《Sacrificed in Thirty Seconds》Chapter 11 Gates

"No, my valuable books!" Krogar sighed as he somersaulted sideways, while turning to look at the place he had been standing on. Before, this move would have been just a pipe dream from an action movie, but in his andoid body, it became something he could pull off without problems.
The next moment thick stream of water crushed into the place he had just left and drilled a hole in the place in an instant, creating a huge wave of mud that crashed into him. Krogar's eyes widened as he tried to stabilize himself while being pulled by the stream.
"What is that thing doing here? And what pressure is this?" Sliding at high speed, he managed to kick a nearby tree and jump out of the stream. Looking at the place belov the mysterious gate, there was a huge pit already, filled with water that kept overflowing in all directions.
"Looks like it is spewing water from the bottom of some ocean or something, hardly a portal someone opened deliberately." Lucy said in his head. "No loss, the books were useless anyway."
"Let's get out of here." Krogar walked away through the forest, water splashing at his feet. "The people in the town will be hapy, a free bath."
It was not to the point it would endanger lives, but the town would certainly have some problems with the sudden source of water, it was enough to form a small river.
"I do not know where we are going, but it will be better than here. This place sucks, the Well is of a bad type, all their technology will probbaly omit using machines." Soon, they outpaced the water and were walking in the regular forest again.
"Do you hear it?" After a considerable time, Lucy asked, hearing the sound of a galloping horse. "Eh, do not even answer, we hear the same things after all."
"Yeah a horse, and it looks like it has no rider, we can take a ride." Krogar said and hid behind the tree, waiting for the sounds to grow louder.
"Got you!" Krogar cried out, landing on the horse's back, holding him firmly with his legs.
"No!" The horse shouted.
"No!" Krogar shouted, looking at the horn growing out of the horse's forehead and remembering something.
"Get down moron, you are so heavy!" The unicorn neighed.
"Ride on, perverted horse, no complaints or . ." Krogar put his hand on the unicorn's horn and slided the hand several times up and down slowly.
The unicorn neighed even louder and pulled back it head, trying to stab Krogar with the horn, as the result, Krogar's hand slided to the base of its horn abruptly.
"Oh, so this was your preference." Krogar mumbled, dodging the attack with ease.
"I do not know who you are, but you are dead!" Krogar would swear the unicorn's cheeks were turning red.
"Easy, easy, we can build a mutually advantageous relationship right?".
"Let go of my horn." The unicorn said through its teeth angrily, flashing its eyes at Krogar dangerously.
"Of course, of course, it is your precious thing right. I can protect you in return." Krogar smiled at the unicorn.
"Then do it instead of talking.." The unicorn turned his head and nodded in the directon of the sound of nearing horses.
"I will, do they use magic?" Krogar asked, not loosing precious time.
"No." The unicorn run and turned more restless after a while, when three riders emerged not far away from behind a group of trees.

"Pche." Krogar jumped two meters into the air and performed a swift spinning kick at high speed, sending a thick branch flying in the direction of the riders, who were knocked off their horses resembling little children being toyed with an adult. Krogar lightly landed at the back of the unicorn, crouching.
"Wow, I-I think the protection idea is not that bad. What is your name?" The unicorn stuttered in surprise.
"K. .Lucy." Krogar breathed out, correcting himself in the last second."You?"
"My name is. . ehm.. just call me unicorn. . . hey! You have some guts." Krogar straightened his legs a bit, riding the unicorn while almost fully standing in an upright position, a feat hardly possible for ordinary humans.
"Enough fun, tell me about the lands around. Do you know it around here?" Krogar sat down again.
"A bit, I want to go away, somewhere my . . ehm, where I have less value and the place will be safer for me to roam about. The path through the forest will take a while, but behind it is a country using a different kind of Mana Well. Much safer for me."
Krogar's eyes sparkled with interest.
"Lead the way, my brave steed!"
They raced through the forest, bursting out of leaves and jumping across rivulets that were flowing down the hillside of the forest, while Krogar's white hair swirled in the wind behind him, his red eyes gazing to the front.
"I am quite the chick ain't I?" Krogar giggled softly.
"You can even change your appearance as you like as long as colors and textures are involved, to change your frame is not possible though." Lucy added.
"As if I will need it, such a lovely lady as myself .. !" Krogar continued, while Lucy would have facepalmed if she could. She had an urge to change his hair to pink, but held herself back in the end.
"Eh, I see everyone has issues." The unicorn said to himself with a smile.
"W-what have you said just now?" Krogar realized he was speaking for himself.
"I have said that our paths split here, I am going further into the mountains above. You probably want to go somewhere not that distanced from civilization."
"Probably not, it was a fine ride, just a simple question before we go. . ." The unicorn snorted loudly, interrupting Krogar for a second.
" Tell me something about the place down the valley, basic info is enough."
"I do not know much myself, only what I have heard from hearsay. The population should be less numerous than in Lancaria that is a populous contry focused on farming. These people are more into crafting and mining. They quite supplement each other, which is probably the reason they got along without any mojar conflicts." The unicorn stopped speaking.
