together. They raised an eyebrow at him, making Peter step back.
"Guess not," said Peter under his breath, "Ah!" He reacted like there was a bulb on top of his head that had just been lit. "Why not imagine yourselves working with celebrities? For example, Maxine," he turned to Maxine, "you imagine Todd being Logan Lerman. And Todd," he turned to Todd, "you imagine Maxine being Anna Sophia Robb."
There was a long silence. Then Todd and Maxine both murmured, "Fine."
Miyako, Justine, and Charles heard every word.
"Peter is, like, so good at getting things work out and getting out of trouble," giggled Miyako.
"Don't even think about it! He's mine!" snarled Justine.
Miyako snorted, "Says who?"
"Me!" exclaimed Justine.
Charles shook his head. "Girls," he muttered, leaving Miyako and Justine.
Peter heard their conversation as he passed them.
When Miyako and Justine saw Peter looking at them, they arranged their hair. Peter flashed them his seductive smile and saw them giggle in joy.
Just like that, thought Peter.
