《Gracie》Chapter 7

It was weird having to go home with my mom. After two months staying with Wyatt, my mom called and said she was coming home, so naturally, I had to be there. Of course I wouldn't have to be there long. It's not like she actually gave a damn anyway. I was sitting on the couch, watching Netflix when she finally came through the door. She smiled and popped her sunglasses to the top of her head when she saw me.

"There's my favorite girl," she smiled. I gave a tight fake smile back.

"Hey mom," I said. She placed a kiss on my head before she started for her room. When she came back, she was sporting a running suit.

"So I have some news. Thomas is taking me on a cruise to the Caribbean," she said excitedly. I was just excited that she would be leaving again so I could spend time with Grace and Wyatt.

"That's awesome, mom. When do you leave?" I asked not thrilled in the least.

"Tomorrow," she answered. "But Thomas is picking me up today. Will you be okay by yourself?" She asked. I chuckled.

"I always am," I replied. She disappeared to her room to pack and I went to my room to do the same. I was practically living at Wyatt's now because of Grace. We finally figured out a pattern for when Wyatt had to work. Grace would always wake up more often when Wyatt wasn't home. When he wasn't home, we would play music for her which seemed to help. And Wyatt would take some full shifts if I wanted to hang out with my friends and vise versa. It was an arrangement that worked. I was still waiting to hear back from the mother but I never did.

When I finished packing, I went downstairs with my bag. To my surprise, my mom was in the living room with Thomas. I gave a quick smile.

"Hi Thomas," I greeted. Thomas wasn't the best guy. My mom was actually his mistress. As in, he was already married to someone else. My mom didn't care though, he was rich so he was just her type. And my mom was surgically enhanced and did whatever Thomas wanted so she was just his type.

"Hey kiddo," he greeted. My mom noticed my bag.

"Where are you going?" She asked.

"Stay at a friend's place while you're on your cruise. Is that okay?" I asked for her benefit. She smiled happily.

"Yes! That's perfect. Have fun, honey," she said. I walked out and over to Wyatt's. I noticed Davis' car in the driveway. I smiled and used my key to unlock the door. I met Davis about two weeks after we got Grace. He was pretty awesome. He was Wyatt's only friend who was aware of Grace as far as I knew. I walked in and saw the two boys on the couch with Grace in her rocker. Wyatt had a beer as they were talking with each other. They both smiled when they saw me.

"Sky-bug," Davis greeted. He'd gotten in the habit of calling me that. I giggled and rolled my eyes.

"I'm going to put this upstairs. I'll be back," I said darting up the stairs. I quickly dropped the bag in the bedroom and ran back downstairs. Davis attacked me in a hug and tickled me. I laughed and tried to swat his hands away.

"Nice to see you again, too," I giggled. Wyatt sat me down in between them and gave me a goofy grin.

"Hi Sky," he said. It was safe to say that Wyatt was a little tipsy. I raised an eyebrow at him.

"It's a good thing I got here when I did," I said slightly shocked that Wyatt would drink when he was supposed to be watching Grace.

"No, it's okay. Wyatt said he wouldn't but I told him I would take care of Grace if he wanted to drink," Davis said. He looked completely sober. I sighed and turned back to Wyatt. I touched his face gently and examined his eyes. They were dilated. He wasn't just tipsy, he was completely drunk. I sighed my disappointment and ran my thumb over his cheek gently.

"Wyatt," I breathed, not having anything else to say. He held my hand against his face and leaned into it slightly as his bottom lip poked out slightly.

"Please don't be mad at me," he slurred.

"You need to go sleep it off," I said. He shook his head and kissed my hand before he started kissing up my arm.

"I want to stay here with you," he said softly. I pulled my hand away gently and turned to Davis. I liked Davis; he seemed like a good friend, but I was mad that he let Wyatt get to this point. It most likely showed on my face. Davis' hands went up defensively.

"I know what you're thinking, but hear me out," he said quickly. Wyatt rested his head against my back and started playing with my hair.

"I have to take care of a baby and a drunk now," I seethed.

"The man has been drinking since he was 19, he knows when enough is enough. We're both of age, so it's not like we're doing anything illegal. And he's been under a lot of pressure lately to be here for you and Gracie. He hasn't slept with anyone, drank, smoked, or anything since you brought Grace into his house. Once is all he's done since you showed up in his life and that's right now. He's just a man, Sky. Give him some credit, he took in Grace, no questions asked and treats her like his own daughter," He explained.

"You're hair smells like strawberries," Wyatt said as he continued to play with my hair. I sighed and closed my eyes briefly.

"I'm going to put him to bed. Will you please watch Grace? We'll talk when I get back," I said, standing.