"Faragor should be the name." He added after a second of thinking.
"Mm, thanks." Krogar jumped off the unicorn and wanted to slap it on its butt like the people in westerns do, but the unicorn dodged swiftly and run away in a wide circle around him, leaving the surprised Krogar rooted in place.
"Whatever, but he is quite fast, we have covered a lot of ground and it is not even night yet." Krogar began to run in the direction the unicorn recommended with a spring in his steps. The valley was a rocky one, with the greenery slowly changing into cliffs and crevices in an unfamiliar kind of stone and other minerals.
"Will it be a school again?" Lucy asked while they were runing down the hillside towards a mediocre-looking town in the distance.

"This time, you will be the one choosing the place." Krogar frowned, remebering the extremely helpful books he had snatched fromt the school.
"Wait, isn't it another one of those gates?" Lucy asked Krogar who looked at the horizont and saw a familiar circular shape.
"Not another one, my underwear is still wet from the last time." Krogar paused his run and shifted his weight from one leg to the other and back.
"Being wet would be fine, but the water was not very clean. You are dressed like a homeless person." Lucy's remark stabbed Krogar's heart.
"Quit bickering, my dear copied soulless jumble of electrons, there seems to be some people there." Krogar focused his eyes in the direction of the gate.
A huge-framed man near the gate was holding another, much smaller one in the air by his throat in one hand and kept shaking him vigorously. As Krogar run closer to him, he began to see more details, slowing his pace until he stopped completely.
Despite his good sight, it was too late to remain hidden, when the giant of man turned his head and looked at him, Krogar's body shivered, elecrifying sensation going from the bottom of his spine up to the top of his head.
"Crap, he has horns! What is this?" His eyes widened.
The giant man roared and began racing towards them with many smaller ones in tow. Only now he could see the color of his skin was far from normal, the crimson color of blood.
"We have to run." Krogar said and turned his body around to bolt in the opposite direction.
"Transfer full control to operating system." Lucy said before he could move his legs. "Say it"
"What? Why?" Krogar blinked several times.
"Do it. Do not be afraid, I will not scam you." Lucy insisted.
"Hmph, transfer full control to operating system "Krogar said and watched as his hands moved up and his head looked at his palms, it was terrifying, for he was not the one doing it.
"Aaaah, nice." Lucy breathed out and turned back around to face the horde of red skinend existences who were quickly nearing them.
"What the fuck Lucy!!" Krogar shouted at Lucy, but only inside of his mind, as the body was no longer under his control. "They will tear us apart!"
He watched the horde, finally understanding the size of the leading individual.
"Krogar, do you know what I do when I am bored out of my mind inside of your head?" Lucy said calmly.
"What does that have to do with this situation?!" Krogar was freaking out.
"Combat simulations." Lucy began to walk slowly forward with a light smile on her face.
"Come Sabra, you will be mine!!" The leading individual roared and the echo spread through the valley as an avalanche.
* * * *
Archon run, fire flowing in his veins and watched the lean, but petite figure who was turned to him with her back. The moment she turned and smiled, her white hair flowing with the wind, he could not help but roar, seeing the person he had not expected to, slowly walking to him.
"Come Sabra, you will be mine!!" His arm muscles tense, he took the axe stripped at his waist and threw it aside, as it would not be needed. "There will be other weapons I will need for this unexpected meeting."
"Stay back, she is mine!" When only about fifty meters of space were separating them, Archon extended his hand and and cursed right afterwards."Damit! So this is how it is."
He would appatently be unable to utilize the demon magic of his world in his fight, while he was oblivious to the magic in this world. There were surely some principles that he could use, but there was no time to experiment with them.
"A good old brawl it is." He grinned and prepared to grab his opponent with his right hand when she was only ten meters apart.
* * * *
"If he rapes us, I will kill myself." Krogar said in his head sulking.
"Permission denied." Lucy chuckled, closely following the movements of the first demon. There was no doubt about their identity any longer. It was not that hard to identify them, because one of Krogar's previous identities was a demon too.
"Strength will be high, speed of movement and reflexes unknown." Lucy engaged in a machine-like thinking, partially because she had pretended to be a machine for too long and some of the habits had come to be deeply rooted in her psyche. Not that she hated it, as it tended to bring efficient aproaches to solving problems.
At the distance of ten meters, she moved her foot aside, kicking a small rock straight in the direction of the demon's eye. The demon cocked his head slightly, making the piece of rock only graze his head.
"Either mediocre reflexes, or superior reflexes with good combat experience." Dodging in the last second could be both an inability, or an advanced fighting technique.
Both of them made two steps in that time, leaving only the distance of five meters in between. As the demon's hand was nearing Lucy, she decided to meet it with her own right hand.
She tried to catch her opponent wrist, but he retracted his hand and caught her wrist with his left. She immidiately kicked his ribs with full force, her right leg passing under his hand like a shadow.
