《Mwizi Tales》Ogun the Bazooka

Ogun
Ogun remembered the days when he was young, chasing the thrill of a good fight and a challenge. He sat in the boxer lounge surrounded by pretty women and other nobles in high spirits and giddy. He sat around a bunch of drunk fools, none of them understood Ogun and all they cared about were two things. Money and fame, as he sat between all the activities he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up to notice his brother with a large smile on his face and his usual squinted eyes. “Brother, why are you not celebrating with the rest of us? You have a big match tomorrow to defend your title.” Ogun rolled his eyes and hit his brother's hand away, “Jabari, why would I get drunk and overindulge before my match?”
Jabari laughs and motions around, “the people are here for you, and you act as if you can even lose. Your opponent is some no-name street rat, you got this in the bag.” He said twirling a vial in his hand, a red liquid substance can be seen in the vial. Ogun hated spike, he hated how popular it had become not just in the kinetic boxing scene but even with nobility and other Baragoians. He wished he could just fight man to man, he missed the days of fighting fair and challenging himself. He clenched his fist and sighed, joining his brother and the others for drinks, as he remembered the easier days. After the others got drunk and the partying ended, Jabari and Ogun were the only ones left. His brother was seated with his hands together, his rings showing, and Ogun was able to take a good look at the man he called his brother.
***
Ogun was in the ring with a much bigger opponent and a man who wears the championship belt. A man known only as Thrasher, the reigning champion for almost a decade, he came in quickly with a hook, Ogun dodged and went for a counter. His fist harmlessly bounced off the man as Ogun could see his opponent's psychic armor was now visible. As he saw the man had black spiked armor with deep red undertones, he smiled and motioned for Ogun to strike. Ogun, feeling offended by the display, winded up and delivered an explosive uppercut, feeling the spikes pierce his hands.

He screamed and winded back and punched him again, Ogun let off a flurry of jabs but he wasn't able to budge Thrasher's armor, the bell rang and the match was over. Ogun painted and watched blood spill all over the ring from his hands and knuckles. “And the winner is Thrasher!!!” The crowd yelled in applause as Ogun slumped knowing this was his second loss, he saw his brother in the crowd, he had a short buzzed cut and a wide smile as he seemed to be giddy for some reason. “Fuck are you so happy about, I lost again.” Jabari laughed and shook his head. “I've got something big, something that will change the game.” He showed Ogun a vial with a red substance inside. “It's going to be a game changer, you wish to win at all costs right?”
And from there it's all been a downward spiral, the production of Spike became bigger and bigger and became a much-needed resource not just for boxers but even the Shujaa forces. Kinetic Boxing became bigger and all with the help of Jabari. The highly addictive nature of Spike made it hard to resist not using it again, and those that stopped ran the risk of losing their Kineticism. Ogun won the fight against Thrasher and became the next champion but he claimed a belt he felt he didn't earn.

Flashback: Siren Song
The year is 1969. Yancy Lazarus—bluesman, gambler, future world-class mage and fix-it man—is just a dumb, unlucky kid serving with the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam. With just a few weeks left to go until Yancy gets shipped back to the States, he’s just trying to keep his head down and avoid a body bag—no mean feat in Nam. But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away. When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.See how it all began … *** PRAISE FOR SIREN SONG:Hunter's writing is as low-down, gritty, and insidious as the blues Yancy Lazarus loves. Just like the mysterious music drifting through the jungle toward Yancy's squad, Siren Song will get under your skin and sink its hooks into your mind. —eden Hudson, Author of Halo Bound (the Redneck Apocalypse series) *** Hey everyone, this is James Hunter.
