"I'm sorry. You're staying where?" Kie asks incredulously.

I sit at a table with the Pogues while Kie works, talking to them.

"Tannyhill."

"So you're living with Sarah Cameron." Kie walks away after filling a water cup.

"Okay, look, the only reason I'm living there is because her dad bailed me out, right? And it's way better than foster care, which by the way is where I was about to go if Ward didn't-" John B walks over to the table where the rest of us were sitting.

"Kat lives with Pope." Kie cuts him off.

"Pope's parents don't like me." John B points out.

"True." Pope admits. "Hey, so do you have a membership to the clubs now?"

"What about one of the those golf carts they drive around? You get one of them?" JJ questions.

"Does it come with a sweater-vest, or do you have to buy one of your own?" Pope teases.

"Is this why you've become such an ass? Because you're integrating into Kook life." I state.

"Look, you promised. You said you weren't with her." Kie states.

"Bro, just own it. She got you." JJ says.

"Look, if you wanna hangout with her, that's fine. But I'm letting you know now that I'm not doing anything with Sarah." Kie announces.

"Oh, I'm still not happy we're even somewhat associated with her." I agree.

"Do you guys see her here?" John B asks annoyed. "No, right. Okay. A little focus would be fantastic."

"Here's the thing, big brother. We see her here." I tap his temple. He swats my hand away.

"You've got the map, right?" John B asks JJ.

JJ hands it to him. "It's out of whack 'cause the gut was ganja'd when he drew it."

"It's because the coast has changed." Kie informs him.

"So we just have to look for the landmarks that haven't changed." Pope says.

"What about the old forts?" JB asks.

"Battery Jasper." Kie says pointing at the map.

"Okay, well let's go." I say. I grab the keys to my Jeep off the table and head out.

JJ follows right behind. "You heard the lady."

JJ and I ride in my car while everyone else gets into the van.

"Looked like you and John B were gonna bite each other's heads off in there." JJ says looking over to me.

"I know." I say focusing on following my brother's car.

"You guys can't fight like this forever." JJ points out.

"I know, J. But everything he is doing to get this gold is ridiculous. He's destroying his relationships with people. I mean look at Kie."

"Yeah, that's messy too."

"Yeah it's whatever." I say.

"Babe..."

"I know, JJ. We'll figure it out eventually."

We drive in silence the rest of the way there. I stop the car next to John B's and get out. We all huddle around the ruins of a wall with the map in the middle.

"We're in battery, right here." Pope says point to our location. "So if this is parcel nine, then it's somewhere northeast of here."

Kie points onto the large empty space in front of us. "Somewhere over there."

"Right."

"Over there?" JJ asks. "Guys, that's not Tannyhill, that's a subdivision."

"Tannyhill Plantation was the entire Island. It got sold into smaller pieces over time." John B says.

"So we're just looking for an old stone wall." Pope says.

"So, back on the road?" I ask.

"Yeah." Pope says.

I sigh, following everyone back to the cars. I follow John B in the car again.

"Where on earth are we going?" I ask.

"I'm not sure.." JJ trails. "Oh! There! That's the wall."

I pull up next to the van and meet everyone outside.

"The Crain House?" I ask.

The tall house stand in front of us. It was one of the most terrifying places I have ever seen.

"Are you kidding me?" I hear Kie say.

"Worst-case scenario." JJ comments next to me.

"Why'd it have time be here?" Pope asks. "Of all places?"

"I heard that Mrs. Crain buried her husband's head on the property." JJ says.

"Oh, god." I say nervously.

"Well, let's look around." John B says starting to walk down the property.

I walk close to JJ as we follow my brother through the area.

"Look, you guys know whose house this is, right?" Kie asks while we walk through the garden.

"Oh, yeah. No, I do." JJ reassures.

"Honestly, I don't really believe the stories of this place." John B says nonchalant. Pope shushes him.

"Which stories did you hear?" JJ asks Kie.

"The one where she killed her husband with an axe and that she's been holed up ever since."

"That's the one I heard." I speak up. "On certain nights, when the moon is full, you can see her in the windows."

"Guys, it's not funny. I swear to God, guys, this is all real. I knew Hollis. Jeez!" He squares up to a statue. I grab his arm, getting him to relax a little.

"Wait, you knew Hollis Crain?" Pope asks.

"Yeah, dude."

"Dude, how do you know Hollis Crain?"

"She was my babysitter, man. She told me all about it. Told me the truth... about her mother and what happened in this house. So, as a kid, she heard all the stories that her mother killed her father, and she was a murderer and all. Hollis didn't believe it. Until that night."

"What night?" I ask curiously.

"It all came back to her. When Hollis was six years old, she heard her parents arguing downstairs. So she goes downstairs to see her mom washing her hands in a sink, full of blood. Her mother just says that she cut her finger. The next morning, she says her father and her split up. But then, Hollis noticed something. Her mother going into the parlor constantly, in and out and in and out with plastic bags. Weeks pass, and Hollis decides to use the outhouse. And as she's using it, she looks down, and there, in the outhouse, is her father's head looking straight back at her."

"God, you are so full of shit." John B says.

"Dude, I swear to God, man."

"Did she call the police?" Pope asks.

"She didn't have time."

John B starts to walk away, JJ rushes to stop him.

"What?"

"You sure you wanna do this? She's an axe murderer. You got a cast on."

"I don't give a shit if she's an axe murderer, okay? I got nothing to lose."

"Excuse me?" I speak up.

"Whatever, Kat." John B ignores me. "You guys coming or what?"

"Come on." Kie chirps.

I grab JJ's hand. He didn't follow everyone right away.

"Hey, we'll be okay."

"I hope you're right."
