《Starting Over In Sin City》Chapter Twenty-Five

"You want the money?" I ask the tall, muscular guy holding Lana.
"Then you let her go and walk to me" I said keeping my gun on him
"I won't give you any trouble, just take it and go!"
"You're not in charge here bitch!" He yelled, as anger poured off him, and he yanked Lana by the arm hard. I could see Lana clench her jaw to keep herself from screaming out in pain and giving him the satisfaction of hearing her.
"Walk" He seethed through clenched teeth at Lana, giving her a push down the hallway towards me.
I was trying to think of a plan as fast as I could. How could I get us both in the room and keep them out? We need to call Ghost, he's the only one I trust right now.
One of the remaining two guys appeared at the end of hall, making me put a bead on him instead of the man in front of me, my target, who was still holding Lana, he turned slightly to look at the man who just burst in.
"The shots brought out the neighbors, wrap it up and don't leave anything-
I had fired my gun at the guy who burst in while his guard was down talking to the guy holding Lana, he dropped like a sack of potatoes, he never saw it coming.
My target whirled back around but Lana started to fight him. In the commotion of the gunfire, She stomped down on her captors foot with her heel and elbowed him at the same time in the gut, managing to push away from him and drop to the ground, giving me the opportunity to shoot him.
I unloaded the remaining bullets in my clip into my target and the man who I shot before him to make sure neither of them would get up.
Lana scrambled on her hands and knees over to me and we both went into the room with the reenforced door and shut it. I tried to secure it the best I could, It had been shot and kicked in but I was able to close it and drop the 2x4 wooden arm down across, it giving me a small sense of protection.
I just shot four people...I killed four people fighting for our lives and I didn't feel bad about it. I felt... powerful...and it isn't over it. There was one more that I knew of anyway, who knows what's waiting outside of the house for us?

"Call Ghost, Do not let him tell Cole because something is seriously fucked up here and Ghost is the only person I trust. Tell him you need him here immediately and you're locked in the reenforced room and to come now with 2 people he can trust with his life and yours" I tell her pacing the room.
I hear sirens in the distance and know the neighbors must have called them. Can't hide four dead bodies, what do we do?
When she just sits there staring at me I snap my fingers in front of her face "Now Lana!" I yell and try and work a plan in my head.
I hear Lana frantically explaining what happened to Ghost on the phone while I rummaged in the safe for more guns and pulled out the briefcase. I shook my head looking at it, feeling like it has caused more problems than what it was supposed to solve.
I didn't want to think Cole had anything to do with what happened tonight but I just can't be sure. I know Ghost wouldn't want Lana hurt and that was the only damn reason I trusted him right now.
"I love you Jimmy please get here fast baby, I'm so scared...Okay we will" Lana said to Ghost and hung up
She turned to me with terror written on her face "He said we have to get out of the house and He will meet us at the club"
I felt the blood drain from my face. That meant we had to get out of this room, to the living room to get my purse and then escape through the front door.
"You're going to have to be my back up Lana if we're going to get out of here" I said and gave her a glock.
Luckily Bennie and some of the guys have been working with both of us, Lana knows how to shoot. She takes the gun and checks it out and shoves it in her waist and takes another in her hand.
I have a gun in each hand and one in my back waistband still. I look at Lana and nod
"Ready?" I ask
"As I'll ever be" she said and pulled me into a tight hug "I'm sorry" she started crying
"Stop Lana, this isn't your fault Jesus, this all leads back to Ryan some how" I reassured her and pulled away, looking at her as I held onto her shoulders.

With one last look at each other I pressed my ear to the door but all I heard was sirens still off in the distance giving us time to get out of here but we have to move now. I lifted up the 2x4 from in front of the door.
"We have to go now" I said knowing we may not make it out of this house alive but we definitely won't make it if we stay here either.
Lana just nodded and released the safety on her gun.
"Straight to the living room, I'll grab my purse with the keys and you head towards the door...we watch and cover each other and then straight out the door to my car. If for some reason I don't make it...tell my parents I love them...tell Cole that...I hope he didn't have anything to do with this because I loved him so much. I'll do the same for you, but I don't plan on it going down like that, just for the simple fact that I want to see the look on Rex's face when that bastard sees me alive" I smiled wickedly at her and then a seriousness settled over me.
"Ready?"
Lana nodded and I handed her one of the guns I had, so she now had a gun in each hand and one in her back. I grabbed my briefcase with one hand and held my gun up in the other.
"Open it" I told Lana nodding to the door
She reached out and turned the handle then raised both guns up to cover me as I stepped out into the hallway cautiously.
Hearing and seeing nothing I moved quickly down the hall with Lana hot on my heels. We stepped over the bodies of the dead men and I swear my heart almost pounded out of my chest when we did. I kept waiting for them to grab my foot, I pointed my gun and them as I passed just in case.
I saw my black leather purse and turned to Lana "get to the door and shoot anything that moves, make sure you're watching the street too. The cops are going to be here any minute"
We hugged each other and stepped out of the hallway, I ran for my purse as Lana ran for the door.
"I don't see anyone out there" Lana whisper yelled to me just as I reached my purse. I grabbed it and ran over to Lana digging it in for my keys and cell phone.
"Got my keys, are you ready for this?" I asked her
"Let's do it" she raised her gun "I know I shouldn't be thinking this right now but I feel kinda bad ass, like Thelma and Louise!" She said with a huge smile
"Well let's hope it works out better for us than it did for them. Head straight for the Jeep on 3" I looked both ways out the door and it looked clear from here. I looked at Lana and made eye contact, speaking to each other with our eyes, saying we love each other.
"1...2...3" I counted, then I threw the door open and ran down the steps and to my car, clicking the button on my key fob to unlock my doors.
We both got inside the Jeep in a flash, I don't think I even looked as I ran. I threw the briefcase and my purse into the backseat, over my drivers seat and grabbed the steering wheel, pulling myself up and into the drivers seat with one hand, because I was still holding my gun in the other.
I started it up and tore out of in front of Lana's house down the street as fast as I could before the cops showed up.
I headed straight for the gentleman's club. Heads were going to fucking roll.
"Call Bennie, she's the only other person I trust, tell her what happened and tell her to get her ass to the club" I told Lana
I lit a cigarette and drew long and hard on the cotton filter, the red ember glowing just like the anger growing inside me.
"Tell her to bring her gun" I said and put my full attention on the road in front of me, but not before I caught my eyes in the rear view mirror. The eyes looking back at me this time were determined and full of strength instead of hatred and self loathing.
I'm coming for you Rex you son of a bitch...and then I'm cutting the head off the dragon. Ryan, you're next bitch.
