《The New World Rising : How to Build a Dungeon Kingdom》Chapter 27 - The Chief is Dead

They will pay back.

“Soldiers, charge forward!”

They will pay back with their blood.

If the squad of soldiers we just faced that were riding boars were the strongest squad of this goblin village, then this will not be so difficult. And I have reason to assume that is the case: what makes us strong now is not the military training the goblins and imps received so far, but the wolves we are riding. If the same goes for them, which I have a reason to believe does since their goblins are much more amateur than ours and the only real losses we gave was during the fight with the boar riding quad, we have a big chance to win against this village.

As we ride on the streets slashing through the enemies on their feet, the wolves keep running while ripping their throats off. Thanks to their agility and intelligence, wolves manage to evade most arrows sent our way by the clumsy hands of poorly trained archers.

We bring many down, but I am not left with many soldiers either. If only I knew this would happen I would have brought more. Either way, I have to win here and now, with the soldiers I have. I cannot let my first fight end in a loss.

Since many of the villagers are civilians and prefer to hide in their homes instead of coming out on the street in an eventually unfruitful effort of resistance, I am lucky enough to have more survivors and avoid committing genocide.

Suddenly, the goblin I saved in the tent came next to me on his wolf.

“My Lord, some armored goblins appeared.”

“Armored?”

“I believe they are the goblin chief’s guards.”

“Oh, so it was not the chief who tricked us?”

“I believe so.”

“Do you know where the chief is?”

“He is with them.”

“And how many guards are there?”

“Four.”

“Leave me four men, you take the others to gather every single villager in the open area where we left the wolves when we came here. If anyone resists, you know what to do. Do not touch the slaves though.”

“Yes, my Lord.”

The goblin I commanded left, gathering everyone but 4 soldiers. Now, I have two hobgoblins, one goblin, and one imp with me. We are not armored like the guards and the chief we are facing, but we are still riding our wolves.

“Coward human still on his wolf! Is your human body too weak to fight against us?”

My wolf started snarling at the goblin chief trying to provoke me. I saw my soldiers tighten their grasps of their weapons. Thank you guys - for getting angry for me.

Yer, unfortunately for you, goblin chief, I am not provoked. I will finish this as fast as possible, without dismounting my wolf.

Pride has no right to open its mouth on the battlefield - it is the dialogue of life and death.

“Charge!”

We started charging against the guards and the chief, standing strong with their sturdy armor at the end of the street.

Swinging my axe as I closed up to the chief, I concentrated my mana at the edge of my weapon. A smooth slash separated his head from his body, sending it tumbling down the street with a splash of blood.

When I looked back, guards were laying dead on the ground alongside their chief’s decapitated body.

Very anticlimactic.

I picked the head up and started riding my wolf towards the area where villagers must have gathered by now.
