《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter Thirty - Eight

🤣🤦🏽♀️
When the morning rolled around, I had gotten up early to make breakfast. When I had entered the living room, Lee was asleep on the couch, one of my small blankets draped across him. His arm was dangling off the edge and his face was turned inwards on a pillow as he breathed softly.
I stood at the kitchen's entrance for a moment as I watched him, before heading into the kitchen to get breakfast started. After thirty minutes, I was pretty much done, and had set everything out. I sat down the last piece of silverware and headed back into the living room to wake up Lee.
He was now sitting up on the couch, running a hand through his hair tiredly as he frowned down at his phone. I felt that familiar pang of regret hit me as I remembered that he wasn't supposed to be here right now, he was supposed to be on his way to catch a plane, not here taking care of me.
I fought the urge to turn back around, and instead stepped forward until I was standing behind the couch. I wrapped my arms around his neck as I hugged him, waiting for him to notice me. His shoulders tensed slightly before relaxing. He turned off his phone and sat it down on his lap, turning his attention up to me.
He had dark circles around his eyes, and a tiredness on his face that had me thinking that maybe he didn't really get any sleep last night, but had only tossed and turned - I knew that look, because I had done the exact same thing - only it was easier for me to hide because I had makeup.
"Good morning," I said softly, waiting for him to respond.
His eyes didn't leave mine as he stared back at me. "Good morning." He said back, though he didn't smile like he usually did. I had a feeling that he was still a little upset about last night because he didn't believe that I had been telling him the truth. He knew that something was wrong, but I was too afraid to tell him.

"Lee, I'm fine, I promise." I told him, dropping my head on his shoulder, "So can you just let whatever worries you have going on in your head go?"
"It would be easier to do that if you were telling the truth," he replied, "but I know that you aren't. I don't know what really happened last night, but I at least expected you to be somewhat honest."
I lifted my head in frustration. "What do you want from me?" I said tiredly.
He shrugged. "The truth."
"You can't have that." I said immediately.
Lee's eyes bore into mine, an internal war waging behind them. He stood up, giving himself some distance from me. "Then I won't pretend that I'm not disappointed." He picked up his phone and headed into the kitchen to eat.
We didn't talk through the entire meal - not that I was brave enough to say anything anyways.
After we had both finished, Lee had gone and taken a shower. I had followed after he was done and changed clothes. When twelve o'clock had came around, Lee had all of his things gathered up, and he was waiting by the door when I walked into the living room.
"You're leaving?" I asked, although on the inside I had to admit I was a little afraid. Lee glanced up at me through thick black lashes as he shoved his phone into his pocket.
"Since Thomas has already left for tour, his wife Natalie asked me to help them out at the bakery today." He told me plainly, "I'll be gone until five. I'll bring something back for us to eat later."
My heart squeezed. "You're coming back tonight?"
Lee shook his head slightly as he walked over to me. "Just because I'm a little mad, doesn't mean I'm going to avoid you, Simone." He said, leaning down to give me a quick kiss on my lips. I stared back at him, and he gave me another sad smile. "I'll be back later." He promised, walking out the front door, and leaving me alone to figure out what I was going to do today since I didn't go back to work for another three days.

I glanced down at my phone that was sitting down on the tv stand and sighed. I think it was time that I called my big brother.
