Silver's POV
"Plus I really want to help. I like you. As in...romantically. I want to get to know you more."
I stood in front of him, shocked. I couldn't think of anything to say. He liked me? We just met. And I had a son. By another man. This just seems like a cruel joke. I was lost in my thoughts before a tentative voice jerked me from my thoughts.
"Mommy?"
Turning around I see Aiddan laying on the bed yawning. Walking to his side a smile as he scrunches up his face.
"Is he my daddy?" Aiddan asked, looking at Ethan in confusion.
"Umm..." I trail off trying to explain who he was. "Ethan is mommy's bo-"
"Yes." Ethan stated smiling down at Aiddan as he walked beside me and squatted down to be eye level with him. "I am."
Say what? He did NOT just tell MY son that he was his father! Boss or not he needs to understand boundaries. I will not let him come into my son's life and give him the world. Only to turn around and leave him in the dust of his past. I will not stand for it.
Before I could speak I saw Aiddan get out from under the hospital bed covers and onto his knees.
"Aiddan you need to lay down." I say sternly glaring at Ethan as he's smiling.
As was in most cases, Aiddan didn't heed a word I said. Instead he crawled on his knees until he was face to face with Ethan at the edge of the bed.
"You're really my daddy?" he asked in an awe filled voice.
Just great!
"Yes. I am little guy." Ethan gently whispered looking at Aiddan with...love?
I didn't have time to process the look Ethan was bestowing upon my son because Aiddan had scrunched up his face. Making a small fist with his hand he pulled back and before I could stop him he punched Ethan on his cheek.

"Aiddan!" I shriek shocked.
"What was that for?" Ethan asked, sounding hurt as he looked at Aiddan with something between shock and amazement.
"For leaving my mommy. And me." Aiddan pouted before turning to me and running into me giving me a hug.
Ethan's POV
I can't believe a little kid just punched me. It didn't hurt me physically but I felt kind of rejected. I knew that if I didn't get this one little boy to love me then I had no chance with Silver. And I really wanted one. She was just so different then my other flings. I wanted something real with her. And when I told Aiddan that I was his dad I had every intention in keeping that. Even if I didn't happen to get Silver along with it. I felt content as I said those words to him. As if there was a weight literally lifted off my shoulders.
But it broke my heart to know that someone has left Silver and Aiddan behind. Not even bothering to stick around.
As Silver picked him up and cradled him in her arms I stood up and walked around her. Wrapping my arms around them both I lean down to Aiddan's ear.
"I promise I won't leave you. Ever. I will always be here for you and your mom. Both of you are so special to me. I can't even begin to explain it. You're my world and I will do anything in my power to make you guys happy. I don't want to see you cry anymore though. Can you stop for daddy?" I spoke softly making sure Silver heard because I wanted her to know I was serious.
"Yes daddy." Aiddan sniffled, wiping his eyes before grinning at me.
After a couple of hours of watching T.V. Aiddan fell asleep again and I walked over to Silver who was dozing off and on in a chair near him. Kissing her forehead I turn to leave only to be stopped by a small pressure on my wrist.

Turning around I see Silver looking up at me with wide eyes. "Yes."
"You mean?" I asked hoping it was true.
"We'll move in with you." she whispered, smiling brightly. "And I'll...give you a chance."
"Yes!" I exclaimed but hurriedly hushed my voice as Aiddan started to toss in his bed. "I'll be back tomorrow to pick you guys up."
Kissing her forehead again and whispering a fleeting goodbye I left the hospital room almost literally floating on air.

Red Street Daybreak
August Samuel Hatch was born under an inauspicious pattern of stars. It's granted him what is widely considered the most unlucky of inconveniences: becoming host to a powerful but pernicious spirit that will act as his guide and protector--and one day end his life. Sairne is sworn to stand by August's side and, when the fancy strikes her, advise him, all in the service of atoning for a past life she can’t remember having committed a grave enough offense to earn her soul indentureship in the mortal realm. Bound by a celestial contract neither one can negotiate, their fates are all they've ever known. But in a city ruled by religious right and where magic runs deep as bedrock, their search for a missing friend leads them to a dark conspiracy that could transmute the very magic that binds them to their fates, and that might grant them the ultimate choice: do they save the city or save themselves? Cross-posted on Wattpad and Ao3. For fans of fantasy YA story beats if they starred adults instead, 1920s inspired setting, lots of banter, larger cast of characters, somewhat soft magic system. Completed, but being actively edited prior to posting! I'm the only captain on this ship, so mind any errors.