Unpleasant sound of cracking ribs could be heard, but her opponent managed to catch her leg in his right hand that dodged her first move. Holding her hand and leg, the demon quickly backed off a large step and turned his hips, intending to slam her back against the ground.
She reacted by going with his force, jumping forward with her free leg extended to land a kick, hitting his retreating leg that held the most of the demon's weight. Something crackled again and they both ended up side by side on the ground, but due to his more advantageous position, the demon quickly managed to pull himself atop of her and grinned, not showing any signs of pain from his injuries.
"We are finally getting somewhere." He growled.
"He is quite pain resistant, whatever." Lucy thought, while her free hand shot out towards his eye, forcing the demon to use his hand to block her, freeing her other leg. With both of her legs free, she executed a lightning fast move, as she spinned her body around and gripped his hands with her legs, using the created leverage to try breaking both of his arms.
Loud crack was heard again, when one of his elbows broke, the other withstanding the move due to its sturdiness. She tried to immediately break the other one, but the demon surprisingly moved his head to bite her with his sharp fangs and she was forced to distance herself from him.
"Who are you bitch! You are not her!" The demon stood up with difficulties, his wounds rapidly healing and the arm repairing itself at visible speed. Nonetheless, he seemed to be wary of Lucy, the strength of her android body had taken him by surprise.
"My name is Lucy and we apparently have no business with each other." She said, calmly circling around the demon to get herself into position more suitable for escape.
"A machine." The demon spat out blood on the ground.
"You look so similar." He apparently wanted something, his eyes sparkling with curiosity, but he was probbaly too cautious to turn his intentions into reality.
"You will not give me your name?" Lucy asked, not showing any signs of fear.
"Archon, which warlord owns you? Which world? How many of you are around?" He began asking questions, his unease apparent.
"Wow, so many questions. No one owns me and I am one of a kind probably."
"Lies, somebody had to construct you." Archon pressed on.
"Nah, they are not here anymore." She clicked her tongue and looked at the gate out of which a demon appeared from time to time.
"A gate?" Archon saw the direction she was looking and followed it with his glance.
"Do not tell me.. " He began to laugh bitterly. "Do not tell me you got screwed with the one-way only fucking gates and the others duped you the same as me."
"Very close." Lucy waited, wanting to get more out of the demon.
"Great, if I knew most of those things would work only in one direction." The demon sighed. "We can work together."
"Mabe another time, I have objectives of my own." Lucy finally reached the best position during her slow circling around the demon and jogged away.
The demon kept staring at her, but did not do anything, watching her as she disappeared into the distance.

8 125Solstice Anthology
A collection of short stories I've written over the past few years, the centerpiece being "Solstice" itself: On the Winter Solstice, the wind whispered. It roared and blew across the world, and reached even the Heavens above. With it, the great cold of winter flooded across that higher plane, and the gods staggered. They felt the golden dust of their divinity drift away from them, and the message of that wind became clear… This Winter will never end so that the Earth will.
8 320Dust and Glory
A century after World War III left the planet a nuclear wasteland, earth is nearly unrecognizable. Alien ‘Benefactors’ have taken control of North America’s most populous cities and built indomitable walls around them, defending their inhabitants but trapping them under a totalitarian rule. Outside these citadels, chaos reigns, led by the mutants of the wasteland; cultists, raiders, and canibal clans. Glory, a rogue android, is roaming the wastes after escaping her sadistic “father”. Alone and reeling from the effects of a previously sheltered life, her only ray of hope is Reza City, built upon the ruins of what used to be Phoenix, Arizona. True, the Benefactors have a strict ban on self-aware artificial intelligence in place, but that should only prove an issue if they realize she’s an AI. The real problem is what lurks outside the city: over a million square miles of harsh, unyielding desert. And slinking between the dunes and the fissures are the mutants, looking for an easy victim.
8 377Jack of All Trades, Master of All
Jack was reincarnated, again. This time, the omnipotent sphere had finally revealed to him that this new world was, in fact, the real one, and his soul had just returned to his body after two years of coma. During that span, the Earth or the magical world No.146, where he was The Grand Sage, was just a simulation experience. Jack inherited the System of Knowledge from his former self in the previous world. But gradually, he realized there were other Returners, holding other powerful Systems that they themself were also granted. The reason? The Omnipotent Sphere refused to give an answer. With the ever-burning desire to find his former friends and companions at World No.146 after their souls too were returned to this world, Jack began his journey. Ahead of him, five hundred years old as he technically was, there might be some surprises he still wasn’t prepared for. This is an original translated work. I’ve always wanted to challenge my writing skill and post on Royalroad a few times, but, as it turned out, I realized my own English capability still limited me. Therefore, I am currently working with a team of three, hence the name Triopals, consisting of me, the author, a translator, and an investor who really put his faith in this project. My translator and I will work together to deliver four chapters each week. Depending on the translating, editing, re-reading, checking, and re-reading-again process, the chapters will be uploaded each day or all at once. Careful as we may be, there can still be some errors at our best, so we welcome grammatical corrections, etc. We are very appreciative of your support.
