《Angel and Wolf: Open War》Chapter 10: Consequence

A short while later
Michael parked outside the office. Lani had put on her vest and duty belt, almost looking like a bail bondsman about to drag someone back to jail. Michael had also grabbed his duty belt and got it put on with Lani’s help while driving. They stepped out of the suburban and walked to the main entrance. Tom was waiting with a singular escort.
Tom held his hand up, “now now, let’s be calm about this,” he tried to say in hopes of keeping tensions down.
Michael shrugged, “he’s croaked isn’t he?”
Tom shook his head. “He woke up as he was being loaded into evac,” he said calmly, “he said you were coming to kill him.”
“Kinda deserves it,” Lani piped up, “but if we build a case we can destroy him worse than if I choke him with butane.”
Tom's eyes went wide, “Why do I believe that you’ve done exactly that?”
Michael chuckled, knowing that there was a small amount of truth to what Lani said.
Lani shrugged. “I mean, it wasn’t butane but sure.” she turned to Michael and in her chibbiest loli grin possible, she leaned to him. “Someone tried to bug the old house, and I may have burned him from the inside with gas stuff.”
Michael wrapped an arm around her shoulders with a big smile and leaned his head to her ear. “Trying to send a message?” he asked her as he tried to contain his chuckling. All Lani could really do was look at him with a straightened face of darkness. Though most men would fear such coldness and brutality, Michael smiled. “That sounds like my little sister doing work.”
Lani smiled wide as she felt Michaels approval.

Tom stood there with his arms crossed, waiting for someone to remember that he was still standing there. “Wanna look in his office then?” he piped up trying to get the focus back on the issue at hand. “I’m sure we can administratively log into his computer,” he said in something just above a mumble.
Michael looked up at Tom, his eyes narrowed. “He might not have left anything on his computer to be found.”
Lani started walking towards Bernards office, “Worst case scenario I can hang him with his cable!” She continued to walk to his office where she was met by two guards standing in front of it.
Tom had chased behind her, waving the guards out of her way. One of them stepped back immediately, the other grabbed a key out of his pocket and unlocked the door before stepping out of her way. “Here you go ma’am,” the guard said softly, “We’ll make sure you don’t get disturbed.”
Lani walked in and sat at the computer, she went first to the drawers where she found some of them locked. This didn’t matter as she simply ripped them open. Shuffling through papers, she found nothing unusual. She moved to the computer and turned it on. After a few minutes, she found that it didn’t require a password to get in. You’re a government worker and don’t protect your shit? Lani started sifting through emails and files. She found an alternate email under some encryption, but the encryption was so weak that she didn’t have to spend much time digging through it. Eventually she found a correspondence with someone calling themselves Shinigami. Japanese, God of Death? The messages between them were weird. They were talking mostly about where Michael and Lani had been going, and when to avoid going to those places. There were more recent messages about delivering weapons, including the phosphorus ordinance. 81mm Mortar tube, and a truck to move it around in. There was even an instruction manual tossed in to make sure they could use it right. The last message stated that Michael and Lani were headed down a certain highway, and that they could be ‘dealt with’ there.

Too convenient, Lani thought to herself. She printed out all the emails before ripping the power cable from the computer and taking it with her. She took the stack of documents and fed them into a copying machine. She had three copies of the entire stack made. One stack, she left on Bernard's desk. One stack, she handed to Tom. The original print she handed to Michael, and the last copy she kept as she walked to the suburban.
Michael got the hospital location before jumping in and driving.
“Michael,” Lani said softly, “these motherfuckers are gonna murder people.”
“I see that.” Michael said flatly.
“They’re gonna burn people, blow them up,” Lani continued to go on.
“Lani,” Michael interrupted, “I get it just as much as you.” He grabbed her hand and held it firmly. “We’re gonna make this right.”
Lani clenched his hand tight. “They weren’t extorting him,” she said through her teeth. “He jumped at the opportunity to throw us to these people!”
“I get that,” Michael said firmly, “And it’s no different than when he had Sarah killed for convenience.” He kept his focus on the road while still holding Lani’s hand. “He’s been scum from the time I’ve known him all the way till now.”
“Convenience?” Lani had sorta heard him say this previously, but she hadn’t put much thought into the backstory of it. “What convenience did he get?”
Michael rolled his eyes, having tried not to put much thought into things that bothered him. “She owned a building,” he said through a grumble. “I didn’t care enough to ask what he gained from her death.”
“You don’t usually miss a chance to question people,” Lani said softly.
“I wasn’t allowed to kill him then,” Michael said back, “if I had continued the conversation he’d have probably killed himself with his answers.”
For a moment, there was silence as they rolled down the road toward the hospital. Lani sat staring out the windows for a few minutes before finally uttering some words. “We’re the consequence for shit like this.”
Michael nodded, with a soft smile.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

Wizards of the Otherworldly Court: End of the Five, Twenty-three, and Twenty-nine Years Story
Alternate titles: - Five, Twenty-Three, Twenty-Nine Years - 5, 23, 29 "Dad? I think I got a really bad fever, why do I still feel fine?" "It feels cold..." Five years ago, Owen became a Court Wizard in search of his father who was lost to the unknown three years prior. But that wasn't the beginning of the story. Maybe it began twenty-three years ago when Ronald Bell and Joshua Ruze saved the Illyer family. Or perhaps, it all started twenty-nine years ago, when Ronald, the son of the wealthiest merchant, became a Court Wizard. Well, it doesn't matter anymore, for the story five, twenty-three, and twenty-nine years ago shall now meet its end. 2nd book written in the Wizards of the Otherworldly series. Read Wizards of the Otherworldly Court: Alicia first. This story is split into two 'Collections,' Ronald's Collection and Owen's Collection, each centering around those Court Wizards. Crossposted with WordPress site, Wattpad, Sufficient Velocity, and Rainobu. Wizards of the Otherworldly Court is a fantasy story about the Otherworldly Court, an inter-dimensional (or world-hopping, you get the idea) organization made up of people of all ages, gender, and race from many parallel or different worlds. They are granted elemental-like magic powers and called themselves 'Court Wizards'. They are tasked to watch over the many worlds they come across and step into these worlds on 'missions' to preserve the balance, life, order, anything to make said worlds better places in the shadows but may reveal themselves if necessary. However, these missions may partially or even fully oppose their nature, personal interests, and ideals. Yet, most of the Court Wizards are aware and willing to complete even the worst missions that would shatter their true selves that they will never cast aside regardless, either growing or regressing because of it. Basically, it's isekai to multiple worlds but each book after Wizards of the Otherworldly Court: Alicia focuses primarily on one world while also discussing its lore in detail. Book Alicia is the introduction containing the essential worldbuilding of the Otherworldly Court universe you need to know while shoving in as many characters and worlds as I can. Also, each book will have a different main character, sometimes more than one in a single book, like Jojo.
