《The fight for freedom》Her Eighth Chapter

“10 or so minutes.” I said as I sat down beside Mel. By this time, almost everyone had returned to Saint Haven. The only ones left were me, Mel, a male human bowmaster called Eiden who had dark green hair, and a typical elf pretty boy face, and a dark elf Force user called Gwen with black hair and a certain part rivalling even Mel in terms of size. When I told them that I won’t return with the others, they decided to follow me.
More to convince me to return than to actually enter the pillar. They had already failed from the beginning though.
“You really want to go back?” Eiden asked as he stared at me. There was a little fear in his eyes which he failed to hide,
but there was also determination.
“She told you already, right? There is something inside the pillar, and there doesn’t even seem to be any more monsters inside.” Gwen reminded him.
When I woke up, I moved some of the extra power my Armor and Alferdo generated into Ducky and let Mel scout with it.
At the moment, it’s just flying around outside, and as she had said, there were no more monsters around.
“But how did you even make something like this? It’s so heavy and it doesn’t have wings, yet it can fly?” Gwen asked as she crouched behind Mel, who was still silently piloting Ducky.
“It’s complicated.” I said as I pulled out Alferdo’s pistols. They had already fully regenerated their mana, but there was almost no more physical ammos. From what Mel told me, while I was unconscious, he didn’t care to save any ammo, and
simply fired bullet after bullet.
Apparently, its priority when I was out was to protect me by pulling the minotaur away. He really did save me that time.
On a side note, he is in sleep mode as he lied on the ground beside my armor. Convenient. I want a sleep mode as well.
“Soon, I heard the drone’s chopper, and it quickly flew in. Mel almost dropped the tablet, while both Eiden and Gwen pulled out their weapons in panic.
The drone dropped the box gently, and then flew off before Eiden could even draw an arrow.

He then realized that it was the supply box, and put away his bow, slightly ashamed.
“Potions. Bandages. Medicine. A fresh set of clothing for me. AH. The batteries.” I pulled out a few glowing blue boxes, and walked towards Alferdo and my Armor. I attached two batteries on my armor, and another two on Alferdo, before returning to the supply crate. Mel was holding my extra set of clothes while Gwen stared at it.
“As expected, I can’t wear child’s clothes.” Gwen said, seemingly disappointed.
“Ah… that’s right…” Mel said, truly disappointed.
Both of them were touching a sensitive spot as they did that.
As I raged at both of them, Eiden calmly treated himself with the medicine and bandages, and then waited for the argument to end.
He was looking away for most of the time though. And there was traces of blood on his sleeve.
“Still nothing?” I asked as I peered towards the pit. We were inside the forest near the pit, and as precaution, Mel was still checking through Ducky.
“Clear. Let’s go~.” I got on with her staff and we flew down with Gwen following us on hers. Eiden suggested him to ride Gwen’s staff, but she adamantly rejected that idea, hence he had to run down the pit. Again.
Alferdo on the other hand, took a long path down while slowly bringing my sniper.
At this point, the bodies of the others and the monsters are starting to rot. I activated the convenient function while Eiden constantly created fresh air with his magic, as for Mel and Gwen, they were belching as they entered the cave.
And I instantly saw something I recognized.
In the side of the cave entrance, just hidden in the darkness, is a magic circle.
The magic circle isn’t important, the important thing is that the magic circle is on a card.
“Dusk!”
“This… what the hell is this?” Gwen asked as she stared at the magic circle. “Who the hell even uses this these days?”
“Maa… I have no clue? But I don’t really care~” Mel said with a bored voice, as she was still on her staff, but then her bored expression changed into an excited expression, “But if someone is here, then we can go find him~” And she rode her staff deeper into the caves.

“Her personality changes so much on that staff.” Eiden muttered. It seems that he couldn’t get used to that. Don’t worry, you have an ally here.
Gwen on the other hand simply shrugged and followed her. On foot.
“Woaaaahhh. This is a biiiiigggg rooooooomm.” Mel exclaimed as she flew around the room.
What she ignored though, was the carnage this room had received.
There were explosion marks, broken walls, and floor, and ceiling.
Look, Mel, it doesn’t matter how large a room is if it’s going to crumble like this.
But in contrary to what I thought, the room isn’t exactly going to crumble.
As I walked through the debris, I saw a few things that confirmed what I thought.
Burnt cards.
“Look at these.” I said as I held up a corner of a card. There were traces of a magic circle on it, but one could see that the card is exactly the same as the card in the entrance.
“There’s one full card here.” Eiden said, holding up a card.
“Meeee.” Mel screamed as she snatched the card. She looked at it for a while, before throwing it to Gwen, as she gave up.
“This… I reconise this. It’s a time slow spell.” She said as she read the magic circle. “How do I use this?” She waved the
card, but nothing happened.
“Are you sure it’s safe? He has some dangerous cards…” I muttered, but she ignored me and decided to channel mana into it.
Suddenly, everything went ultra-fast for about 5 seconds.
As I recovered, hugely disorientated, she stared at me with shock.
“S….strong…”
The card burnt up though. That’s a card wasted.
“That was so cool. You were like.” Mel said, and then she suddenly flew slowly and moved her arms slowly, before returning to normal, “You were like that for like 15 seconds!”
“But it was just 5 seconds?” I asked as I checked my clock.
“It was 15, you were slowed.” Eiden explained as he started thinking.
“So… strong… that’s a 67% slow rate! For 15 seconds too!” Gwen said in awe.
I stared at her, slightly shocked, “How strong is it compared to your spells?"
“We could barely do 20, and they always said that 30 was the absolute highest on human sized targets!” She exclaimed.
“That’s… a huge difference.”
A 20% slow means that the enemy would be moving at 80% speed. A 67% slow would cause the enemy to move at 33% speed. In the enemy’s viewpoint, you would be moving at 125% speed while in the 20% slow, but in the 67% slow you are basically moving at 300% speed.
In most battles I could imagine, if I get to move at 300% speed, I would be able to defeat them before the timer even runs out.
But Dusk’s attacks are weak even when compared to mine. All his tactics is to cut at the enemy’s weak spot repeatedly.
I still remember the moment where he cut the leg of the orcs repeatedly, causing them to fall victim to others.
Then I looked at the body of the lizardman, and touched some of its intact scales. It was smooth, yet hard. She saw the traces of new scales at the left ankle of the lizardman too.
“He probably cut it off, and it regenerated…” I muttered. It explained the number of burnt cards in the room and why the room is in such a state.
With his weak attacks, he could barely damage the lizardman, and to do enough damage, he had to strike the same spot over and over to destroy the scales. That’s when we heard a shout from a certain sorceress.
“Hey~ There are stairs here!” Mel shouted, and flew into the stairs downwards. Eiden followed her, as it seemed that he couldn’t find any more unused cards. Gwen followed reluctantly, she wanted to find more cards to test, but they couldn’t leave Mel alone.
“Creak” Alferdo complained as he entered the room.
“Sorry. Just follow us as fast as you can.” I told Alferdo before I followed them.
Alferdo continued complaining, but he slowly walked down the stairs with the sniper rifle.
