《Dungeon of books》Angry Elf - Chapter 13

POV - Sylmare
“What bullshit is this,” I yell at the top of my lungs throwing the note I got from the guild against a wall.
“My lady, why are you angry,” asks a maid by my side, in a concerned tone.
“My father thinks he can trick me by getting the guild involved,” I say letting irritation ting my voice. “Does he think me an idiot? Does he believe that this simple guild invitation to rule a piece of land that might hold a dungeon will cause me to go off and rule it?”
“My lady please calm down. The guild did say that the land does hold value to two kingdoms and that it could start a war.” The maid says consoling me while grabbing the letter from the wall.
“Yes, I do know that but I hate politics. Not only do I hate it, but I also hate being in schemes most of all and that is all this is. I can tell by just looking at it the guild is trying to gain influence over the land but are unable to thanks to the two kingdoms.” I take a deep breath then continue, “And my father knowing this ask the guild to nominate me, to take the position of being in charge so I get the experience to rule the duchy owned by my father.”
“Lady you do know that you will be unable to escape, and will have to rule the duchy even if you don’t like it.” The maid says confusion in her voice.
“I do know this but I wanted to live without having to be in politics for some part of my life, that is why I joined the guild till now.” I let out a huge sigh knowing that I will have to go on the mission the guild gave me. “I can’t even refuse the guild invitation or it might be used against me when I take over the duchy.”
“So my lady, do you wish of me to prepare your clothes and get your carriage ready.” The maid asks in a diligent tone as if it has been practiced a thousand times.

“Yes I would like you to prepare things for me,” I replied to the maid as I take the note from her to reread.
Dear. Sylmare Carthyra
We wish for you to act as an intermediary between the kingdoms of Ambrosius and Ortus. We know that this will be difficult for you but don’t be scared you have the vested interest of the Adventurers Guild on your side. We here at the Adventurer Guild will help you start to build a town on the land. The land is home to a place of treasure which might be a dungeon or something else more profound, that is why we wish for you to act as an intermediary.
Thank you, Adventurers Guild
Rereading the note only makes me irritated at this whole thing all over again. It is so obvious that the ploy they are using, will not go the way they wanted. I look up from the note to see that the maid has already left and has left my clothes at the end of my bed.
After getting ready, with all my Adventurer’s clothes on, I hear the maid coming back to tell me that the carriage is ready to take me to the teleporter so I can get teleported to the kingdom of Ortus. I chose that kingdom because it is a multi-raced kingdom that is barely racist with some of its Nobility even being of other races than human, Ambrosius Kingdom, on the other hand, is primarily human with a dislike for other races.
“My lady the carriage is ready,” The maid says knocking on the door.
I walk over to the door and open it coming face to face with the maid and tell her, “Alright let's get a move on.”
I walk down the hallways of my mansion towards my carriage. Even if I call it a carriage it is more like a flying board with all the enchantments put on the damn thing. It was a gift from my father trying to make me come back to the lessons on how to rule a duchy. The carriage was big, made of mithril and other metals that I don’t care about. I would not even use the carriage if it didn’t make traveling around the city easier.

When we arrived at the teleporter I was still fuming, and all my maids could tell and left me alone. I stepped out of the carriage and walk through the people skipping the line with several people shouting at me that I must go to the back of the line. Before I could yell at the people manning the teleporter, I realized that I was too angry and being a huge asshole as my instructor would put it.
I coughed into my hand suddenly embarrassed about my actions, “Sorry about that I was very angry. Though I do need a trip to Ortus.”
“Ah, yes don’t worry about it you’d be surprised at how many people come charging up to us and yell at us that they need to get somewhere.” the attendant says with a laugh in her voice. “I would ask you to go to the back of the line, but if you have official business with the kingdom we would allow you to go through with priority.”
“I do have business with the kingdom of Ortus,” I say handing over the letter with the seal of the guild on it as proof.
Opening it with a quick look to glance at the words inside the note, she hands it back to me and says, “It does look like everything is in order please step into the formation so we may send you to Ortus capital, Unless you have any city imparticular you’d like to go to.”
After she says this I realised I have never gone to the guild to ask what city is closest to the land that I have to take over preoccupied, with my anger at my father and the guild. With a face chiseled in stone I say, “Yes, the capital would be fine.”
My sheer stubbornness took over with me being unwill to admit my mistake. I walk into the center of the array getting ready to get teleported to Ortus’s capital that I don’t even know the name of.
Suddenly with a tearing sound, I was sent flying through a kaleidoscope of constantly changing color and directions. Just staring at all these colors is making me want to throw up and close my eyes but I persist, mostly because I know if I close my eyes it will feel much worse than just wanting to throw up. But faster than I knew it I was at the other array, stumbling around ready to throw up but holding it in to keep my public appearance.
I am finally able to lift my head and what catches my sight is the new kingdom and how many different races are just wandering around. There are Demi-humans, elves, humans, Dwarfs, Gnomes, and even some demons walking around trading their good and other mundane activities.
“Excuse me lady, but is there any information you want to know about the city before you explore.” A young human asks, as a guide to the city.
“Yes, there is some information I would like to know. The biggest of all these questions is where can I find the adventurers guild.” I ask the young child, with a gentle smile on my face.
“The adventurers guild, it that way, you can't miss it.” the child says pointing north through a group of people.
“Thank you,” I say smiling at the fact that it is not far away, tossing the child a silver plate. I begin my track to the adventurers guild, I can hear the young child thanking me for tipping him with this large sum of money, all I do is smile while still walking away from the child.

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
