《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter Thirty - Four

Thirty minutes later, Lee was standing in the entrance of my apartment door, a bag of chocolate chip cookies in one hand and a container with lemon cake in the other.
I frowned. "You actually made dessert?" I asked, standing back so that he could enter.
Lee shot me a look as if I was crazy. "What? Did you think I was lying?" He asked seriously, although I could see the slight glimmer of light dancing behind his dark eyes.
I helped him set everything down on the table as I grabbed two plates and handed him one. I shrugged. "I honestly thought this was all just a ploy to get me to invite you over so that we could spend time together."
Lee cut two slices of cake and laid them out on the plates before us, placing a single cookie by each one. He handed me my plate, smiling. "Did it work?"
I took the plate. "Well, you're here now." I pointed out.
He smiled. "Then looks like my plan worked." He replied, following me over in the direction of the living room as we both sat down on the couch. I turned on the television and clicked on a random movie and began eating some of my cake.
"This is actually pretty good." I told him, "Where did you learn to bake? I know you're on tour a lot and I just don't know where you get the time to do it."
Lee took a bite of his cookie as he glanced over at me. "My mom used to teach me how to make a few basic things growing up, and it just kind of stuck. Whenever I had free time I would try to bake new things. Last year when Thomas met Natalie, I ended up helping her out at her bakery when she needed some more workers. We weren't on tour at the time, so the work was a nice little get away, plus it let me do what I loved."
I listened, new information that I hadn't known coming to light. "Natalie owns a bakery?"
"Yep. She tries to be there as much as she can when Thomas isn't on tour, but when he is she has two college workers that do a pretty good job at running it. But she never stays away for too long." He told me before abruptly changing the subject. "Simone," he said, glancing back over at me. "What is one thing you have always wanted to do?"

"Sky diving." I said immediately before looking over at him. "What? I can be spontaneous." Lee laughed.
"It wasn't like that - I just didn't expect that answer," he shook his head grinning, "That actually sounds pretty fun." He admitted before taking another bite of his food.
I dropped my cookie back down onto the plate. "What about you? What is one thing you have always wanted to do?"
Lee thought for a moment before turning back to me. "It used to be winning a grammy," he chuckled, "but now, now it's different. I hope you don't get mad if I choose not to tell you. It's a little embarrassing." He replied, a slight hint of red filling his pale cheeks.
I stared on in shock. "Are you blushing?"
Lee dropped his head. "Is it that noticeable?" He replied, pointing a finger in my direction. "I told you that it was embarrassing, did I not?" He said, "But one day when I gather up enough courage i'll let you know what it is." He promised. I smiled at him.
"Lee, you can tell me now. It's not like i'm going to laugh at you," I stated before grinning sheepishly, "That is if it isn't funny. If it is..I might laugh, but it won't be on purpose." I tried to reassure him.
"Yeah, definitely not telling you now."
I rolled my eyes playfully. "Fine, I'm sure it's not even that bad." I said, nudging his shoulder.
Lee smiled. "I guess it depends." He shrugged before taking the conversation in another direction. We finished watching the movie that I had picked out and so watched one more before ten o'clock rolled around and I started yawning.
Lee stretched out his legs. "Guess I should get going. Didn't know it was getting so late." He said, standing up from the couch. I followed his movements and walked with him to my front door, watching him for a moment as I leaned against the wall.
"You could always stay. I have an extra comforter set that you can use. Of course you'll have to sleep on the couch, but-"

He cut me off. "Simone, it's fine." He smiled, "I'll see you tomorrow night at the Christmas party."
I felt a little disappointed, but knew that it wasn't that big of the deal because I would be seeing him tomorrow. "Oh, okay. I guess this is goodnight." I said, trying to hide my emotions. I really wished that he had wanted to stay. It was nice having him around, I had to admit.
Lee must've noticed the tone of my voice because he reached out his hand, letting it lay against my face. "It's not that I don't want to stay. It's just that I can't stay. I have to finish packing some more of my things before tomorrow. It sucks, but I promise i'll make it up to you."
I sighed. "I believe you."
"Good." He replied, removing his hand. "I'll see you tomorrow, alright? Sleep well, Simone." He said gently, squeezing one of my hands in his.
"Goodnight." I waved to him as his back retreated out the door and towards his car. When he had made it into his car, I shut my door and turned back to the living room, shutting off the tv and turning off the lights that we had had on from earlier.
I yawned as I finally made it to my bed and crawled beneath my sheets. When I looked over at my phone, I saw the lit up screen and reached over to open it.
The text read.
I waited for him to send me another message explaining himself when my phone suddenly started to ring.
I picked it up, and listened as his smooth voice filled my ears.
"Lee?" I questioned.
He breathed. "You asked me what was one thing that I have always dreamed of doing, and I told you that it had changed. I used to only think about going further in my career and maybe winning a grammy that that would just be the most amazing thing ever, but I also said that had changed." He said before pausing, "Now, the one thing that I dream of doing is walking with you arm in arm, announcing to the world that you're mine and that i'm yours." He said slowly, my heart beating loudly within my chest, "and I honestly can't think of anything better than that."
"Lee?" I said quietly after a few minutes of sitting in silence, going over his words.
"Yes?" He replied softly.
"Are you home yet?" I asked, already knowing that he was probably almost there.
"No." He stated.
"No?" I asked unsurely. "I thought that you were almost home. You-"
"I didn't leave. I um..I'm outside."
Without thinking twice I dropped my phone back onto my nightstand and climbed out of bed, practically racing for my front door. I swung it open without hesitation to see Lee standing there with his phone still to his ear, staring down at me.
"You know what you're doing is pretty stalkerish." I said seriously, folding my arms across my chest.
Lee rubbed the back of his neck. "I wasn't trying to come off as such. I know I said I was leaving. I just - I just had to tell you. I'm leaving now though, so don't think -"
Before he could finish I took a step closer to him, throwing my arms around his neck and leaning forward to kiss him right on the lips. Lee didn't stay in shock for too long before he responded back, the kiss I had been waiting on finally happening.
As he pulled away, he stared down at me, his eyes searching mine. "Simone." He said.
"What?" I asked, my arms still wrapped around his neck.
"I really like you."
I giggled. "Lee."
"Yes?"
"Come back inside, it's cold out here."
