《ALPHA ROGUE: UNTOLD》2 - The Present

"The tracks were near the border of BlueLake's pack." Jack said turning to the border, behind those giant rocks lined up is the neighboring pack governed by Alpha Gael. Our packs are in good terms but we rarely communicate, I think neither of us see the need.

Speaking of which, I turned around noticing someone watching us. As expected, two wolves came out hiding behind the trees.

"That was quick." Someone walked following them. A smile drew on his face, as if amused. He is the Beta. "What is the Alpha doing at our border? Does the Alpha wish to visit?"

I furrowed my brows, aware of the anger of my companion, as intentional or not there was a tone of mockery. Between Jack and I, he is often to display anger.

But this Beta, I heard there was a new one but I haven't talked to him before. The previous Beta resigned for some reason approved by their Alpha.

"Right. It was rude of me. I believe we were not properly introduced yet. I am Rico Adams, the Beta to our Alpha Gael. It is a pleasure to meet you."

"We are tracking something. It was by chance that we meet." I answered his previous question cautious of their awareness of the rogues we're chasing.

"Hmm.. Is that so?" He said moving closer just beside the rocks, the two wolves beside him were on alert, they know of the rogues, don't they? "Are you after the prowling rogues, by chance?" I was right.

"Have you seen them?"

His eyes glazed. "Yes, they wandered around our border last night. However... it is perhaps better if you see." Did something happen?

He then led us to another part of their border.

"Our Alpha wanted to invite you for propriety however, he is currently engaged in an important matter. Thus, he asked me to brief you on this..." he paused, "incident."

"I understand. We're not planning to stay longer but do send my regards."

"Of course." His constant smile is something I'm beginning to be irritated. He has been reading our every move. It's not bad to be vigilant, though I don't think we'll be on the same page.

"Here we are." As he said that, the smell of blood that has just been starting to dry hits my nose. By the scent, I can surmise that this is not from only one creature.

"We found a few dead rogues here this early morning as we were searching for a lost pack member." I tried to get any familiar scent, as Jack are searching around. "We removed the bodies as it might attract unwanted attention but as we examined them, the fatal wounds inflicted were not from werewolves, and it would be difficult for even a skilled hunter to subdue that many rogues on his own."

"By that, you mean that there is only one source of their wounds?"

"Yes."

"Do you have any other leads?"

He shook his head. "As for the fool who did it, he or she did not probably leave unscathed. This kind of mess... If you want to further investigate, you can head towards the town in that direction. We lost the tracks from there."

"Will you not investigate?" Jack asked.

"There are other means of investigating. If you continue, let us know if you caught wind of our lost pack member. She was gathering herbs around this part and she was not part of the fatalities." He heaved a sigh. "Very well, I have some matters to attend to. You can stay around for as long as you like, but I advise otherwise." He turned his back but continued to murmur. "I thought Alphas does not do this kind of job." Then, he left with the two wolves.

"I don't like his tone." Jack commented. Neither do I.

"Let's look around that town first before heading back." He nods as we left.

That Beta was not wrong to ask why I am here. This task is indeed not for Alphas but... those rogues, after she left, they disappeared for about a few months but this past few days, we've caught sightings of them again. Lurking around, as if watching. They did not try to fight but flee the second they notice us. When the Beta said that there's an incident that involves a few dead rogues, I admit that I immediately thought of her. She killed Damon in a blink, she may even be assumed as a wolf hunter in her human form. Come to think of it, I haven't seen her wolf form. The time of knowing was too quick that I only realized things when she already left.

And when she left, every mention of a rogue gets my hopes up, that maybe it was her. And if I meet her again, maybe, this time it will be right. Maybe, just maybe... we can accept each other.
