If y'all didn't know, I love to enter awards on Wattpad. I think they are a beautiful opportunity to grow as a writer. I mentioned this before, but I wrote The Green Guardian in my brother's honor. I have a really interesting story for you guys.
There was an award I entered on Wattpad, the Magical Grand Awards, that I put the The Green Guardian in. With awards of this magnitude, where multiple communities work together, results take a while to come out. The Fantasy ones were taking especially long, and I was already upset over Matthew's death. Then, the most incredible thing happened.
The Fantasy results of the awards came in, on Matthew's birthday, and The Green Guardian grabbed 1st place with a score of 94/100! 1st place... on Matthew's birthday. I mean... Wow. That couldn't have been a coincidence that I got the news on that particular day.
I was so, so grateful that I shared the accomplishment at his funeral. I printed out the certificate, and I keep it over his picture in my room. This win was my birthday present to him, and I was proud of myself.
